DANSE MACABRE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry because I promised someone I would attend a 10:00 reading of their play and I’m one to keep my promises, and so whilst listening to a macabre dance known as Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens, I shall type letters that form words that form sentences that form paragraphs that form these here notes. But first I must get off my chair and do a macabre dance to this Danse Macabre. My macabre dance consists of doing the hokey pokey whilst eating corn. It truly is as macabre as it gets, dear readers. Prior to dancing with corn, I did watch two motion pictures on the Flix of Net – the first motion picture was entitled 21 Bridges, starring Chadwick Boseman (his final film), Sienna Miller, and J.K. Simmons, one of thousands of good cop discovers bad cops. This one’s nothing special – actors are good and so is the pace, but we’ve all seen this a million times already. There must be some new kind of story to be told. The second motion picture was more interesting for a few reasons. It was entitled Gunpowder Milkshake and is one of those wannabe Tarantino films filled with references to other films and trying to out-Tarantino in its use of Morricone music – this film being scored with Morricone music but having its composer simply change a few notes and calling it an original score. The production design is fun in its way and the entire film is arch but with occasionally amusing moments. It’s one of those female killer movies filled with comic book violence, over-the-top stunts, and a silly as can be “plot.” Actors are fun – Karen Gillan (you’d never know she was Scottish), Michelle Yeoh, Angela Bassett, Lena Heady, Carla Gugino and Paul Giamatti. Of course, at 154 minutes it does overstay its welcome by thirty minutes. But it was enjoyable in its way. And now, I’m doing a macabre dance, have finished the corn, and am high stepping back to the chair to complete these here notes.

Yesterday was okay, kinda sorta. I did get eight hours of sleep, got some good news, but also had to deal with some nonsense I’d prefer not dealing with, announced the June 3 Kritzerland show, had some fried catfish for food with potato salad for my side, did some work on the computer, and then watched the two motion pictures. After that, I had a little snack and began listening to music.

Today, I’ll be up by eight-thirty and then I’ll mosey on over to the theater about nine-thirty for this reading. After that, I suppose I’ll mosey on over to the mail place to see what’s what, I’ll figure out what I want to eat, I’ll eat, I’ll begin reading through the new screenplay for the project with David Wechter, I’ll do whatever needs doing, and then I suppose I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow, I can sleep in and then have a ME day, and then next week is hopefully not going to be too torturous. There’ll be meetings and meals, too, I have to choose about five more songs for the Kritzerland show and get the music to the singers, we have to make a rehearsal schedule, too, and then whatever needs doing will be done.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eight-thirty, see a play reading, hopefully pick up packages, eat, read and make notes, and then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite cop films? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, having done my macabre dance doing the hokey pokey whilst eating corn.
