SHAVE AND A HAIRCUT

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I finally finished writing something for the Robby Awards – somehow, I misread the date as February 15 when it’s February 5, so I really had to buckle down, Winsocki and finish the damn thing. It took quite a while, but it’s done. And as I now write these here notes I’m being accompanied by Mr. Aaron Copland’s third symphony. Earlier, I tried once again to find something to watch and failed miserably. I’m ready to just nuke Netflix and just keep HBO-Max and I think I’ll probably do that posthaste. So, it was an evening of work and no play. I didn’t even have a damn snack, mostly because I have no damn snacks in the damn house.

Yesterday wasn’t much of a day, although it wasn’t unpleasant, thankfully. I only got five hours of sleep, got up, answered e-mails, proofed a little, got one proofers comments back but I have to finish doing my proofing then enter my fixes because there’ll be some overlap. At one, I moseyed on over to next door for my haircut. She said she’d never seen my hair that long and it was, I must say, crazy. My hair has a mind of its own when it gets long and it’s a rather demented mind. Anyway, one hour later and I was looking like a normal human being again, nicely coifed and how I never have to worry about what my hair will look like – when it’s at this length it just comes out fine. I must say, I’m not that fond of Mr. Copland’s third symphony, in fact I find it annoying at times. Some of it’s fine, of course. As an American symphonist, I much prefer Howard Hanson and Robert Ward. I moved ahead to the next selection, which is Barber’s gorgeous first Essay for orchestra. He, of course, is one of my favorite composers, American or otherwise. These selections, plus many American music rarities, are part of a big box set of radio performances by the New York Philharmonic – it’s a great set.

Where was I? Oh, yes, the nice haircut. I came home and decided to just order in, some cheap fast food – Jack in the Box. Just a few items that were fine and that I ate up quickly.

Then it was back to proofing, which I did for the rest of the afternoon, about sixty pages in all. I’m noting little things I may or may not want to adjust. That was pretty much it and it was pretty much that.

Today, I’ll be up when I’m up, I’ll do whatever needs doing, I’ll proof, then I have a lunch meeting at two-thirty, then I’ll stop at the mail place to hopefully pick up whatever’s there, I’ll probably stop at Gelson’s briefly for some Diet Coke, then it’s home and more proofing.

Tomorrow, I’m pretty sure she of the Evil Eye will be here so I’ll have to go have a breakfast and I’ll finish proofing then. Then I’ll begin entering my fixes and when that’s done, I’ll move on to proofer one’s fixes. Sunday, I will hopefully see episode nine and then we’ll do whatever finessing there is to do, and then I have a brief rehearsal for the Robby Awards in the late afternoon, depending on when Marshall Harvey and I finish our work. Then this coming week I’ll need a major miracle or three, I’ll hopefully enter proofer two’s fixes and then I’m hoping that we can get Grant Geissman to begin the book design. This one’s pretty easy actually, at least that’s the hope. Once I have the designed book, then out it will go to a couple of people I’m hoping will blurb it.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, be up when I’m up, do whatever needs doing, proof, have a lunch meeting, hopefully pick up whatever’s at the mail place, stop at Gelson’s, then come home and proof more, after which I may or may not watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: It’s Friday – what is currently in your CD player and your DVD/Blu and Ray player? I’ll start – CD, nothing. Blu-ray, nothing. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have finally had a haircut.
