AN UNDENIABLE FACT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, here is an undeniable fact: I am feeling lethargic and logy right now as I begin these here notes. I know not why but I think I really just need to go to bed earlier and get better nights of sleep. I’d deny all of it, but it is an undeniable fact, so why bother. Otherwise, I am sitting here like so much fish, finishing up listening to the eleven symphonies of British composer, Edmund Rubbra. He’s a bit different than the pastoral boys, a bit more like Walton and Alwyn, perhaps, but I really like his music. The first two symphonies are stormy and reflect the era in which they were written. But then things calm down and by the fourth symphony, which is very beautiful, we’re in a slightly different world. I don’t listen to Rubbra that often, so I’m glad I left him in iTunes. So far, my favorites are the fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth symphonies. Still to come are nine, ten, and eleven. I like the other works I’ve heard by him – his violin concerto, which is terrific, and various symphonic pieces. I discovered him through some recordings on Lyrita – his second, third, fourth, six, seventh, and eighth symphonies, conducted by Norman Del Mar. Those are superb recordings and must-haves if you like the music. There there’s a complete set on Chandos, which you need for the other symphonies. I got the one I really needed long ago – the one with the ninth, tenth, and eleventh. I have a mono recording of the fifth with Barbirolli conducting a wonderful performance, but I’ll pick up the single Chandos disc on that one, just to have a stereo recording. I’m sure all this stuff is on the Tube of You, should it be of interest to you. I’d start with the fourth symphony and work back to the first, then go forward from there. Prior to that, I was lethargic and logy and also logy and lethargic, not necessarily in that order. At no time yesterday, did it seem like Friday – it seemed like Thursday and yet it was Friday. You see the problem, I’m sure, as it is an undeniable fact that yesterday was Friday not Thursday. I didn’t feel like watching a movie last night, so instead I turned on the Firestick and went to YouTube and watched those driving around old LA videos I posted. They look pretty good on the big screen and however they do those conversions to sixty frames per second, the result is quite lifelike and like you’re actually there. I also went to my saved videos and watched some dance stuff I enjoy. Some stuff I was sure I’d saved isn’t there, so that’s weirdly weird. And even whilst sitting on my couch like so much fish, I was still lethargic and logy and that’s an undeniable fact, if you must know.

Yesterday was a day in which I was mostly lethargic and logy, and we can make it an “L” triumvirate by throwing is lazy. I did get a bit over eight hours of sleep, so that was good. Once up, it was the usual – answering e-mails, a telephonic call, doing some work on the computer, picking up no packages, and then ordering a Chinese chicken salad from Stanley’s – haven’t had one in a while. I almost ordered through Uber Eats but the discount code they sent didn’t work. So, it was ten bucks cheaper to drive the few blocks and pick it up, which I did.

I came right home and ate it all up and it was very good. I had some of their good bread with it. Then I did more stuff on the computer, mostly to do with getting the licensor everything they’re asking for A Carol Christmas. Every time we think they’re through, there’s something else. I’m hoping by Monday or Tuesday they’ll have it all so they can have it go live and get into their catalogue. Then I had my viewing and then I had my Rubbra listening party, and now I am writing these here notes, which, by the way, is an undeniable fact.

Today is Saturday – this I know for sure. I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, which hopefully won’t be much, I hope I’ll be past this lethargic and logy horse pucky, with my proper BK energy level back. I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll eat something, but mostly I’ll have a ME day and if I have my good BK energy, perhaps I’ll recreate the Dance at the Gym in my living room. Then, of course, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow is not a day off. First there’s a two-to-three-hour rehearsal with the singer. Then I can relax for an hour or so, and then it’s the going away partay for pregnant Hartley Powers and her ever lovin’ Bill, who are moving to Florida. They’re happy about it, which is all that matters. But some of us are less than thrilled because not only will we miss her, we won’t get to be Uncle BK. Then this week is full of busy with meetings and meals, rehearsals with the singer, and a lot of going and doing and doing and going. I keep saying I should write it all down and put it in iCalendar, and then I don’t and then I forget everything. Especially when I’m lethargic and logy.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, eat, hopefully pick up packages, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: If you could just get on a plane and go anywhere in the world, where would you go and what would you do? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, which, by the way, is an undeniable fact.
