"WHO'S GOT THE PAIN?"

Photo of Bruce Kimmel

bk's notes II

Well, dear readers, I am in pain. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I, BK, am in pain. Why am I in pain you might ask and I might tell you because who am I to keep such things from you? Well, I don’t have the pain from doing the mambo, I have the pain because Luckie came up to me while I was working yesterday. I petted her on the head a few times then told her to go away. She acted as if I had poured flaming hot soup over her and she yelped and peed. I now have devised a remedy for this behavior – on the side of my house is a walkway – on one end of it is a gate and I blocked off the other end so there is no access to the yard and no way to jump a fence or dig under one. That is Luckie’s new place to stay if she has one of her moments. She does not like it, but that’s life, Luckie-wise. Anyway, she had her moment, so I got up. She knew what she’d done and I think she knew where she was going, so she immediately began to crawl in the other direction. I’m a faster walker than she is a crawler, however, and I got hold of her collar and picked her up by the scruff of her neck and bodily got her outside (while I was doing this, she emitted a steady stream of pee all over the kitchen). She was immediately sorry, but I kept her out there for an hour for her to think about it. Then I let her in and we kissed and made up. However, in bodily getting her outside, I pulled every muscle in my lower back, hence I am in pain, and severe pain at that. It didn’t stop me from writing eighteen count them eighteen pages yesterday but it did stop me from sleeping well last night.

Also, on our walk this morning I noticed that Luckie was having a bit of diarrhea – can any of our dear reader dog owners tell me the best thing to do for such a thing? Has anyone noticed that I just used the word diarrhea in these here notes? That is so unseemly I don’t even know how to process that information.

I must keep these here notes short today because the cleaning lady will be here at any moment and Luckie will bark and give me a headache and she will bark right back and give me a headache and we’re all going to get the evil eye so I’ve got to vamoose, or, at the very least, vamelk. So, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below right this very minute.

Have I mentioned that I am in pain? It reminds me of that song:

Who’s got the pain when they lift the Luckie
Who’s got the pain when she goes pee
Who’s got the pain when Luckie’s a bad girl
Do you know who? It’s me

Don’t forget, Donald should have a brand spanking new radio show up tomorrow, and our Unseemly Live Chat is tomorrow, too. It will be our final live chat of the year and our final one through AOL. Starting with the first chat of the New Year we will have our very own handy-dandy haineshisway.com chat room. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too? So, tell your family, tell your friends, tell the man in the street and the woman in the parking lot – soon we will be the most popular site on all the Internet.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must get in my automobile with Luckie and drive hither and thither and also yon and I must not return until the cleaning lady is gone. Yes, Virginia, I must be yon until she’s gone. Today’s topic of discussion: What were your five favorite television programs this year? Second topic – what will all of you be doing for New Year’s Eve? We, of course, will be right here, having our rockin’ New Year’s Eve celebration to end all celebrations. Post away, my pretties.

- Bruce Kimmel

We have a collie, a breed known for its digestive "problems." My wife always gives Ethel (yes, Ethel) rice for a couple of days when she has the "d" word.

Good MORNing dear readers. I must share a dream I had last evening. I went to a get together after my performance of "Annie" last night and in the car I'm listening to BK's Sondheim CD. The last thing I remember hearing was Guy Haine's "Sorry Grateful". So, I had this dream, and in my dream (brief Carpenter's reference) BK was landscaping the house I grew up in a small town in California and down the street at the movie theatre, someone had set out a table in front and was selling copies of "Benjamin Kritzer". I guess in the back of my mind I am waiting for my copy from HHW!! It was quite the dream. I don't remember what happened other than I was in a quandry over whether or not I should buy a copy and have BK sign it, or wait for my copy from HHW. Something went through my head about giving one as a gift, then the phone rang. Anyway, I had to share. Cheers!!

Nurse KT says: Advil for you. A mixture of boiled white rice and well-strained boiled chopmeat for Luckie, (strain and rinse after cooking)--works like a charm.

Alas, no plans yet for New Year's Eve, but a certain handsome orthopedic surgeon has been extremely flirtatious and hinty the last few days at work, so I'm hoping he'll come through.

