BEEP

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here as I usually sit here, like so much fish, listening to and trying to enjoy Haydn and because of these superb performances have actually liked a couple of the symphonies I’ve heard. But enough about Haydn. There are tales to tell and tell them I shall. I’ll tell the annoying morning tale later because I know you want to hear about the tales of the day and evening. So, I arrived at the theater at two o’clock.  We did our cue-to-cue. Act one went quickly and easily. Act two, not so much, because something got screwed up somewhere and either a light was out or cues got messed up and so things were off and we had to spend thirty minutes on one number just to get it back to where it was – incredibly frustrating. Still, we finished it in two-and-a half hours and would have finished well under two without the act two issues.

Then there was a dinner break and then we did our tech run-through without stops. Act one looked good, technically, and our stage manager was calling cues and getting them right. But act two had a lot of issues, so something clearly got screwed up, so he’ll have to fix whatever that was – he can go to his saved session of the cue-to-cue and get back to what he had, at least that’s the hope. The run-through itself had very good moments, an excellent pace, and now we just have to lock in the good stuff so it’s consistent. Richard was only with us for the cue-to-cue and act one of the run-through, so we used tracks for act two.

For the dinner break, they brought in pizza and chicken nuggets. I had a tiny slice of pizza but didn’t care for it, and one nugget, which I spit out. So, I was starving when I finally got home and ordered from the Cheesecake Factory – was surprised they were still open. I got my farfalle with chicken, roasted garlic, mushrooms, and sun-dried tomatoes. It came forty minutes later and was excellent.

Yesterday did not start off well. I fell asleep around three-thirty and set the alarm for noon, so eight-and-a-half hours of sleep. But at nine-fifteen, I heard an unseemly and annoying BEEP. Two minutes later, another BEEP. And on it went. Of course, it was the smoke alarm battery. I have batteries here but not 9V batteries. So, I had to get dressed and go over to Rite-Aid and buy one. I came back, swapped it with the dead battery and then there was no more unseemly BEEP. I went back to bed and slept till noon, so, seven hours of sleep. I then got up, answered e-mails, shaved, and then it was time to mosey on over to the theater, with no time to stop at the mail place.

You know the rest, and now I am still listening to Haydn symphonies. The problem with Haydn is he wrote well over 100 symphonies. I’ve now heard about twenty of ‘em. I did get with a few of them, but they’re rather all of a piece.

Today, I’ll hopefully sleep in, and then I need a complete ME day of doing nothing but nothing, not necessarily in that order. I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll eat something fun and hopefully light, and then I’ll listen to music, watch stuff, and mostly relax so that I’m ready for the week ahead. And can you believe this month is just about done? How the HELL did that happen?

Tomorrow, I can relax during the day, then we have our sitzprobe at seven, after which I’ll run a couple of things so that the people who are now covering the material of the other actor can get comfortable. Tuesday is our final dress/tech in which the SCARY final elements come into play – the projections and sound. Wednesday is our first of two previews and we’ll really need your strongest most excellent vibes and xylophones that we make it through unscathed. Thursday is our second preview, and then we open on the first of a brand new month.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, sleep in, have a ME day, hopefully pick up packages, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping I don’t have to hear another BEEP for quite some time.
