THE SILENCE IS DEAFENING

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish and the silence is deafening, oh, yes, the silence is deafening. That is because I am not listening to music. I don’t know why this is, but it is. I was listening to music earlier and delightful music it was – Charles Munch conducting Milhaud, Poulenc, and Stravinsky, which is also the name of my accounting firm. I have watched nothing, I have done little, and by all accounts I’ve been something of a lazy loafer today, which is kind of what I needed. I could end these here notes right now and you would miss nothing. But to end these here notes right now would be most unseemly and so I shan’t. I shall keep typing until the cows come home or until I run out of words, whichever comes first, which will be the words because the damn cows have been coming home for about fifteen years now and have never arrived. Damn them, damn them all to hell.

Yesterday was a short day because I did not arise until two o’clock – I got ten hours of much needed sleep that I much needed. Once up, I answered a plethora of e-mails, got dressed, went to the mail place and picked up a package but not the second important envelope, I went to Gelson’s and got some fresh turkey from a fresh turkey they’d just made. Have you ever had a fresh turkey? I slapped the HELL out of a turkey that got fresh with me, but that’s another story for another day although I could tell it right now and at least get to the end of this damn page. Or I could the story of The Randy Vicar and the Plucked Eyebrow. What the HELL am I talking about? I really have no idea but at least I’m typing words.

I came home and made two count them two fresh turkey sandwiches on two count them two onion rolls and I ate them all up and they were quite yummilicious. Then I had a quite long telephonic conversation with our very own dear reader Jeanne that took place on the telephonic device, in this particular case said device being an iPhone. After that, I did a few things on the computer. Then I went over one chapter’s worth of corrections from a newly recruited proofer who I asked to proof because said newly recruited proofer catches the kinds of errors no one else does, including my very own self. Nothing to do with punctuation, just sloppy errors on the writer’s part that I didn’t catch or fix or where I just made a mistake in a detail. And speaking of details, let me tell you what I need, what I really need, and what I’ve needed for almost two years – a damn foot massage or, even better, a damn full massage. I’m a mass of knots and if I had some damn berries and lived on a farm, I could be Knots Berry Farm. We don’t allow groaning here at haineshisway.com. In other news, I have absolutely nothing else to say. That, however, will not stop me from saying it, whatever it is. You see, you see, this is what happens when there is deafening silence rather than the soothing sound of music. Would you rather have The Sounds of Silence or The Sound of Music? I prefer The Sound of Music because it was filmed in Todd-AO, whilst The Sounds of Silence was a mere stereophonic recording by Simon and Garfunkel. I do have a whole box of Puccini operas here, entitled Puccini Operas. But it’s such a pain to get them uploaded into the laptop, put on a flash drive, transferred over to the computer and then into Music. I should also mention that the screws are once again loose on the high-backed chair I sit on at the computer. This happens two or three times a week. And in conjunction with my very own self having a few screws loose, it’s pandemonium around these here parts, sheer pandemonium.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I will finish two sets of liner notes and get them where they need going, I’ll do prep work on L.A. Now and Then – figuring out our rehearsal schedule so that’s not all last-minute stuff to figure out. I’ll also bring in the band charts, my old script, and the master music book so I have that all handy and easy to find. I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll eat something light but fun, I’ll do banking and hope it’s not too crowded, I’ll have a Zoom thing with David Wechter, and then at some point, I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of the same, plus a Zoom thing with someone else, figuring out the next two Kritzerland releases, meetings and meals, another casting session on Saturday morning, and then perhaps a ME day on Sunday.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, finish two sets of liner notes, do prep work, do some banking, hopefully pick up packages and the second important envelope, have a Zoom thing, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Which do you prefer – to sit surrounded by silence or to listen to music or have the TV on or something? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, listening to the sounds of silence which, by the way, is deafening.