TV shows: I rarely watch TV, but my 2 sisters and I adored the now-defunct Three Sisters--it was very "inside" to three sisters.

My favorite TV programs this year are M*A*S*H, Red Dwarf, this really cheesey game show called Supermarket Sweep, Chef Tony's infomercial for the Miracle Blade Perfection Series III, Wheel of Fortune, Lawrence Welk, and The Red Green Show. That's everything I've watched this year.

My New Years Eve plans are to attend my church's annual soup-tasting party (we're bringing vegetable matzo ball soup). Then when we get home, I'll carve the pumpkin and put it on the front porch. Then I'll sit on the couch with my cat and eat ice cream until midnight (she is very excited. She only gets to eat ice cream once a year). Then we'll watch our new movie Attack of the Puppet People.

Hey Bruce, that is terrible that you are in pain. Re: what to do for Luckie. Don't you have a vet you can call to get those answers? My aunt would know. Her little poodle Coco is old and gets sick a lot.

Favorite tv shows this year:
Favorite soap: Y&R
Favorite reality: Amazing Race
Favorite new show: Everwood
Favorite old show: Charmed

Hope everyone had happy holidays!

Posted by Jennifer @ 12/28/2002 10:47 AM PST

I'm forever doing PSs: The rice-and-chopmeat concoction I did not get from The Settlement Cookbook (who is old enough to remember that?), but good advice from my vet. Also, a dog will gulp it up, but won't eat plain rice. Don't give her any of her regular food til the symptoms are gone.

Posted by KT @ 12/28/2002 10:52 AM PST

So sorry! You can also give a dog Pepto-Bismol safely--1 tbs. 2 times a day...but they HATE it and get all pink all over.

Posted by KT @ 12/28/2002 10:55 AM PST

I must respectfully disagree with KT. Our dog does indeed gobble up plain rice (in fact, it's about the only thing she will eat when she's having her bouts with diarrhea). And, like KT, the rice solution came from our vet, who, in our case anyway, specifically told us to have Ethel eat rice and only rice (no mixing of other foods) until her problems subsided.

I'm just getting around to listening to Donald's holiday show. Definitely different (and very entertaining). Take a listen before it goes away.

Hi JMK:
That's odd...Goldie just turns her big black nose up at plain rice, but mixed with a little boiled meat with all the animal fat rinsed off, she is easily duped. Can you pull the wool over a sheepdog's eyes? Yes.
'Course Goldie is not your average dog with an average palate. She eats grapes and lettuce and paper towels, too.

Posted by KT @ 12/28/2002 12:42 PM PST

Paper towels are a must when
one's suffering from
diarrhea.....I've heard !! :-)

Posted by François @ 12/28/2002 12:49 PM PST

She only eats paper towels, when she's "normal" and enjoys Bounty over other brands. I think it's the Thrill of The Shredding, for her. Maybe she pretends it is the cat.

Posted by KT @ 12/28/2002 01:04 PM PST

RICE. My dogs have always loved rice. I often add it to the food as a treat. What I can't get them to do is drink rice water which helps if the problem is severe. If this is a continuing problem you might want to slowly switch Luckie's food. I now use California Rice and Lamb, or Lamb & Rice, depending on her weight. I believe California has a Chicken and Rice formula as well. Today is Echo's day to volunteer at the nursing home and we are late. Just wanted to send you this tip. Good luck.

Posted by Jane @ 12/28/2002 01:05 PM PST

Any three episodes of "Six Feet Under" would be my favourite viewing this year. I have never been so addicted to a show. If I remember the only other addict at HHW is Jose.
Sandra: After so many reruns I still find "MASH" and "Red Dwarf" very funny. Classic TV in my book. (Can't remember the chapter and page). Lawrence Welk? Not heard of here since his "Calcutta" hit of 1961. We did not ever get the TV show in OZ.

RE Luckie's problems: Someone suggested a while back that dog psychologists are worth a try. Your VET should be able to recommend a good one. Separation anxiety etc can be dealt with. Dog obedience classes can be helpful in developing the relationship between dog and person - tone of voice registering praise etc. Our dogs have trained us very well indeed. We know our place in the pack!.We feed our dogs meat and vegetables, The mince is raw and the vegetables cooked - celery, carrots and pasta. I can't remember our dogs ever having the "D" problem. They have never eaten tinned food which might be the reason. They also have each other!

