I WONDER AS I WANDER AND I WANDER AS I WONDER

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to some Tchaikovsky orchestra suite as done by Dimitri Mitropoulos whilst sipping on a diet Dr Pepper, letting my mind wander as I wonder why my mind is wandering as I wonder. The problem with my mind wandering as I wonder is that I sit here and don’t type and therefore I’m still here – a Stephen Sondheim reference – not moving right along, in the first paragraph. That is most unseemly. I did manage to watch a motion picture on Amazon Prime entitled Enemy of the State, starring Will Smith, Gene Hackman, Jon Voight, Jason Robards, Jr. (who has about three minutes of screen time), Regina King, Lisa Bonet, and several up-and-coming young actors. It’s a Jerry Bruckheimer thing directed by Tony Scott so you know what you’re in for – louder, faster, louder. The story itself gets sillier as it goes along, but the idea was certainly ahead of its time – the government having the ability to know your every move. There was no social media when this film came out in 1998 so no one could have imagined just how little privacy anyone has anymore if you’re on any of the social media platforms. And how there are cameras everywhere. It’s quite frightening, actually. Thankfully, the actors are all good even as the script gets more ludicrous in the last fifteen minutes. Only one writer is credited, but apparently there were drafts by Aaron Sorkin and Tony Gilroy. I’d seen it before several years ago when it was on the Flix of Net but remembered little of it. It did pass the time. During the film, I had my second meal o’ the day – a burger and onion rings from nearby Fatburger. Earlier, I’d had the Eyetalian sandwich from Fat Sal’s and it wasn’t as good as it was the first time and seemed even smaller. Certainly not enough to eat for an entire day. And now, Tchaikovsky’s fifth symphony is playing and it’s very nice and tuneful – the mono sound on this one isn’t that hot.

Yesterday was what it was. I was up a couple of times during the night, but ultimately got eight hours of sleep or close to it. I did answer e-mails, had some telephonic calls, I did mosey on over to the mail place to pick up nothing really important – just the new SAG card and a couple of bills, which I needed like a hole in the head, if you get my meaning. Then I came home, ordered the sandwich, ate the sandwich, had another telephonic conversation, watched the movie, had the burger and onion rings, and the rest you know, especially the wandering and the wondering, not necessarily in that order. I tried to keep my mind off the negative things but that was not easy so keep sending excellent vibes and xylophones for a damn miracle.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll hopefully pick up some packages, I’ll eat, I’ll finish the two damn sets of liner notes, I’ll continue getting things in order, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax.

Tomorrow is already Friday – how can that be? Not only Friday, but Friday the thirteenth – that ought to be a barrel of fun, if you get my meaning. I’m sure it will be a horror filled day, but who knows? Maybe we’ll be surprised and it won’t be. We shall have to see what we shall have to see, not necessarily in that order.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, hopefully pick up packages, eat, finish liner notes, continue getting things in order, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What movies may have seemed far-fetched when they came out but have proven to be oddly and/or frighteningly prescient? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, where what little of my mind remains shall wander as I wonder and my mind shall also wonder as I wander.
