NEW FACES OF 2023

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had us a very good first rehearsal for the Kritzerland young folks show, a marathon that went from four-thirty to ten, which is what happens when you have a cast of twelve. This is a very strong group and the songs are working really well. I just love sitting and watching talented young folks who are not jaded and still are filled with joy and passion. We’ve definitely added the Saturday night show, which also might sell out, so that’s good. In other breaking bombshell news, we’ve had a helluva rainstorm going since about two yesterday afternoon and it’s only abated a couple of times and not for long – we even had thunder and lightning. I have to believe they won’t be able to cry “drought” much longer. Obviously, I had no time to watch anything nor listen to anything because I was up at eleven after seven hours of sleep, and I futzed and finessed for ninety minutes, then went to the mail place to get a small package – I ordered food prior to leaving from Daughter’s Deli, daughter being the daughter of the owner of Langer’s Deli. I had my usual papa’s sandwich – pastrami, coleslaw, Swiss, and Russian dressing. I also got a side of chicken salad for after the rehearsal.

The food arrived not long after I got home, I ate it, and then wrote eight pages, so that was good. Then I shaved and showered and we began our marathon rehearsal, doing numbers both from and cut from shows like Gypsy, Bye Bye Birdie, Smile, Welcome to My World, Hunchback of Notre Dame, two Sherman Brothers medleys, The Secret Garden, Roar of the Greasepaint, Willy Wonka, Godspell, Fanny, Ruthless, and more.

Once rehearsal was done, I posted on the Facebook about the added show, ate the chicken salad, and then wrote another few pages for a total of twelve, and I’ll try to write the other three after posting these here notes.

Today, I’ll be up by eleven at the latest, I’ll answer e-mails, I’ll futz and finesse, and then write for most of the day unless I’m notified that the first cut of episode seven is ready for viewing – if so, I’ll go there immediately. I will absolutely watch a motion picture at some point, one I’m very much looking forward to, but mostly it will be writing until I know where episode seven stands. I also have to have what I’m sure will be a VERY unpleasant telephonic conversation when I get up, but I will have it and then wash it down the damn drain.

The rest of the week is mostly writing away, then on Friday we have another marathon rehearsal, on Saturday we have our stumble-through, I give notes, and then we all go directly to The Gardenia for sound check, after which audience arrives and eats and then we do our show. I’m not sure there’ll be any going out after, but we’ll see. Sunday, we’ll just do a really brief sound check, then it’s dinner, and then we do our sold out show. I can assure you there will be going out after that one. I’ll probably not send pages to Muse Margaret until Monday morning but we’ll see how it goes.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up by eleven at the latest, have an unpleasant telephonic conversation, futz and finesse, write new pages, eat, and then at some point, watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: Who are your favorite kid actors, both today and of old? What’s the best kid performance you’ve ever seen onstage? And in the movies? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had a fun first rehearsal with the new faces of 2023.