Posted by Tom from OZ @ 12/28/2002 01:19 PM PST

Hey Jennifer, I totally agree with the Amazing Race. I just loved it -- too bad Ken & Gerard didn't win the big money.

Posted by Angela D. @ 12/28/2002 02:52 PM PST

Didn't you just want to reach inside the tv and bitch-slap Flo (over and over and over!)? I could not believe that Zach didn't strangle her.

Note to Irena: Please tell Raul, Fernando, Pedro, and whoever else you gave my number to that it was a fake number. They have been calling today.

How come I don't get any interesting calls? Use my number next time Irena. Was that Pedro the Fisherman by any chance?

Posted by Tom from OZ @ 12/28/2002 03:10 PM PST

I don't think it is Tom ! Irena
told me that that Pedro can't

Well, I am quite a wreck, but I thought I'd tell you loyal and true Weekend Hainsies/Kimlets that I just this very minute finished the sequel to Benjamin Kritzer. I'll write about it on Monday, but I thought you all should know. I now have to go collapse.

Posted by bk @ 12/28/2002 03:24 PM PST

Huzzah huzzah!
Congratulations, BK, for
finishing your very own second
novel!!! We all wish you a
most speedy editing and
publishing process so we can
all get this sequal in our own
Hainsie/Kimlet hands in the
not-too-distant future!

Posted by Jed @ 12/28/2002 03:39 PM PST

It was not Pedro the
Fisherman, but there was
something fishy about his
call.....

Posted by François @ 12/28/2002 03:46 PM PST

What great and wonderful news... Benjamin Kritzer Part Deux is accompli.

That was just to make Francois cringe. My fractured French is among the finest. How do you tell a man his fly is open? La mem chose.

Poor Luckie. Poor BK.

On television this year I enjoyed
TAKEN - SciFi Channel mini series
EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND - it makes me laugh
QAF - non reality television
OZ - a surreal story with some GREAT actors
TRADING SPACES - oh those wacky designers

New Year's Eve I will probably go see a production HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH.... I usually stay at home, but hate to be a Grinch to very good friends who extend invitations.

Watched HIT THE DECK today and I am certain that Miss Ann Miller's taps NEVER match her feet..EVER! Hoping to win Lana's MERRY WIDOW on video! Isn't EBAY wonderful?
CHAT tomorrow! Hurray.

Posted by Jrand55 @ 12/28/2002 03:58 PM PST

Dear Jrand: Where are you seeing HEDWIG? I am crazy for the film and soundtrack (both film and OCR), but the live show is not destined for Las Vegas (too questionable for a town that specializes in sleazy buck-nekkid entertainment, masked by some feathers and sequins, and writhing "talent").

I am working on a live cast to accompany and shadow the film; there are several already around the country and 3 in LA alone, midnight showings.

I'm cringing, i'm cringing........

Hey, Jrand55, votre braguette

Posted by François @ 12/28/2002 04:20 PM PST

Very good news about BK#2!!

Did Luckie get into any chocolate, by the way?

My New Years Eve Day: Cook two big pots of soup: albondigas soup and vegetable with matzo balls. Then go to a church soup-tasting party, a long-time tradition. I didn't know how important it was to Sandra until the year we didn't go. We usually end the party quite late (like 9 pm). Then we'll stay up and watch our new copy of Attack of the Puppet People, which arrived in the mail today. This year at midnight, I shall jump and shout for joy, as my four-year term on the church board ends.

My favorite tv shows: COPS, the local news, Jay Leno, and if I can adjust the rabbit ears on the tv just so, I can get a cheesy all jewelry shopping channel that helps put me to sleep.

