THUS AND THUSLY

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, it is late and thus I must thusly write these here thus notes in a hurry because to not do so would result in chaos and a world run amok and thus I shall thusly write these thus here notes. I am now obsessed with the word thus and I don’t care who knows about it. And as I write these here notes thusly, I am listening to Gerald Finzi music – I talk of Finzi a lot, but every time I listen to something then I just keep listening because he was a most marvelously marvelous composer of the English variety. His music is so beautiful – I’ve never heard a bum piece by Mr. Finzi. He’s very much in the English pastoral mode and if you like that mode then you will love his music. Now playing, A Severn Rhapsody – stunning. And whilst I’m listening, I’m also in the opening stages of uploading 69 CDs, a new Dimitri Mitropoulos box set from Sony. He’s always been a favorite conductor of mine and this set does look magnificent. I’ve got the first five CDs uploaded and will do five more before transferring them into the Music app, after which I’ll begin that journey of hearing all of them. Very exciting. Otherwise, we began our fifth week of shows over at the Group Rep and we had a fantastic audience that was with the show from word one right through to the end. They laughed large, they cheered large (the songs all got the best reactions they’ve ever gotten, frankly), and the cheers after Sunset Strip 1965 were incredible, but Lisa Dyson, who sings it, was on fire. It’s so much fun when we have audiences like that. So many happy, smiling faces after. What a treat. Prior to that, we rehearsed our new gal and she’ll be just fine. It was sad to say goodbye to our departing actor and I do think she wishes she could have finished the run, but she’s got a three-month paying gig, so we all wished her a beautiful run and journey. After the show, since I’d only eaten a turkey sandwich, I ordered some wonton soup and vegetable egg rolls – this time it came very quickly, and it was just the right evening snack and was very tasty and calming (the soup – vegetable egg rolls don’t calm). And thus, I continue thusly uploading many CDs so I can listen to them posthaste.

I don’t know if anyone has noticed that it is the final day of April and that means that tomorrow is a little month I like to call May, and it is my fervent hope and prayer that May will be a month filled health, wealth, happiness, creativity, and all things bright and beautiful.

Yesterday wasn’t so bad. I got seven-and-a-half hours of sleep and was thrilled to see that the book galley and covers had arrived. Everything looked great, but I got both Doug Haverty and Grant Geissman to check, too. Once they had, I approved all of it and now the book goes to the printer, and I should have a test book in a week or so. Very exciting. Then I answered e-mails, ordered the turkey sandwich from Uncle Bernie’s deli – it arrived thirty minutes later and was very good – it came with some potato salad. Then I relaxed by sitting on the new couch and watching a motion picture on the Flix of Net entitled Wind River. It’s one of those “inspired by actual events” BS things because it’s inspired by things that have happened but not an actual specific event – I mean, why bother with that line at all?  It’s purportedly a crime drama thriller but what it really is is a pretentious and overlong something or other. It stars Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen (who I just saw in Oldboy). Poorly directed and not well written, I did stick it out to the end just to stick it out to the end.

After that, I shaved and showered and then moseyed on over to the mail place, where I picked up one package and one of the two important envelopes and a huge residual for eighteen cents. I don’t even think you can buy a lollipop for eighteen cents. Then I moseyed on over to the theater and we did our little put-in for our new gal, running each thing several times. I knew a few folks who came to see the show, including one very nice fellow who’s a regular on the LA Facebook groups and runs the LA movie theater group – Bill Counter. He absolutely loved the show.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I haven’t decided whether I’ll eat or not before our little six o’clock whatever it is, but if I do it will only be something like an omelet. We shall see. I may just wait until after the show. I’ve already written the little commentary for the six o’clock whatever, so I can just relax until I head over to the theater around five o’clock. Then we do the six o’clock whatever and then it’s our show with our replacement gal doing her first performance.

Tomorrow, I’ll attend the matinee, then I’ll eat something, then come home and relax. This coming week is back to the project with David Wechter, some meetings and meals, and doing whatever needs doing.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, decide whether to eat or not to eat, relax, do the six o’clock whatever and then do our show. Today’s topic of discussion: What are the most pretentious movies you’ve ever seen? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where I shall thusly sleep, after which I will thusly arise.
