BREAKING THE FAST

Bruce Kimmel Photograph bk's notes

Well, dear readers, we had us a terrific stumble-through yesterday.  The show structure worked wonderfully, and this show has lots of funny stuff in it, which is my favorite kind of show.  I also have several songs of my own concocting in it, about four, I think.  Doing the stumble-throughs the performers just come alive because we’re all just sitting there enjoying each other thoroughly.  Even Andrea Marcovicci came by to be supportive – Shelly Markham, who plays her number couldn’t be with us yesterday, so that was very sweet of her.  Everyone is doing a great job.  We only had one song where lyrics were a problem and I know that the people doing it will have nailed it by today.  I gave a few notes afterwards and we ran some stuff we needed to smooth out and I’m hoping it will go very well.

Prior to that, I slept seven hours, then got up and did a two-mile jog.  Then I did some errands and whatnot, then returned home and did some work on the computer and prepared the eBlast for Monday’s release.  Then it was time for our stumble-through.

After we finished, the Staitman clan and Jenna and her mom and me all went to Stanley’s to break our Yom Kippur fast.  I think this is probably the first time in many years that I actually fasted.  I had a small Caesar and some baked penne with mushrooms and marinara.  I think my tummy must have shrunk because I was so full from the get-go it wasn’t even funny.  Of course, that didn’t stop me from finishing everything.  The Staitmans went on their merry way and Jenna and mom came back to the house to wait for Jenna’s stepdad, who we coming from the end of the Yom Kippur services.  They went home and I sat on my couch like so much fish, trying to rest my oh so weary voice.  I sucked on a couple of Ricola’s and that helped a bit.  But still send excellent vibes and xylophones that my voice is strong for tonight’s show.

Last night, I watched the first forty minutes of a motion picture on Blu and Ray that I’d never seen before – The Dogs of War, starring Christopher Walken.  I wasn’t expecting much of anything, especially from the ad art, but so far I must say I’m really enjoying it a whole lot.  It’s a good script (from a novel by Frederick Forsyth), well directed by John Irvin, but what I’m finding really captivating is the photography of Jack Cardiff.  I read one “review” online that said that for Cardiff the photography seemed ordinary.  Really?  Funny, I see nothing ordinary at all about it – what I see is Jack Cardiff doing what he does best – gorgeous color photography, great lighting and happily with this transfer it looks really good.  But I’ll have more to say after I finish watching it tomorrow.

Today, I shall hopefully arise after a good night’s beauty sleep, and then I’ll definitely do a jog, then relax and keep my trap shut until it’s time to mosey on over to sound check.  We’ll do that, then I’ll have my usual artichoke, then it’s show time.  After the show, I’m sure we’ll go all grab a bite to eat at Little Toni’s.  I will, of course, have a full report.

Tomorrow I’ll be up at six in the morning to announce our new title, after which I shall go right back to bed.  Then I finish choosing songs for the November Kritzerland show – we have, thus far, a really great cast lined up.  We still have one male to cast, so hopefully we’ll figure that out tomorrow.  I’ll eat, hopefully pick up some packages, hopefully print out a LOT of orders and, at some point, relax and finish The Dogs of War.

The rest of the week is meetings and meals and seeing a couple of things.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must, for example, do a jog, relax, do a sound check, do a show and eat.  Today’s topic of discussion: It’s free-for-all day, the day in which you dear readers get to make with the topics and we all get to post about them.  So, let’s have loads of lovely topics and loads of lovely postings, shall we, whilst I hit the road to dreamland still full from my breaking the fast.