Posted by Laura @ 12/28/2002 04:21 PM PST

At least someone else remembers old Pedro and his whistling. My childhood memories are of 78rpm records of course. Pedro was a favourite. In my memory bank of the same era are Bluebird Of Happiness and Donkey Serenade. For those on the Francois side of the pond, there was also the Luton Girls Choir with "Dream of Olwyn".
2003 is shaping up well. BB's AJL Cd may arrive tomorrow and BK's sequel to BK will be an enjoyment to look forward to later.
I went DVD shopping yesterday.
"Into The Woods" and "Sunday In The Park".
Is "Passion" available on DVD yet? Jose and I will buy it if no-one else does. Oh to hear Judy Kuhn in the role. Maybe that should be my NY wish.

Posted by Tom from OZ @ 12/28/2002 04:45 PM PST

First
Many congratulations on
finishing the book, bk! We all
eagerly await it's release.
Second
Favorite TV programs
For classics, M.A.S.H. and
Golden Girls will always hold
special places in my heart.
For new shows, I've become
quite fond of CSI, Without A
Trace, and CSI Miami, in that
order.
Off to eat the large salmon my
sister gave us for Christmas..

Posted by Ann @ 12/28/2002 05:38 PM PST

KT - the show enjoyed a healthy run in a small venue here in Indianapolis. The band is a REAL band and the "actor" is okay. Doubt that any of them would be available to travel but I will pass any info you like to the director. More a social event than a theatrical happening.

Francois - quelle fromage. 8-D

Dear Reader Laura - Attack of the Puppet People rocks....I recommend it, even if A Kvetch takes me to task. ANY film with June Kenney, John Agar, and Susan Gordon is a winner. There is also a very cute song. Just know that the original title of the film was The Astounding Puppet People, because it's not so much an Attack as a Revolt.

Posted by Jrand55 @ 12/28/2002 05:44 PM PST

Have you noticed how similar the Puppet People song is to the Brady Bunch theme? Here's the story...of a tiny lady...who would take her baths in smelly sardine cans--well, we could go on with this, but we shouldn't, should we? :)

Congrats on finishing the book! (unfortunately it takes Georges ever soooo much longer to finish the hat).

As one of those people who rarely watches commercial television, it's very difficult to say that there were FIVE things I enjoyed.
I'll take the twenty hours of TAKEN as being the highlight, and state here and now how much I am looking forward to the dvd.
OZ ended its season on a very high note.
Each and every episode of FRIENDS that I've seen this season has been enjoyable, especially those with Paul Rudd as the sympathetic nanny.
..and what can I say about what is going to be (most likely) the final season of BUFFY, but, "You go, girl!"

As for Luckie, I can only reiterate: Rice. Rice. Rice.

Proofread you fool.

Posted by Tom Guest (from OZ) @ 12/28/2002 06:40 PM PST

Dear Reader Jrand,
I have a VHS of John Cameron Mitchell doing the live show in NY at the Jane Street...he is wonderful.

No one will book the live show in LV...they just don't "get" it.
The two remaining community Little Theatres here can't afford the royalties to the play.
But one movie theatre is considering running the film maybe once a month at midnight with our live cast accompanying, ala Rocky Horror, which is a happening trend. In order to match the film, I have 4 Hedwigs
cast, including myself. It's a huge project with all the costumes and wigs involved, but we are almost there. There is a large following in Las Vegas for Hedwig, but the film multiplexes, mostly Regal, don't want to exhibit any films that aren't first-run, much less cult status. There are no second-run or Art Houses here at all.

Posted by KT @ 12/28/2002 06:49 PM PST

Ah - KT - what a great idea. I have ALWAYS enjoyed Rocky Horror best when the live cast is really on. In fact I did 12 weeks of the show as the stage manager and erstwhile Transylvanian. One fateful Saturday we did shows at 3 pm 5 pm 7 pm 9 pm and 11 pm! ALL SOLD OUT.
Did them with a click track - and between the 5 pm and 7 pm shows the tech guy didn't rewind the tape, so we we're standing on either side of the audience with our flashlights waiting for our cue in Science Fiction Double Feature and what do we hear? The last few notes of the Time Warp bows!
Ah well....Francois ...bon. Merci buttercups.
Oh, and JMK, they do not bathe in sardine cans in puppet land...they bathe in coffee cans. However, now that you mention it, the songs are very similar.
td, the thing that disappointed me most about TAKEN is that I wanted to see Mary get at least all of her hair burned off and run over by a tank. Her being taken away in handcuffs was NOTHING...of course that leaves her free for the series.
I also hate (as in ET and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS) when these Spielberg produced and/or directed things suddenly change from intensely personal stories to the heroes against the entire whole wide world. Ugh.
Quel fromage formidable. 8-D

