SPILLING THE BEANS

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here bright and early and therefore I must be up bright and early as well as early and bright. So, let’s start by saying thanks to all who’ve ordered the new book and I hope others will follow suit, but it was a pretty good day of pre-orders. Then we began our fourth week of performances with a very good show with a terrific audience of more than half a house, which I hear is really good for small theaters these days. There were a couple of mic issues – one went out, the other accidentally got turned off, but it was all fine. The show ran exactly what it always runs, two hours counting the intermission. And the treat was having our very own dear reader KevinH in the audience with two of his friends. They seemed to enjoy it, but I’ll let him post about it. After a week away, it was interesting to see it – it’s really just a feel-good, high-energy show and it moves swiftly. We had a different guitar player and trumpet player and they both did very well. Tom Griep, who’ll be subbing for Richard Allen tonight, was there watching Richard and Tom’s terrific and will do a fine job. I came right home after the show. Since I’d only eaten a chopped salad for food, I made two low-calorie hot dogs on low-calorie buns for a snack – very low in calories and did the trick, hunger-wise.

Yesterday went by quickly. I got ten hours of sleep, answered e-mails, announced the book via eBlast and Facebook, made a Facebook page for the book (like it, please – just search the title of the book and it’s the first thing that comes up), had my chopped salad from Stanley’s (can’t be more than six or seven hundred calories, tops), did some work on the computer, then got ready and moseyed on over to the theater. It was nice to see our cast and crew again. The rest you know because I spilled the beans in the first paragraph. Have you ever spilled the beans? Where did the expression come from anyway? I just looked it up and don’t care for any of the explanations. Therefore, I have just opened a can of beans and spilled them. That act has not revealed to me anything other than I have literally spilled the damn beans. What the HELL am I talking about?

Today, I’ll be up by eight-thirty, out of the house by nine, I’ll have a light breakfast, I’ll go to the mail place to gather up anything that might have come, then I can relax until it’s time to go to the theater. At this point, it’s a very light house, so I may offer some comps just to get some butt cheeks in seat cheeks. I’ll probably just come home afterwards, but we’ll see who’s there and who’s not there.

Tomorrow, I’ll be up by eleven-thirty and then I’ll see our matinee, which will be followed by a talk-back. After that, I’ll go have a fine dining experience somewhere because I haven’t had one of those in quite some time. Then next week is very busy getting the book stuff in motion, working on the project with David Wechter, and preparing our new actress to take over for our departing actress. Since she’s in the show and knows all the female tracks, that shouldn’t be too hard, but we do have to get her up to speed on the trio, her solo, and the duet she’s in.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eight-thirty and out the door by nine, have a light breakfast, hopefully pick up packages, relax, and then see our evening show, basically just to be supportive of our pianist sub. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite oddball expressions like “spill the beans?” Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy the book is announced, happy we had a very good show and audience, and happy that I spilled the beans, which I must now clean up.
