CUE THE VOMIT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to absolutely nothing, taking a break from a limited series entitled Anatomy of a Murder – sorry, Scandal – and prior to that having watched a most wretched motion picture entitled The Perfection, which got surprisingly good reviews, which is exactly everything that’s wrong with the idiots reviewing motion pictures today. That anyone with a thinking, working brain could think this film good is mind boggling, but especially critics who should know better. There isn’t a single original thought, shot, camera move, plot twist that hasn’t been done a zillion times already – it’s like these writers, if you can call them that, work from some blueprint that should be immediately thrown in the trash. I watched it because I enjoy the leading lady, Allison Williams. But let’s just cut to the chase – I stopped counting after the tenth vomit scene (all shown lovingly on camera and all predictable because the actress involved keeps her mouth closed until the vomit cue)s. Allison Williams is good, Steven Weber is, well, I don’t know what he’s doing exactly, the other leading lady gives the kind of performance that makes you want to hurl your shoe through the screen, the direction is laughably bad and the only redeemable thing is that it’s under ninety minutes. But I do love when halfway through the film they rewind the film and start over so you can see what you didn’t see the first time. That’s SUCH an original device – so original, in fact, that they do it not once, not twice, but three times and let me tell you, the third time is NOT the charge. If you love vomit and chopped off limbs this might be one you’ll enjoy. The final shot might lead you to believe the filmmakers were actually making a comedy, so ludicrous is it.

As to Anatomy of a Murder – sorry, Scandal – well, I’m just starting episode four of six. It’s okay so far – I do enjoy a good court room drama. It’s not that well written (based on a book) and it’s horribly directed, irritatingly directed, wretchedly directed by someone who makes it all about her, never a good idea. Oh, and yes, in episodes one and three we do get two fine vomit scenes because I guess in Screenwriting 101 they now say you must have a vomit scene by page ten. The actors are all fine – Sienna Miller, Michelle Dockery, Rupert Friend and others – we’ll see where it goes and how long it takes to get there.

Yesterday was another short day due to eleven wonderful hours of sleep. I do believe I’ve caught up on sleep and I really don’t want to sleep that long anymore. Once up, I answered e-mails, had some telephonic conversations, responded to some texts, ordered La Fogata for food – two tacos and a cheese quesadilla – ate that when it arrived (very good – but never need to have the quesadilla again), did a few things on the computer, never got around to going to the mail place, and then sat on my couch like so much fish and watched The Perfection. After that, I got a little Caesar salad from Hugo’s along with a little chocolate mousse for a light sweet. They arrived and I ate them, and then I began watching Anatomy of a Murder – sorry, Scandal. I got the report that we had a smallish audience, which is disappointing, but that it was a very good show, and everyone enjoyed it, so that’s good. Got to get more people for tonight and tomorrow. Frankly, I’m sick to death of my “friends” never coming to see these shows at the Group Rep. It’s really annoying and I’m really at the point where they’d better never ask me to see anything they’re involved in. More irritating still are the Facebook LA groups, you know, where every week there are five new posts about the Helms Man or Sheriff John – they love their nostalgia as long as they don’t have to get off their complacent ASSES to actually see a show that is filled with that nostalgia. If you’re on any of those groups, please post and tell them to get off their complacent ASSES and see the damn show. Damn them, damn them all to hell.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll definitely go to the mail place, I’ll eat, and then I’ll either watch, listen, and relax, or see our show – doubting the latter, though.

Tomorrow is more of the same, and then this week is all writing, getting the book to the publisher, taking pre-orders for the book, and all that kind of stuff.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, go to the mail place, eat, watch, listen, and relax or see a show. Today’s topic of discussion: What is the grossest movie you’ve ever seen and did you make it all the way through? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, hoping to never again see a movie where they have to cue the vomit.