Re: The Amazing Race. Yes I wanted to slap that whining Flo. I was very unhappy that she won. Zach deserves all her money, and an award for putting up with her. I actually wanted Terri and Ian to win, even though he was a pain. They sort of grew on me.

Oh and I love Trading Spaces. What a bathroom mess Hilde created on tonight's episode. I love Laurie and Vern.

Hildy and Doug and Kia - UGH.

Vern & Edward & Genevieve are okay.

Trading Spaces is weird, man. I couldn't watch tonight after seeing the promos for the bathroom plastic flower wall of Miss Hildy.... 8-/

Posted by François @ 12/28/2002 08:07 PM PST

Wow - My name got mentioned in a few posts today! -Can't really think of a follow up comment to that other than this sentence...

My Favorite TV:
Six Feet Under - Definitely a fan, and definitely hooked. And, yes, I've already pre-ordered the DVD boxed set of the first season. I'm hoping the extras will make the cost of the set - per episode/hour - worth the splurge.

OZ - I have fun spotting all the New York actors - some of whom are friends of mine.

QAF - As someone mentioned, great unreality TV. And the cute and handsome men aren't a bad thing either. Although it did get a little uncomfortable watching some of the episodes with my ex as our relationship was starting to come to an end. *Thankfully, the friendship has endured.

Saturday Night Live - I'm one of the relative few who have always liked the show, and always make an effort to watch it when I can. I know there have been some "down" seasons and casts, but that's part of the fun.

Friends -When I'm able to watch it...

Will & Grace -When I'm able to watch it...

Scrubs - (all together now...) When I'm able to watch it...

So Graham Norton - Fun, Fun, Fun! -And the visit to Dollywood episode has already stood up to a few repeated viewings already!

My New Year's Eve plans: Show at 7:30 followed by a party in the theatre - I think. I either end up spending New Year's Eve at a BIG party, or all by myself - and, frankly, I like the time by myself. I think, twice I've spent it in the car driving back from a gig. Kind of fun flashing the headlights and beeping the horn with the other travelling celebrators. I'm just thankful I don't have a matinee of New Year's Day like I had the past two years - UGH!

BK - Congrats on finishing the book, and best of luck with your Luckie problem.

about Six Feet Under ?!?!

Does that take place in a
graveyard ?

I know the Sherman Bro. song
: " Ten Feet Off The Ground ",
but Six Pieds Sous Terre ?
Nope !

CONGRATS, BK!! (I still haven't read book one, but now that there's a sequel I feel behooved to do so.)

I don't know from dogs, so I won't even attempt to give you doggie poop advice.

My five favorite TV shows of this year (even though I only have cable when I'm back in Louisville) are as follows:

TRADING SPACES!!! I'm an addict. Ty and Vern (and sometimes even Doug) are my favorites. Paige is just too cute for words and Amy Wynn rocks my socks. When is Frank going to finally come out? And when is Laurie gonna stop with the "bubble-gum" attitude? And why in the WORLD does Hildy wear those heels when she's on a ladder??

King of the Hill. FUNNY FUNNY FUNNY!!

Everwood. Very good show. I highly recommend it.

Will & Grace. I'm only able to see reruns, but it still makes me laugh.

Providence. I just discovered this show at 4 am on Sundays. It's great.

Oh, and I'll be working DIE FLEDERMAUS on New Year's Eve. :-\

Posted by Jason @ 12/28/2002 10:15 PM PST

Alright, have to add in my
TRADING SPACES
comments... Hildy's bathroom
tonight was absolutely
wretched. One of the worst
rooms I've seen on there.
Most of the really awful rooms
have been hers, I feel. Vern
and Genevieve are always
good, and I enjoy any episode
with Amy Wynn for reasons
wholly other than the purpose
of the show.

