HEADING TO THE FINISH LINE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am definitely heading towards the finish line with the new book. I figure it might be done on Sunday, but if not then definitely on Monday. If I were writing a Nordic mystery I’d be heading toward the Finnish line but I’m not writing a Nordic mystery because what do I know about Nordic mysteries other than I like them. Well, I could write a Nordic mystery entitled Sven Solves a Mystery, that might be fun. A new mystery series featuring Sven Ingesson, private citizen who has a keen eye for solving Nordic mysteries. I could sell it to Netflix for 469 million dollars, then to the BBC who could do their version called Oliver Solves a Mystery set in Surrey on the Thames in Blackpool. I have no idea what the HELL I’m talking about and I just had to deal with a little unnecessary drama but I dealt with it and it’s fine. Where was I? Oh yes, heading to the finish line. When I finish the current pages after posting these here notes, I should be on page 270 of the manuscript and then I’ll try to keep the next section to ten or fifteen pages, and then it’s just the ending, which probably will be ten pages or so. Whew! This book has EXHAUSTED me and you’ll understand why when you read it. Prior to that, I watched a movie called Double Jeopardy on my break – turns out I’d seen it but I didn’t realize that until about twenty minutes in. It’s okay and I dozed off for some of it anyway.

Yesterday was not so bad, thankfully. I only got six hours of sleep due to writing until about three, but I was up at ten-thirty, futzed and finessed and for once it didn’t take that long, wrote one new page, then moseyed on over to Marshall Harvey’s abode to see the first cut of episode eight. I found it funny and the musical number that ends that episode is really terrific. And it’s terrific without any backgrounds yet, so when Karl Sonnenberg works his green screen magic it should be really fun. It’s a duet with the wonderful Allie Trimm and she and Sami do it up brown, as Noel Coward would have said. We then went back and finessed and it was almost nothing – just swapping out two or three shots, taking a breath out to tighten up a cut, and that was about it. So, Marshall now moves on to episode nine and then it’s episode ten, the season finale.

After we finished, we went to the Coral Café and had some food. Marshall had an Eyetalian omelet and I had a patty melt and fries. Then I stopped at the mail place and picked up NOTHING. After that, I came home and began writing and thus far I’ve done ten pages and shall do another five after posting these here notes. And I started another movie, Dolores Claiborne, which I’ve never seen and I’m enjoying so far.

Today, I’ll try to be up by eleven, I’ll futz and finesse, I’ll write new pages, I’ll eat something light but fun, I’ll write more new pages, I’ll finish watching the movie, I’ll write more new pages, and then at some point I’ll watch, listen, and relax without the latter two coming into play.

Tomorrow is exactly more of the same and we’ll see if I finish or not. If I do, then on Monday Muse Margaret will get all the remaining pages plus a few assorted pages where I’ve added things she thought would be good to add. Then I have to catch up on tons of stuff, deal with a lot of unpleasant stuff, hope for a major miracle or three or there will be HELL toupee, and get a damn haircut so I don’t look like a seventy-five-year-old hippie.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven, futz and finesse, write new pages, eat, write new pages, watch something, write new pages and then try to at least relax a little bit. Today’s topic of discussion: I’m a big fan of Nordic Noirs like Wallender and The Killing and The Bridge and the Dragon Tattoo movies. What, if any, are your favorite Nordic noirs and if you watched any of the American reproductions, which did you like? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to be in the home stretch.
