CATCHING UP

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to the last of the Mozart CDs from the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra – I don’t get into most of it, but did enjoy symphony number 40. The Last of Mozart – that was the sequel to The Last of Sheila. I’m looking forward to the other composers coming up, including Schoenberg and Respighi and Rodrigo. Otherwise, I spent the evening hours uploading more CDs and also watching a motion picture on the Flix of Net entitled Miss Sloane, starring Miss Jessica Chastain as the titular Miss Sloane, a Washington lobbyist. Nothing terribly original here, but I enjoyed it for what it is and liked the actors very much, including Mr. John Lithgow. The big reveal at the end you can see coming a mile away, but it’s all enjoyable in its way and it passed the time nicely. Otherwise, I was true to my word and did a lot of catching up, true to my word-wise.

Yesterday was a relaxing day, sorta kinda and kinda sorta. I got about seven hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, checked out the flights but haven’t booked them yet. Maybe someone can explain to me the high cost of a one-hour flight from Burbank to Las Vegas because I don’t really understand it at all. In the end, it won’t really cost me anything but still. I suppose I’ll book something today, although none of the flight times are really optimal, but I can only do what I can do. Originally, this was a one-day thing on April 12. Then they added a meet and greet fan thing on Sunday the 10, but I have to be at our matinee that day and do a talkback. So, the soonest I can get there is seven-thirty, which would probably get me to the hotel at eight, two hours late. Then, on Wednesday after the talking part, there’s some banquet but I’d have to leave that no later than seven to catch a flight home, as I don’t want to stay in Las Vegas until Wednesday morning. We’ll see how it all shakes out.

Then I went and did my banking – bank one was four minutes in and out. My bank had one teller working and a line of about eight people – ridiculous. But one of the employees said I could do a cash deposit in the ATM, so she walked me through that and it seems like it went through fine. Then I stopped at Taco Bell for food, came home, ate said food, and then forwarded the slew of orders to the helper. So, that was all good and caught me up on quite a bit. Then I finally sat on my couch like so much fish and watched Miss Sloane, a film about Miss Sloane, which you’ve already read about.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll try and get back to writing, I’ll eat, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I may try to give the motor car a bath, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of the same, plus a meeting and meal or two, and then come Friday we’re back doing the show. I have some folks coming on Friday night, so I’ll be there for that, and unless I know folks on Saturday night, I’ll probably skip that and return for the matinee and talkback, after which I’d have to scurry to the Burbank airport. I’ve pretty much decided to fly the Jet Blue partner airline JSX – very small plane, but seats can be chosen, unlike Southwest, and that’s very appealing to me. I have to find out where the JSX terminal is at Burbank Airport, although it’s probably right there in the main building.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, try and get back to writing, eat, hopefully pick up some packages, perhaps give the motor car a bath if the car wash isn’t too busy, and then I can watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What Mozart pieces are your favorites? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have done some good catching up.