Posted by Jed @ 12/28/2002 10:25 PM PST

Haha! Someone's hot for Amy Wynn! I saw the previews of the bathroom re-do, and I must agree--it looked RIDICULOUS. Hildy should have been shot for that one. And let's talk about that basement she did that was navy blue all over the walls and ceiling with display cases of bubble gum and jelly beans on the wall. What was that?

Where did Alex McLeod go? She just kinda fell off the face of the earth!

Posted by Jason @ 12/28/2002 10:37 PM PST

Oh, Jed...did you ever see Dez's rooms? Talk about truly awful! Anyone who puts chartruese paint on the wall and says it has a football theme is truly out of their mind. I can't tell you how many homeowners cried over some of her rooms. You know you're safe if you get Doug, Laurie or Vern (and usually Gen) to design your room. Watch out for Frank! He likes painted pigs and roosters and trees and things. He's also really big on pinks and roses. Can we say COUNTRY QUEEN!?!?! He seems nice, though. He'd be fun to work with. Hildy can do some nice stuff, but when she goes wrong, she goes REALLY WRONG. And Dez...well, she only lasted the first season.

Have you seen the new guy? I think his name is Edward. The two rooms of his that I've seen have been nice.

Posted by Jason @ 12/28/2002 10:41 PM PST

Boy, BK, see what you started
with that question about TV
shows !!!!

May I have some more rice,
please ?

What do you mean, it's all for
Luckie ?????

Posted by François @ 12/28/2002 10:47 PM PST

Jason - Nope, never saw any
work from Dez. I have seen
Edward and he seems to be
alright. Only seen one
(mediocre) room by the new
lady, Kia, so I'll reserve
judgement on her for awhile. I
agree on Frank... I think I'd like
to work with him, but would be
nervous to have him doing a
room of mine. And, as I said
earlier, I'd be all too happy to
work with Amy Wynn ;-)

What a lovely off-topic topic
this has become!

Kia? Who is this Kia you speak of? Is that the African-American lady? Which of Edward's designs did you see?

Wow--I can't believe we're actually discussing Trading Spaces!! I'm so happy right now! haha!!!

Yes, Jason, that is Kia. Wasn't
too impressed by the one
room of hers I've seen, but I'll
give her awhile. Saw Edward
do a bedroom in blues with an
"entertainment partition."
Turned out rather well, I
thought.

FIVE FAVORITE TV SHOWS:
The first three I watch right in a row on Monday nights.
1. Jag
2. The Guardian
3. Judging Amy
4. Monk - A new detective is born!
5. The Forsyte Saga - This is absolutely the show I couldn't wait to see every week. I even watched the reruns on Sundays. It's on PBS's Masterpiece Theatre. The casting, acting, writing and directing is superb. Damian Lewis (who was also in Band of Brothers) is such a rat! I can't wait till the second installment of shows air.

Oh, yes...the entertainment partition with storage space. I was impressed, as well, with how it turned out. I wish that they would show some of the earlier episodes so you could see at least one of Dez's hieous designs. She was to Trading Spaces what Dance of the Vampires is to Broadway.

HIDEOUS. Not HIEOUS.

Sorry. :-\

This will be one of those
mornings when Bruce wakes
up and reads the overnight
posts and thinks, "What in the
hell were they talking
about???" And now I get to
watch tonight's other episode
which I missed earlier! (Doug
and Gen doing sorority and frat
rooms)

You're watching the college episode?!?! I'm so jealous!! I actually taped the six hour marathon of Trading Spaces on Weds. and now I'm just sitting here and watching it in Trading Spaces bliss. :-) Tell me all about the college show...including the shadow art!

2nd (official) topic first: My sister, her boyfriend, my niece and I will be going to a restaurant here in Olympia sometime in the early (New Year's Eve) evening, then I'll probably go home to my apartment long before midnight. Over the years, I've actually come to prefer being alone on New Year's Eve.

