SPEAKING OF LAS VEGAS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to a Carl Maria von Weber clarinet concerto, in which I have yet to actually hear a clarinet. Where in tarnation is the damn clarinet – ah, there, it’s made an appearance. Well, I shan’t dwell on such things as Carl Maria von Weber and his clarinet concerto because I have some notes to write and I’m going to try to be in bed by one-thirty so I can get some sleep, which I need. Did you know, for example, that a clarinet concerto features a clarinet? I think that is important information, don’t you? Prior to listening to this clarinet concerto by Carl Maria von Weber, I did manage to watch a motion picture on the Flix of Net, yet another hideous “thriller”, this one entitled The Vanished. The fact that scripts like this are green-lit is astonishing, that horrible writing is somehow interesting to someone to then spend money on. This film is filled with every cliché in the book, including a final twist that’s been used so many times by now it should automatically be retired – and used EXACTLY as it’s used here. But prior to that twist, we’re treated to some of the oddest acting ever – you’d almost think you were watching a comedy of some kind, so preposterous is it. The all-star cast includes Thomas Jane, an actor I’ve enjoyed before, and that fine star of motion pictures, Anne Heche. I mean, where did THAT come from? Jason Patric is also in it, as is its writer/director, Peter Facinelli, who I’ve never heard of before or seen before. It’s under two hours but not by a lot, five minutes to be exact. I would have cut it down to perhaps twelve minutes. I think I counted about twelve producers. In the who cares department, the original title of the film was Hour of Lead. It was leaden, all right.

Yesterday was something or other. I had tummy problems, so I slept erratically and not long enough, maybe six hours. Very annoying. Once finally up at 12:45, I answered e-mails and did a few things on the computer. I’d pre-ordered food, which arrived at one-thirty, Jack in the Box. Two of their weird tacos and some chicken nugget things – all fine. I had some telephonic conversations, printed out stuff I need to have for today and then I watched that silly “thriller.” After that, another telephonic conversation, a late-night snack of a small Fatburger burger – just thousand island, lettuce, patty, and cheese – it was really quite good and hit the spot – I needed to have something as I won’t be eating again until almost nine-thirty tonight. I never think about Fatburger because I had one in Beverly Hills a few years ago and didn’t love it, but this one is excellent and just the right size.

Today, I’ll be up by nine-thirty, I’ll shave and shower, then our very own Donald Feltham will pick me up at ten-twenty and take me to the Burbank Airport. I’ll check in there, which is apparently very easy, and then I shall be on my way to the Vegas of Las to speak at an event. I’ll know a couple of the other speakers, so that will be fun and I can hang out with them after. Then at six-thirty, I’ll Uber back to the airport and fly home on the eight o’clock flight, arriving just after nine, where I’ll be met by our very own Robert Yacko. We’ll immediately go somewhere for a bite to eat. I will, of course, have a full report for you. Once home, I can and will relax.

Tomorrow and the rest of the week I can take it easy and hopefully catch up on sleep. Friday, we resume performances – not sure if I’ll be attending any of them – we’ll see how I feel.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by nine-thirty, shave, shower, and then Donald will pick me up and we’ll mosey on over to the Burbank Airport and hopefully arrive by eleven for the eleven-thirty flight, I’ll fly to Las Vegas, Uber to the hotel where the event is taking place, speak, hang out with friends, Uber back to the airport, then fly back to the Bank of Bur, where I’ll be picked up by Robert Yacko and we’ll have some food and then he’ll take me back to the home environment. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite fast-food burgers, fries, and onion rings? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, after which I shall be on my way to Las Vegas, where I shall speak of things.
