THE SURPRISINGLY SMOOTH STUMBLE-THROUGH

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had us a surprisingly smooth stumble-through of the Group Rep cabaret benefit last night. I wasn’t sure about how it would play, but everyone did well and the structure and show order worked perfectly. We had one of our mystery guests there and we got to hear that number, so that was fun. The songs really all work together as a whole. Of course, we didn’t have sound set up, so it was, in fact, like doing the Kritzerland stumble-through in my living room. We ran straight through, took a ten for the intermission, and then straight through the second act. Some lyric fumfers, a few misjudged musical entrances, but really minor stuff. After it was done, I went through each number and gave notes one-on-one and frankly that didn’t take very long. The sound guy arrived a little early, so that was good, and he and others got everything set up and then we were able to get our blends and balances done with the people who stayed to get a chance to work with the mics. I gather there aren’t many reservations, which is a real shame. But that’s people for you. I’ll make one big follow-up post tonight on Facebook and perhaps send out a little eBlast. Then all we can do is hope for the best and expect the best. Other than that, I’m now listening to the last of the Bernstein discs, which is Bernstein and the Juilliard Quartet doing Schumann and Mozart – very nice disc. I did listen to a couple of the piano/vocal discs but they’re simply not for me. I’m tired, certainly, since I as at the Group Rep from around six-fifteen to ten-thirty. And outdoors, which I don’t love, not for that amount of time or even thyme.

Yesterday was a fairly short day. I got nine-and-a-half hours of needed sleep, got up, answered e-mails, had some telephonic conversations, had a Chinese chicken salad from Stanley’s thanks to a 50% off coupon from Door Dash – that was really excellent – then I relaxed and rested my voice, then shaved and showered and moseyed on over to the theater. The rest you know.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll go over my commentary to see if any finessing is necessary, I’ll print out the commentary, relax and rest my voice, have a little nosh to hold me until after the show – maybe just a small sandwich or something like that – and then I’ll mosey on over to the theater around six. The cast arrives at six-thirty for sound check. And then we do our show at eight. I’m thinking maybe some of us will grab a bite after the show, so I can have a proper meal. I will, of course, have a full report for you.

Tomorrow will be exactly the same and then we do our show. Then come Wednesday, it’s all Kritzerland anniversary show stuff – final casting, song choosing, getting everyone their music, and getting it all announced and tickets on sale. There’ll also be meetings and meals, maybe a visit to storage, and then I also want to go in the garage and start making a box of trade stuff for CD Trader – CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays. Lots of good stuff out there and why should I just be sitting on it? Not sure what the weekend holds, although there are a couple of shows I might have to attend. We shall see.

Let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the ham chunks and cheese slices, let’s all dance the Hora or the Monkey, for today is the birthday of our very own dear reader, TCB. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to our very own dear reader, TCB. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OUR VERY OWN DEAR READER, TCB!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, go over my commentary and print it out, have a little nosh, have a sound check and then do our show, followed by some kind of meal, whether with other folks or solo. Today’s topic of discussion: What new shows on the various things like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Apple – all that crazy stuff – do you really like and recommend. And which do you not like? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a surprisingly smooth stumble-through.
