SEPTEMBER, WE HARDLY KNEW YE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, this month has flown by, like a gazelle singing the Dvorak Requiem in the key of E. And isn’t it amusing that I’m listening to that exact piece whilst typing these here notes? Writing Requiems seems to always bring out the best in composers – so many great ones and the Dvorak is really excellent, although I prefer the performance I’m listening to, with Istvan Kertesz conducting to the acapella performance of the damn gazelle, who, by the way, sings everything in the key of E. In any case, this month has flown by, and tomorrow will be a new month, namely October, and it is my fervent hope and prayer that October will be a month filled with health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful. I has spoken. Other than that, I have watched no motion picture because I spent the entire evening reading Doug Haverty’s play, the rewritten version and it’s much improved, if you ask me, and it even has a new and better title. I took a few notes, just minor little things, and had one notion about the penultimate scene, so I wrote that out, too. I sent that to Doug, but we also conversed for an hour on the telephonic device. I knew it would mostly be a big ol’ nothing of a day due to the sluicing of the street and my being stuck here, but it wasn’t too bad or anything.

Yesterday, I was up at seven-fifteen after but three hours of sleep thanks to the garbage trucks arriving super early to avoid the sluicing. Then the sluicing trucks showed up so falling back asleep wasn’t in the cards. So, I got up and answered a few e-mails and such, then around nine-thirty I got back in bed and slept until about eleven-thirty – maybe I got five hours of sleep, but that was fine. Once up again, I answered more e-mails, did a few things on the computer, and then Kerry O’Malley came by and she ran some patter ideas by me and we finessed them and stuff, then she sang through one of her songs, just to figure out one section of it. Then she left and about thirty minutes later I noticed that the street barriers had come down so we could once again drive on the street. So, I moseyed on over to the mail place and picked up a couple of packages, then went to Popeye’s and got my usual two chicken breasts, came home, and ate them up with gusto and brio, not necessarily in that order. Then I did a few things that needed doing and that was that.

I then listened to a CD devoted to the music of Ingolf Dahl, which I quite enjoyed – conducted by Michael Tilson Thomas. Some very tuneful material. Then I buckled down, Winsocki and read Doug’s rewrite, took a few notes, and the rest you know so I shall not regurgitate it again.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, then I have a meeting/meal with a mom and her eleven-year-old daughter, so that will be fun. Then I’ll come home and start figuring out the cast for the Kritzerland holiday show, plus think about the casting for the reading of Doug’s play, which will be coming up soon. After all that, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow is, of course, a brand-new month I like to call October, the tenth month of the year. I have a few things that will need doing, including a two-hour rehearsal with the singer, then I’m having a belated birthday meal with belated birthday boy Marshall Harvey. After the dinner, we’ll both mosey on over to the Group Rep to see our friend Diane Linder perform in the first play of act two of London Suite. She’s on all weekend. Saturday, she of the Evil Eye will be here so I’ll go have an early breakfast and then go to that used CD store, where I have some nice credit left. I may even take a few more items in to trade if I can figure out what those might be. Otherwise, I think I can relax, and I think that will prove true of Sunday, as well. Then next week is busy again with all manner of things, including more rehearsals with the singer.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, hopefully pick up packages, have a meeting/meal with a mom and daughter, start figuring out the cast for the Kritzerland show, think about the casting for Doug’s play, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, more classical music. Blu-ray, I’ll find something or I’ll watch something on Amazon Prime. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, whilst we say, “September, we hardly knew ye” to September as we get to know a brand-new month, namely October.
