BINGE WATCHING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I do believe I’ve been doing something called binge watching. It’s a curious thing, binge watching, but once you start watching a limited series that interests you, you are bingeing whether you like it or not. And so, after I post these here notes I will finish the final two of the eight episodes of Unbelievable, a true story based on a true story that was true. I haven’t read up on how much of this is fiction because I don’t want to know the outcome. It’s about a serial rapist and the attempts to catch him. As always with these things, eight episodes is about two too many – but they love stringing everyone along, even if it means you get endless talking scenes that aren’t actually about the crime or its perpetrator, but personal character stuff that wears thin and you ultimately want to hurl your shoe at the TV screen and say, “Get on with it.” The acting in this one is tops – Toni Collette, Merritt Wever, and Kaitlyn Dever. There’s not too much annoying direction, so that’s a plus. Anyway, I’m enjoying it.

Yesterday was a Monday, which is about as much as I can say about it. I got eight hours of sleep, got up, answered a slew of e-mails, shaved and showered, and then a potential LA Now and Then actor arrived and sang for me. I can’t say I’ve had any interaction with him prior to this, but he’s been around for a long time, and I’ve seen him do quite a few shows. He hasn’t been singing for a while but can probably get himself back into shape. He’ll come on Wednesday to read and then we’ll see what’s what. After that, I had several long telephonic conversations, did some work on the computer, ascertained that there was no mail to pick up, and made two tuna sandwiches on onion rolls for food. After all that, I finally sat on my couch like so much fish.

In between episodes, I did stuff on the computer, had some potato chips, a muffin top left over from the day before, and that was basically the evening until it was time to write these here notes, which, in case you haven’t noticed, is what I’ve been doing before getting back to the final two episodes of Unbelievable. See what I mean about it being a Monday with nothing much to say about it – or perhaps a better way of putting it is to say a mundane Monday. Given that, perhaps a terrific Tuesday is in order.  Wouldn’t that be nice?

Today will hopefully be a terrific Tuesday or, at the very least, a tolerable Tuesday. I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll write, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll eat something light but amusing, I’ll do more writing (I want to finish at least two of the three sequences that are on my plate), and then at some point I can watch, listen, and relax, although I’ll need a break from binge watching.

Tomorrow, we have a meet-and-greet and then we learn the group numbers for LA Now and Then, and if there’s time left over we’ll move on to solo numbers. Mostly, I want to listen to voices so I can figure out who is doing which track in the show. I’m excited to begin. Thursday is a choreography rehearsal, Friday is nothing at the moment, except maybe a meal, Saturday is another choreography rehearsal and then if there’s time left I can stage the few numbers that I did.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, hopefully have a terrific and/or tolerable Tuesday, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, write, hopefully pick up packages, eat, write, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Which shows have you binge watched? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, almost done binge watching Unbelievable, which is kind of, I don’t know – unbelievable.
