ACHY BREAKY ME

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, a little achy breaky from the booster, not just the arm that got the shot, but just in general. I was hoping for no side effects, as I had none but the sore arm last time, but whatever it is I’m feeling isn’t bad or anything, just a little logy and achy, not necessarily in that order. Hopefully, those little things will pass by today. Otherwise, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Mr. Rodzinsky conduct a Saint-Saens piano concerto – I really like the Saint-Saens piano concertos. Prior to that, I watched the rest of the wretched Still of the Night. The first thirty minutes were terrible, and the final two-thirds were worse. I guess they think by throwing in a few Hitchcock references that that makes the film Hitchcockian. It doesn’t. Not in any way, shape, or form. It’s dreadfully directed and horribly acted save for Jessica Tandy, who isn’t really given anything to do. Meryl Streep is trying to do something but I have no idea what it might be. Roy Scheider is about the least-likely Hitchcockian hero imaginable. The almost non-existent musical score by John Kander is not an actual score – it’s a song without lyrics. I’d guess that 95% of the film has no music at all and therefore it is not Hitchcockian. The supporting case is amateurish and terrible. The villain may as well have been anyone since we know not a thing about this person. And Mr. Benton, to at least get a jolt, scares by having a loud noise suddenly blare at you, something Mr. Hitchcock never did. It’s a complete disaster. After that one, as a cleanser, I watched a PBS American Masters thing about Bing Crosby, and that was interesting, at least what I saw of it, as I kept dozing off. And here I sit, thinking of quantum physics for no reason I can discern. Well, not quantum physics, but the WORDS quantum physics. They just popped into my head, out of both the blue and the green. I think maybe I’ll take a Tylenol. Or should I take an IB Profane? I don’t know the difference, really. Having now looked up the difference, I think I’ll try an IB Profane. I took Tylenol earlier and it didn’t really do anything. There, I have taken two count them two pills. And I don’t care who knows it.

Yesterday was the kind of day I needed in certain ways. I got nine hours of good sleep, got up, answered e-mails, and then just relaxed, had some telephonic conversations, and did a few things on the computer. I went to Gelson’s and got tuna, an onion, some Sparkling Ice drinks, and a couple of muffin tops – chocolate chip and bran. I came home, made the tuna and had two count them two tuna sandwiches on two onion bagels. They were good. I had one of the muffin tops and saved the other one for a later snack. Then I finished Still of the Night and watched the Bing Crosby thing.

I ate the second muffin top, did a little writing on the project David Wechter and I are working on, and that was pretty much it. I also was happy that the booster information got sorted out and is now on the CVS site and the government site. In fact, I downloaded the bar code again because it now lists all three shots.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll do a little garage searching, then a brief Zoom thing with David Wechter, then Marshall Harvey will pick me up and we’ll go dine at Genghis Cohen, then go see Miyazaki’s Spirited Away in a brand new 35mm subtitled print. I’ve only seen that one once so I’m sure that will be enjoyably enjoyable.

Tomorrow, I’ll sleep in as much as I can, and then we have a three-hour rehearsal, albeit without our leading lady. After that, I’ll come right home to watch, listen, and relax. Sunday is another three-hour rehearsal, this one with the full cast and it’s the most important of them, so hopefully we’ll get done what we need to get done, as our piano player will be there and we have to add him into the mix. On Monday, we’ll convene at the theater about two hours before the show so we can run as much as possible before we do it. Then the rest of the week is devoted to the Kritzerland show and getting everyone their music.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, do some garage searching, have a brief Zoom, then sup at Genghis Cohen and then see Spirited Away. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, nothing until I figure out the USB problems. Blu-ray, I suppose I’ll get back to the Bonds. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping the achy breaky me will feel back to rights sooner than later.
