CHAMBER NOTES

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to some chamber music, namely a William Walton string quartet with the Hollywood String Quartet in monophonic but decent sound. I’m better about chamber music than I used to be, but it’s still not my favorite. Some of it suits me more than some, but in the end, it would be like if I wrote chamber notes, notes stripped of everything but their essence. Of course, some would say there is no essence to strip and so there’s that. No, I like to write fully packed notes, notes that are fully orchestrated, as it were. I have no idea what the HELL I’m talking about but on I go as if there were no tomorrow. Of course, there IS a tomorrow and it’s here in about four minutes and I am barely through this opening paragraph. Otherwise, I am drinking a Sparkling Ice Classic Lemonade and writing chamber notes. I did manage to watch a motion picture last night and it wasn’t too good – Pirates of Blood Island, on a Twilight Time Blu and Ray that I’d never even opened. It’s treated as if it had been a major film, but the fact is it played as a bottom half of a double bill, the top half being – The Interns. In fact, I saw The Interns at the Wiltern Theater and so I must have seen Pirates of Blood Island with it – I probably walked out on it. The transfer is very nice, however, so that’s a plut. It’s also a plus. I also attended a little cast partay for the closing of the playlets. Of course, the particular playlet that I directed closed two weeks ago, along with one other where the actors could not be replaced. They had a nice crowd for closing night. I hung out for a while but did not partake of any foodstuffs.

Yesterday was neither this nor that. I did get ten hours of very needed sleep, so that was good. Once up, I did the usual stuff – answered e-mails, did a few things on the computer, and then went and once again got an In-N-Out cheeseburger and animal fries. It’s fast and easy and cheap, but I really wasn’t in the mood for anything. It was good, though, but now I’m done with that for a while. Then I watched the movie, then discovered there was a damn fly in the house. I missed it by a millisecond, in terms of smashing the life out of it. It was buzzing around for a few minutes, and I have not seen it since. I closed all the doors so it would have to stay in the main part of the house. And all these hours later, I still have seen not a trace of it. Perhaps it had a heart attack because I came so close to snuffing it out, or perhaps it did get into one of the closed off rooms and I just couldn’t find it, although I looked very carefully before closing the door. It is a fly mystery, that is for sure.

Then I shaved and showered and went to the partay. On the way home, I stopped at McDonald’s and got a Filet-O-Fish to go, came home, and ate it. I’m thinking that I can’t do McDonald’s anymore. The idea of it is fine – the reality of it isn’t. Then I began listening to music and the rest you know. The Walton string quartet is lovely and on its final movement, which is more than I can say for these here notes.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, but the big job o’ the day will be writing the commentary. I’ve got a decent show order now (this show is in two acts), so once I’ve done the commentary, then that’s out of the way, which will be a good thing. I’ll eat something fun – perhaps I’ll go sit in a restaurant and eat – I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, and then, at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is getting the cabaret thing ready, but also choosing the songs for our anniversary show. I have to have that done by the weekend. Wednesday, we have our long rehearsal for the Group Rep cabaret, and then there are some meetings and meals, getting some revisions done for Nothing in Common, then we have our stumble-through/tech on Sunday night, then we do the show on Monday and Tuesday evenings. Here’s the little postcard Doug did for the show.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora or the Texas Two-Step, for today is the birthday of the one and only vixmom. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to the one and only vixmom. On the count of three: One, two, three: A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO THE ONE AND ONLY VIXMOM!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, write commentary, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What fast food can you tolerate and even enjoy, and which can you not abide at all? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, having written our first chamber notes. Fully orchestrated notes will return tomorrow.
