OLD FRIENDS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had us a pretty nice crowd tonight and a good show. I’m gonna clean up a couple of things, and then I probably won’t see any of the performances next weekend, unless I know someone attending and that they’d like to see me, and even then, I’ll probably just show up for the last ten minutes. They were a bit more vocal tonight, which is always fun, and several folks in the back rows were having a high old time. But the most amazing thing of the evening was having a nice, bearded fellow ask if I remembered him – I didn’t recognize him but then he said his name and holy moley on rye – Ira Bank, son of my parents’ best friends, Helen and Fischel Bank. I haven’t seen Ira since the early 1960s. We had fun chatting and I hoped to see him after the show but didn’t. I know he lives close by in the City of Studio, so I’ll try to find him and do a lunch. He’s a judge here in Los Angeles, California. So, that was really fun. Sami’s folks were with us, too, and brought four others with them who were really nice. I met them for dinner, but I only had a bowl of really good corn chowder – fantastic flavor. They enjoyed the show very much. And the Margolis family was there, too – including the two talented kids, Marissa and Alexa. I’m really grateful that people are coming – it’s been somewhat slim pickings for the two shows that preceded us. I’m hoping that’s because word of mouth is good. I’m told we’ll have a similar-sized crowd for the matinee, so that will be nice, should that be the case. And now, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to Stravinsky via the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. The current piece is one of his more “modern” atonal things, but it’s enjoyable in its way.

Yesterday was fine. I didn’t get much sleep, maybe four hours, due to ABS (Active Brain Syndrome), just thinking about a play I may or may not write at some point. I’ve had this idea for over twenty years but haven’t had the wherewithal to actually attempt it, since it’s a genre that I’ve never done before, although I’ve certainly done elements of the genre. But I’ve been thinking about it again recently and may just dive in, so I made some notes, and we’ll see what’s what. She of the Evil Eye arrived and I went to Uncle Bernie’s deli and had a bacon and cheese omelet and a bagel. Then I did some stuff and then came home at noon o’clock. I answered e-mails and such, then finished the limited series entitled Equinox. It began well, but the supernatural aspect of it wore very thin very quickly and I ended up not so enamored of it, although the acting was very good. Then I got ready and met the Staitmans and their friends at this Eyetalian jernt in Toluca Lake. As mentioned, I had a bowl of soup, so not all that much food for the day, so I’m about to eat a couple of small snacks that are on their merry way to me.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven, I’ll shave and shower, then I’ll mosey on over to the theater and arrive at twelve-thirty to clean up a couple of things, then we play our second matinee and afterwards we do a talkback with whoever stays. I’m so happy I don’t have to then rush to the airport to go to Las Vegas – that was the best decision I made this past week. So, after the talkback, I’ll go out for a bite to eat, then continue my quest to find someone who can take me to the airport on Tuesday morning for my flight to the Vegas of Las. I already have someone picking me up after. After food, I’ll come right home and watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow can be a lovelier than lovely ME day. I was going to take my motor car in to have a bit of touch-up paint for the bumper and a couple of other dings – I have to leave the car for two days, so that seems like the perfect way to do it, but I can’t do it unless I have a way back home. Uber is simply too much money for that distance. If I can’t find someone, then I’ll delay that visit until the following Monday. I will also get back to writing, for sure. Tuesday, I fly to Las Vegas, speak at the event, hang out for a couple of hours, then fly home. I’ll be picked up at the airport and then, since I won’t have eaten, the picker upper and I will go have a bite to eat.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, shave and shower, clean up a couple of things, do a matinee, have a talkback, eat, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them. So, let’s loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have seen someone I haven’t seen in close to sixty years.
