THE HAPPY MUSE

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I am most happy to report that Muse Margaret loved the rest of the book, she was moved, she laughed, and she only had one tiny fix that she was totally right about and that took all of two seconds to adjust by merely deleting four words. So, that made me indescribably happy and I then contacted the two proofers and talked to one of them about the style of the book as it’s not going to be a typical proofing job. I’ll talk to the other proofer today or tomorrow. After Muse Margaret’s call, I felt as if a great weight was lifted off me. I think for my proofing, I’ll do what I normally do although it’s gotten so expensive to do, which is print out a hard copy of the book and correct on that because doing it on the computer screen is really hard for me these days. I think when I printed out last year’s book it was forty bucks or something and that was double sided. Anyway, I’m thrilled to basically be done with it save for anything I catch along the way. And now, I am sitting here like so much fish, listening to music for the first time in over a week, maybe even two weeks. Because I watched The Third Secret last night, which has a wonderful score by Richard Arnell, who was mainly a classical composer, I’m listening to lots of Arnell. Have already heard his violin concert and symphonic variations, both wonderful and melodic pieces, and now I’m just finishing up his first symphony and then will be listening to the rest of his symphonies – he wrote seven but died before finishing the seventh, but it was completed by someone else. He’s worth checking out and all his stuff is on the Tube of You and can be grabbed quite easily. I could find not one thing to watch last night, which is just shocking, so I’m going back to Blu-ray watching. I did watch a movie before going to bed the night before, a motion picture entitled The Sting. I saw it when it came out and found it to be marvelously marvelous and really clever and entertaining. I’ve only seen it once or twice since, and the original Blu-ray transfer was terrible, but there’s a new transfer out and I believe that’s what I watched and I was just as entertained as ever. Newman and Redford are magical together and the large supporting cast is filled with incredible character actors. George Roy Hill was a perfect choice for director, the screenplay is tops, and Marvin Hamlisch’s Joplin music fits the movie like a glove. And what could be better than Norman Rockwell-like title cards. It’s basically a perfect movie.

Yesterday was a fine day, thankfully devoid of dramatics. I got seven hours of sleep, got up, had the Muse Margaret call, which was the perfect way to begin a day, had several telephonic conversations, made some Wacky Noodles for food, had more telephonic conversations, went to the mail place and picked up a helpful envelope, then went to the bank, then came back home. Then I attempted to find something to watch and failed and then I began listening to the music of Richard Arnell and am just finishing up the second symphony.

Today, I’m going to try and sleep in, then I’ll do whatever needs doing, hopefully pick up some packages, have an early celebratory meal with friend Robert Yacko, then I’ll probably begin proofing the book. If I do the hard copy, then I’ll be lunching somewhere every day because that’s when I get the most work done. Then I can watch, listen, and relax.

The rest of the week is more of the same and then at some point towards the end of the week I’ll hopefully see episode nine and I have a couple of meetings and meals to have.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, try to sleep in, do whatever needs doing, hopefully pick up some packages, eat, proof, then watch, listen, and relax. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite films of Paul Newman, Robert Redford, and Robert Shaw? Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland, happy to have had such a wonderful reaction from Muse Margaret to the last third of the new book.
