FIRST TIME WORKING ON THE SET

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, doing something very uncharacteristic of my very own self – I’m drinking an A&W diet Root Beer. Sometimes one simply must drink a Root Beer and apparently tonight’s the night, to coin a phrase. Have you ever coined a phrase? If so, which coin did you use? When I coin a phrase I either use a quarter or two dimes and a nickel, not necessarily in that order. I have no idea what the HELL I’m talking about, but since when has THAT ever stopped me. In any case, I’m uploading some music into the Music app – a Felix Slatkin box set that I’m very excited to have and hear. I also got a Carmen Dragon box set that I’m very excited to have and hear. Slatkin first, then Dragon. How many of you dear readers know who Carmen Dragon’s son was? I do. So, what can I tell you? I could tell you who Carmen Dragon’s son is, just in case someone doesn’t know – Daryl Dragon aka The Captain of The Captain and Tennille. I’m not sure I even care for Root Beer, if you must know. I just tossed that in as an aside. Have you ever tossed an aside? Has an aside ever tossed you? We had us a very productive rehearsal last night. Since we were missing two people, there was no real way to run the show, nor did I want to run the show. No, last night was for the cast to get used to working on the set, which involves platforms of various heights and sizes and steps leading up to them. So, we ran all the group numbers, adjusted a few things as we went along, and worked out all the entrances and exits – it was something we needed to do and now it’s done. Of course, the two missing people now have to learn all that, which is the problem when people miss – you’re always going backwards rather than forwards. Watching the group stuff, I just realize how much fun this show is to watch – such energy and joy and this cast is just really talented and fun to work with. And Mr. Slatkin is still uploading.

Yesterday was mostly a fine day, save for an e-mail that’s making doing our show difficult and so I may have to make a really difficult decision upcoming shortly. I’m not going to do this show half-butt cheeked, that’s all I can say and that’s all I AM saying. I got about seven hours of sleep, answered e-mails and stuff, and then I moseyed on over to Grant’s next door and we got all the fixes entered in the new book and so that part of this is now finished and I must say it looks very good. And it only took about forty-five minutes. Then I came home and decided I should eat something. In all may years on this planet, I have never had anything from a fast food jernt that bears my initials – BK – Burger King. I’ve been getting alerts from DoorDash that they’re having a special to celebrate a new Burger King burger, which, from the description, sounded very much like a patty melt. Grilled sourdough, two patties, American cheese, grilled onions, and some kind of savory sauce. So, I decided to give it a go. I ordered the new sandwich, a fried chicken sandwich, and some onion rings. They arrived very quickly. I began with the chicken sandwich. It was so rank that I only ate less than a third of it before tossing it into the trash. The new sandwich was just weird – nothing about it really worked and the sourdough smelled, well, sour. I ate it but I didn’t care for it much at all. As to the onion rings – the worst ever from anywhere. So, I’ve now paid my Burger King penance and I shan’t be eating there ever again. I felt nauseous after eating and that feeling is still present, although I’m about to eat some chips and salsa just to get this taste out of my mouth.

I stopped at Gelson’s on the way home and got some ice cream – Drumsticks – to also get this taste out of my mouth.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll write, I’ll eat, I’ll have a rehearsal – I’m going in early to work on the big monologue with the actor who does it – then everyone arrives and I may try and run the show in its entirety, since we should have everyone there. Then I’ll go home and relax.

Tomorrow is more of the same, Friday is off, Saturday we have our long rehearsal, Sunday is off, and then we’re coming in on Monday and we’re into serious run-throughs from that point on.

Oh, and a very happy birthday to the Darling Daughter!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, write, eat, have a rehearsal, and then relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Ask BK Day, the day in which you get to ask me or any dear reader any old question you like and we get to give any old answer we like. So, let’s have loads of lovely questions and loads of lovely answers and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be done with the interior portion of the new book, and happy to have worked on the set.
