THE EARLY SHOW

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, I must write these here notes in a hurry for she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon. I may even try to post these there notes early so I can get as much sleep as possible. I’ve been waking up very early every morning after having gone to bed very late. I don’t actually get out of bed, but I do lie there like so much fish, not sleeping. So, I’m a little overtired, especially as the days and nights this week and last have been jam-packed with meetings, meals, work sessions, and writing. I’m yawning right now and have been every three minutes since around seven. Speaking of seven, yesterday was a roller coaster sort of day. I got up very early but stayed in bed until about nine. I got up and had yet another annoying e-mail, which I knew I had to address. With some sage advice from our very own Mr. Nick Redman, who also gave some parsley and rosemary advice as well, I drafted a response and sent it. It was not the sort of response I would have made if left to my own devices, and it was a difficult one to write, because when I’m backed into a corner by someone who’s being a bully, I tend to want to be confrontational. But, there was nothing to be gained by that. I simply had to make a decision and I made it. Some battles are worth fighting and some aren’t, and this one simply wasn’t, so I pulled the plug on the next Kritzerland release, which, happily, I hadn’t gotten to far on. I’ve asked my mastering engineer to put the project that was to follow on the fast track and to try to get it done as quickly as he can. Meanwhile, my designer is coming up with a cover, and I’ll write the notes early next week. If all goes according to Hoyle, I’m hopeful to officially announce it around February 10th. A lot of this will depend on the mastering guy, but I’m hopeful he can work his usual magic. And the music is wonderful. After that, I did the long jog, which helped me put whatever residual annoyances I was feeling away, and I felt much better after the jog. I then did corrections and additions to the eleven pages I wrote yesterday (that’s about as much as I’ve ever written in one day), and then I mushed on and over the course of the day I did a little over six pages, which was fine. I had a sandwich at the Subway, and some biscotti for dessert (I got a huge tub of it at Costco). I then had an afternoon meeting with someone who has an idea for a project – he wanted to pick my brain and I let him because that’s the kind of guy I’m. I picked up a couple of packages from the mail place, and then I came home and sat on my couch like so much fish.

Last night, I attempted to watch The Fall Of The Roman Empire. I watched the first twenty-two minutes and promptly fell asleep. So I did not watch a motion picture on DVD. Instead, I listened to a few CDs and did some organizing in the CD closet. I have created a lot more room in there, so that’s good. And that was my day, and that was my night.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below because I think that instead of The Late Show, notes-wise, I think I’ll post them early so we can have The Early Show, notes-wise. What do you think of that, that-wise?

Today, I shall do the long jog as soon as she of the Evil Eye arrives. I’ll then drop off some stuff for our upcoming Kritzerland release to Designer Doug, and then I’ll have a little meeting with composer John Scott. He’s finished an opera and wants to chat with me about possibly directing it. Since I’ve never done an opera, I’m intrigued.

After that, I’ll come home and relax and decide whether I want to see Benjamin Button at my friend’s screening room – I may decide to wait until Tuesday, when it’s screened at the DGA, or maybe I’ll just see it and get it over with. I’m not sure what I’ll do about foodstuffs. If I go to the screening, there’s usually stuff there to nibble on.

Tomorrow, other than writing and typing up my notes re the informal reading of the long script, the day is mine all mine. The writer of said long script called me and told me that he is really thrilled I’m on board and I think it will be fun to start working on the show. I think he’s become trusting very quickly, a lot more quickly than I could have imagined.

Now, let’s all put on our pointy party hats and our colored tights and pantaloons, let’s all break out the cheese slices and the ham chunks, let’s all dance the Hora and the Square Dance, because today is the birthday of occasional dear reader Noel. So, let’s give a big haineshisway.com birthday cheer to occasional dear reader Noel. On the count of three: One, two, three – A BIG HAINESHISWAY.COM BIRTHDAY CHEER TO OCCASIONAL DEAR READER NOEL!!!

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do the long jog, drop materials off to my designer, have a meeting, relax, and perhaps see a screening. Today’s topic of discussion: What is the first magazine that you actively remember reading and one that you got hooked on – can be a regular magazine, a fanzine, a comic book, whatever. For me, it was MAD magazine, which I bought when it was still in comic form. I loved the parodies and read them over and over again. I also like Superman comic books, and even Jughead and Archie. Later, it was Famous Monsters Of Filmland – oh, if I only had those first twenty-five issues now. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst we have The Early Show, notes-wise.
