THE WANING DAYS OF 2021

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we are in the waning days of 2021. We are also in the raining days of 2021 and as you know when it wanes it pours and when it pours it wanes and the pouring waned today, but it was still chilly out. Did you know what in Spain the wane stays mainly on the plane until the plane takes off? Did you know that the reign of the rain was brief? What the HELL am I talking about? Otherwise, I’m listening to Andre Previn do Vaughan Williams’ marvelous Sinfonia Antartica, a chilly symphony in fantastic RCA stereophonic sound. It turns out that I’d never loaded any of the Vaughan Williams CDs into then-iTunes – I listened but did not load and now I am paying the price for that folly ($2.54). I now have to load these into the CD drive connected to the laptop, then put all the tracks onto a thumb drive, then get them onto the big boy computer into Music. It is a most annoying process that is most annoying, and I don’t care who knows it. I have four CDs to go. Prior to that, I watched the first fifty-four minutes of a DGA screener entitled King Richard – it’s enjoyable, certainly, but at two and a half hours I’m not sure I’ll still think it’s enjoyable when I reach the end. It’s like there’s no one at these Amazon or Hulu or Netflix places to tell the filmmakers their films are overstaying their welcome. I’ll finish it at some point. Will Smith is completely unrecognizable but then so am I.

Yesterday was a productive day and a busy one, basically me trying to clear my plate of everything so I can have at least four completely ME days before entering the New Year. I got all the tracks ready for the new Kritzerland releases and got those where they needed to go. I finished the last bit of my sequences and then read David Wechter’s newest. I used my second coupon and got food from the California Chicken Café – one breast/wing and a small thing of chicken pasta salad – the latter was fine, but the former was kind of gross and their usually great barbecue sauce was a watery mess. Disappointing. Then I picked up a package and came right back home.

Then it was time to Zoom with David Wechter, we went over our new sequences, and talked through what each of us are writing next. The script is already way too long and we’re just getting to the third act. But I think the plot is good and it’s got some already-memorable moments. After that, I had a few chips with onion dip, but was feeling kind of nauseous from the chicken, which I still kind of am.

Then I got all the music for the January show to our musical director, so that’s done. It really was just a non-stop day of doing. Then I watched the first part of King Richard, then began uploading the Vaughan Williams CDs, which is still ongoing as I write these here notes. Meanwhile, these notes are certainly waning.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, which will hopefully be nothing, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages and perhaps some important envelopes, I’ll eat, maybe do a bit of writing, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I have a belated birthday early dinner with Robert Yacko, celebrating his birthday and Christmas. Friday is, of course, our Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Bash right here at haineshisway.com and I’m looking forward to that. Saturday is New Year’s Day and that means I begin my new novel and I’ll try to write ten or fifteen pages. Then it’s become a small custom to have three or four people over in the afternoon for some food – perhaps some Wacky Noodles will be in order.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, hopefully pick up some packages and perhaps some important envelopes, eat, do a bit of writing, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, as the days continue to wane in this year of 2021.
