THE EFFUSIVE MUSE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we got the second Muse Margaret call, and it was every bit as wonderful as the first. She just loved it, loved the ending, and hearing her be so effusive was so good for my soul right now. She had one teeny-tiny note that involved nuking four words, and she wanted to know what kind of car one of the characters drove. So, I spent some time finding one I thought was perfect, e-mailed it to her, and she agreed, so I added that little sentence and that was that. Now I print out a copy for me to proof so that I can then get that to the proofers. Someone asked me if this was a record, finishing in fifteen days and the answer is no – both memoirs were completed in less than two weeks, mostly because I wrote both in a white heat, doing twenty to twenty-five pages a day. The average for this one was fifteen pages a day. Otherwise, this evening has been quiet with nary a creature stirring, not even a mouse. I did watch a motion picture on Amazon Prime entitled Catching the Black Widow, a true story from New Zealand. It wasn’t very good, and I didn’t realize how extreme the New Zealand accent is, which made it very hard to understand what anyone was actually saying. It took me ten minutes to realize that they kept saying bedtime table because they pronounce it beeeedtime table. Anyway, it was badly directed and not so well written, but the story was interesting enough to hold my interest for its ninety-five slow minutes.

Yesterday was a day in which I got nine hours of needed sleep, but I’m very nervous that the damage done by sleeping five hours or less most of last week is done. Send excellent vibes and xylophones, please, because I really don’t need this to turn into a cold, which is the danger. I’m okay now, just a slightly weak voice, and I’m taking all my preventables often. It doesn’t help, of course, that my allergies are also happening. Once up, I answered e-mails, and then began futzing and finessing. I’d decided to do the major futzing and finessing before going to bed, so I got the last ten pages done and so much better, and finally got the very end of the book to where I liked it. The other futzing and finessing was mostly smoothing things out, a few additions, a few subtractions, and that was it. I made a PDF and sent it off to Muse Margaret and I let her know it was on its merry way.

I then decided to order in a celebratory meal – Stanley’s grilled chicken pasta with broccoli, red onions, and cashews. It arrived about twenty-five minutes later and was excellent. Then I did a few bits of catching up on things I’ve neglected, watched the movie, had the call from Muse Margaret and made those two teeny-tiny adjustments, then I printed out the new pages for myself, as I always do, so that I have them on the computer table.

After that, I buckled down, Winsocki, and got two-thirds of the Kritzerland commentary done. Thankfully, we’ve done several numbers before, so I just cut and paste that from other show commentaries when I can find them. Spotlight on this Mac is hopeless. No matter how I search it doesn’t find it. Then I’ll find it by going through each saved commentary and there it is and every word I searched by is plain as day. Spotlight used to be much better. That took most of the rest of the evening. And now, I am listening to Howard Shore’s score to the movie Panic Room. Like most of his scores, it’s very moody.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, but no later than noon o’clock. I’ll shave and shower and then our Kritzerland rehearsal begins at 3:00. I’m not sure if I’ll eat before or after – we’ll see how I feel. The rehearsal lasts until around seven, and then if I haven’t eaten, I will, and then I can watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow I’m lunching with Sami and her mom, Wednesday is a dinner meeting for L.A. Now and Then, Thursday is the second Kritzerland rehearsal, Friday I think I’m going to see the Cindy Williams show, Saturday is our stumble-through, and then Sunday is sound check and show. And all during the week, I’ll be catching up on writing for the project with David Wechter, and I have three sets of liner notes to write.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, shave and shower, have a rehearsal, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite true crime movies and books? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, very happy that Muse Margaret was so effusive about all the new pages and rest of the book.