1st topic: My favorite TV shows:

"24"
"Life With Bonnie" - I have always loved Bonnie Hunt!
I've just discovered Graham Norton! I love his show!
"Enterprise" - Can't beat Scott Bakula, and
"Futurama"

One of the first times that I saw "Trading Spaces" was when (...whoever it was) painted the couch pink and the cover blew down and the rain (rain in Seattle, who'da thunk it?) ruined the couch. I couldn't believe it! Anyhoo, I've watched it quite a bit since then (even though I still haven't learned any of the designers' names), but my sister is the real fan. She likes quite a few of the designers (for the most part) but hates Doug the most.

Yes, I'm still awake and yes, I'm still watching Trading Spaces. :-) George, I just thought I'd share this with you: I swear to you that I just watched the aforementioned pink couch episode!! She really and truly sprayed those pieces hot pink! Paige nearly wet herself when she saw what Hildy had done. It was priceless. I'm glad I have it on video. Hehehe....

I may not have been posting, but I am lurking, oh yes, I am lurking.

Favorite TV shows of the year?

Farscape hands down. Of course it is a crime that the SciFi Channel has canceled it. Don't they remember Startrek? This is stupid with a capital S. Joe and I liked The Chronicle, and they canceled that one pretty quickly along with The Invisible Man.

Enterprise. Someone remembers Startrek. The only fly in the ointment is that awful generic pop theme song, "Faith of the Heart" or "Strength of the Bladder" or whatever, which completely misses Roddenberry's point with its "I, I, I".

Firefly, a silly premise of a Western-Space Opera, sure, but well-executed, and they'll probably cancel it, because Joe and I like it.

Wolf Lake, starring BK's pal Lou Diamond Phillips in a werewolf soaper. Joe and I liked it before it suddenly disappeared.. That is the kiss of death.

Sensible Chic on Home and Garden. Sometimes they hit it right, creating a $ 60,000 room for $ 2,000. Sometimes they really miss it. "This ugly plain flea-market table is just right to reproduce the delicately hand-carved one in our inspiration room." Not on a bet.

The Crocodile Hunter, even if he is being overmerchandised. Steve Irwin is himself alone, as opposed to his self-agrandizing clone, Jeff Corwin. I mean, to we really believe his wife "Natasha" exists?

Who invented music?
We'd like to shake his hand
For music puts a spell on us
That we don't understand.

When the rhythm pounds
And the harmony sounds
And the melody rolls around
Presto! Change-O!
We're ten feet off the ground!

WOW - There were quite a bit of late night posts! Fun, Fun, Fun! I'm sorry I didn't check back in since I was still up around 3:30AM(EST) buying a Kitchen Aid Food Processor on-line - found a great deal: on sale, extra 20%-off, free shipping AND airline miles! YIPPEE! I am now done with my Christmas shopping.... for myself. Maybe I'll make a cake when I get it!

As for Trading Spaces... If I was able to watch it regularly, I would. However, I do love the original British series, Changing Rooms - now some of those transformations have been incredible to incredulous. And they only show the 30-minute version on BBC America - sometimes they nudge the schedule and show the full half hour program plus the "American" commercial breaks which make the show run about 40 minutes. -But talk about honest opinions and tears of disgust! *I've also grown fond of House Invaders on BBC America.

And Francois: Would it really be "Six Pied Sous Terre" - or would it be "Six Pieds Sous LA Terre"?

Bon matin!

You guys were talking about Trading Spaces while I was sleeping. Bad, bad!

I watched Hildy's bathroom episode tonight. Not only was it horrid, but how will the home owners get rid of it. She staple-gunned 6000 ugly flowers to their wallpaper. They will never get it off.

She is a hoot though. And that pink couch episode (that they re-ran on Christmas Day) was HERS! Of course.

Laurie was back last night with her new baby. So cute. She is definitely one of the best.

To the person who said that you are safe if you get Doug. Hello, are you nuts? While Doug is definitely better now than he used to be, he has done some crazy things.

Edward is okay. He did better on the last show. Kia is a nut. She uses wallpaper trim everywhere, which I hate. Frank seems nice to work with. But he's too country for me. Did you see that horrible orange room he did on Christmas Day? Yuck. He mixed orange, purple, green and red.

Okay I'm addicted to this show. I need to stop now.
