CHANGING THE ANGLE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, taking a break from watching the Flix of Net limited series (whatever that means) called Inventing Anna, based on – what else – real life events but using the now hoary tagline of something like everything is true except the stuff that isn’t. That’s only been used a hundred times already. I’m three episodes in of the nine total and it’s a slog due to horrible “hip” direction, a smart-assy script, and way too much padding and an inability to understand WHAT story they’re telling. They didn’t need the fiction part because the story of Anna Sorokin is fascinating enough on its own. I do like the actress who plays Anna – Julia Garner, who I’ve never seen before – but the other actors aren’t really doing much for me, but a lot of that is the writing and directing. I’ll stick with it, I suppose. Prior to that, I finished watching the four episodes of Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich. It looks and feels and smells like every Netflix documentary – they must have some template – either that or the directors just copy each other. But it’s a horrible story and a shocking portrayal not only of Epstein and his cronies, but of a failed justice system. It’s not what you’d call an enjoyable watch, but it’s an important film.

Yesterday was an entirely frustrating day from start to finish. I did get over eight hours of sleep but really wanted more – but thanks to the idiots across the street, there was a big cement truck there at nine, churning away noisily, so there was no choice but to get up. I do hope they’re through with whatever they were doing. Then I pulled the car out of the garage and made several attempts at getting the car buttons to accept the garage door opener signal. I had the YouTube video up and I kept running back and forth. I finally had to use a ladder to get the opener unit itself to push some red button on it – once that was done, then it worked, and I can now open and close the door using the car button rather than the remote. I was very proud of myself. Then I called a Mercedes parts dealer to ask if my model had the button start but it doesn’t so one does have to use the fob key. Then I did some stuff on the computer, then decided to go for a sandwich to Art’s. Now, because I’d parked the car in the garage, it was the first time I’d backed it out and it wasn’t in the place it usually was. I remember looking at it and thinking that I’d better pull it forward and re-angle it. Then I forgot, got in the car and backed up – bad mistake. I nicked the side of the house as I was simply too close to it. I heard it, stopped, pulled forward and re-angled the car, but I was steaming mad at myself and with great trepidation I went and looked to see if I’d done a huge amount of damage. Thankfully, it sounded worse than it looked – just a few surface scratches on the bottom of the left bumper – I’m pretty sure those can be buffed out and then painted. When I bring the car back for the navigation system, they have an auto body repair on the premises so I’ll see if they can do it while I wait. But I cursed my stupidity all day long and well into the night. I will NOT ever do such a stupid thing again and I’m grateful it wasn’t worse. It’s not even that noticeable but I want it perfect the way that it was. Bad, bad BK.

I had a patty melt and fries for lunch – very good. Then I came home, did some more stuff on the computer, had some e-mail volleys, all casting related, and then I watched the Epstein thing and then the Inventing Anna thing. After the first episode, I ordered a side of mac-and-cheese from the Cheesecake Factory, alone with some vanilla cheesecake, which I ate half of, and which will hopefully not be causing me any grief.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll eat something light, then I have a Zoom with David Wechter, which will be followed by a Zoom production meeting. After that, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of that and I’m hoping to get the navigation system, although I don’t know how long it will take for them to get it in – I’m hoping by Saturday, but we’ll see.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, hopefully pick up packages, eat, Zoom with David Wechter, Zoom with production people, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Is there some subject or real event that you’d love to see a documentary about that doesn’t already have one? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, knowing that I will be watching the angle carefully each time I back the car out of the garage.
