THE PERSON WHO DID NOT TAKE HIS OWN ADVICE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am, once again, a person who did not take his own advice. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, am once again a person who did not take his own advice. My advice to my very own self was that I should not eat any more cherry pie. And yet, one hour ago, I ate more cherry pie and now I am paying the price ($5.98) and am feeling rather gross. Don’t you think one should one’s own advice so they don’t have to pay the price and that they shouldn’t think twice about having that slice? Other than that, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening once again to the marvelous score to the ballet The Cellist. I tried to license it for CD, but they didn’t want to, feeling the Blu-ray was good enough – I disagreed, but such are the way of things, and the way of things are such. I did not watch Annie Live but instead watched BK Live – that is, after watching a motion picture on Blu and Ray entitled The Incredible Shrinking Man, the story of an incredible shrinking man. I saw it when it came out and quite enjoyed it and it did have two very frightening sequences for my nine-year-old self – one was an encounter with a cat who apparently didn’t like shrunken humans, and the other with a nasty old spider who meets a nasty old demise. I’ve always liked the leading shrunken man, Grant Williams and am quite surprised he never really had much of a career. His biggest credit after this film was as a regular in Hawaiian Eye. He died very young at fifty-three of peritonitis. This cherry pie feeling is most unpleasant, I must say and have said. I’ve said and you’ve read. I think it’s going to take several Pepcids to combat this feeling. In any case, I enjoyed The Incredible Shrinking Man, which moves right along and runs a mere eighty-one minutes. The film was a nice moneymaker back in the day and is now considered a classic. I watched some of the extras and will watch the rest of them at some point.

Yesterday was a long day’s journey into night. I was up at nine, then the fellow arrived with a hard drive containing the Creature video files, so I got them onto my back-up drive and that really only took about eight minutes for both versions of the film. He left, and then I got ready and moseyed on over to the storage place, first stopping to put gas in the motor car at the cheapest price I could find ($4.79). Our very own Donald Feltham met me at storage, and we located what we needed to locate – one of the titles I was told wasn’t anywhere, was, in fact, somewhere – all 200 of ‘em. But we apparently are out of the second pressing of Carrie, so we took that buy now sign off. We were there for about twenty minutes. Then I went to the mail place and picked up a package from Wednesday, then went to Fed Ex and got the hard drive on its merry way, then came home. I caught up on emails and other things and then it was time to meet with Robert Yacko for our weekly meal – at Vitello’s again. This time, I had the spaghetti and meatballs, a side Caesar and some garlic bread – the latter, which used to be great, isn’t great any longer. The main course was pretty good, and I do enjoy their little Caesar. We had lots of fun conversation. Then I came home.

I went searching for something that was in the bookroom for over a year but seems not to be there now, which means I moved it to the garage – now I have to find it and figure out which box I put it in. There are only a handful of possibilities, so hopefully it won’t take too long to find it. Then I watched the movie and the rest you know.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll write the commentary, which I never had a chance to do yesterday, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, and then I have a little afternoon meeting at some jernt where I can have a little sandwich for food. Then I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I have a Zoom thing with David Wechter, after which I’ll finish up the commentary and then I’m seeing the opening of a new show at the Group Rep, after which I’ll probably grab a bite to eat somewhere nearby. Sunday is up in the air right now in terms of what I’m doing – I just don’t think I want to chance that drive to the DGA and then stand around in a mask for ninety minutes or more and then be masked for an over two-and-a-half-hour movie. We shall see. Monday is our first rehearsal for the Kritzerland holiday show, so I’m looking forward to that, we have our second rehearsal on Thursday, our stumble-through on Saturday, and then we do sound check and show on Sunday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, write commentary, hopefully pick up some packages, have an afternoon meeting/meal, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, nothing at the moment. Blu-ray, another four Studio Ghibli movies, but on DVD whatever DGA screeners may arrive. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall ponder why I’m the person who did not take his own advice.
