"ROCKIN' NEW YEAR'S EVE"

Photo of Bruce Kimmel

bk's notes II

Well, dear readers, I can’t believe it. And yet, it is true, so I must believe it. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I can’t believe it, pinch me to see if I am awake – oh, a Bricusse and Newley reference. And just what in tarnation is it that I can’t and yet must believe? Why, it is the simple fact that this, Tuesday, is the final day of the year 2002. And what a year it was. A roller coaster ride to rival the finest at any theme park. And we will be both celebrating and hurling the occasional brickbat while we look back at the year that was. This, dear readers, is the only site on all the Internet that you will need to peruse on this most unusual day. And why is that? Well, I’ll tell you why because to withhold such information from you would be unseemly and would mark me a wazoo. And while I may be many things to many people, I am a wazoo to no one. I’m going to do today’s notes in a most unusual fashion (pink cashmere sweater and pedal-pushers) – I will be adding to them via posts as they day goes by. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Tonight, of course, we will be having our rockin’ New Year’s Eve celebration right here at haineshisway.com. Here, where it is safe and sound and where you may drink as much Diet Coke as you please and then not have to worry about a designated driver. We will, of course, be having cheese slices and ham chunks, we will be wearing our pointy rockin’ New Year’s Eve party hats, our colored tights and pantaloons and we will dance the Hora and also the Herky Jerky. Oh, what fun we shall be having, as we put away the old and bring in the new.

So, let us all click on the Unseemly Button below as we reminisce about 2002.

First of all, we all survived. That is a good thing. We’ve survived many obstacles although said obstacles were hurled mightily and often in our paths. We’ve survived uncouth interlopers, we’ve survived those who tried their hardest to destroy us, we’ve survived merry searchers, and the fact is, we will always strive to survive because that is the way to stay alive and we must always be stayin’ alive, stayin’ alive – oh, a Bee Gees reference. The roller coaster ride was amazing – the ups, the downs, the twists, the turns – why it was enough to make anyone throw up. The highs were highs and the lows were lows, but as long as we can somehow appreciate the highs and learn from and move on from the lows then things will always be fine.

What am I, Deepak Chopra all of a sudden? Or is it Tupac Chopra. Or is it Sixpack Deepak? I’ve survived Luckie thus far, and she has survived me thus far. She has a new thing she likes to do – while I am sleeping she likes to go into the den where I have a Web TV keyboard (don’t ask) which I keep on the coffee table, and she likes to knock it to the ground. She gets great satisfaction from doing so, it just tickles her pink (no mean feat).

So, I promised you my end-of-year bests and I will be doing that via posts if only I can think of films and theater bests this year. CDs, no problem at all. For me, personally, the highs have been finishing my second novel, doing the Nudie Musical DVD, and then doing the adaptation for the stage, making a deal to make my upcoming film (all will be revealed regarding that the second week of January), and meeting some of you Hainsies/Kimlets in the flesh. Another high was directing the Tourette’s Syndrome benefit, and I’m looking forward to doing it again in March. Another high is this here website and all of you dear readers. I love our little home here and though we had a couple of sticky wickets, we survived those, too.

The last half of this year has been a healing process for me, and one that will continue (at least financially) for some time to come. As you know, I was unnecessarily put through quite an ordeal and such ordeals don’t come cheaply. But we move on, we heal, and it takes the time it takes. As I’ve said before, a couple of people have suggested I’m bitter and humorless about it all, and I suggest that had those people gone through the very same thing, the exact same thing, they would know what bitter and humorless really is. Anyone who knows me knows I never ever went to the bitter place – if I had done so it would have been the end of me. And humorless? Please. If it wasn’t for my sense of humor (which is readily apparent if you read the archives – even in the blackest of moments) it would also have been the end of me. No, I wasn’t always happy about what was being done to me, and screamed and yelled occasionally in the privacy of my own residence, but my public face has never been a bitter or humorless one. Those who think otherwise simply don’t know me or haven’t “gotten” the tone of these notes (which I know sometimes is difficult when one is just reading words). When one is put through the ringer there is an emotional cost no matter what the outcome. Those doing the ringing don’t care about the cost, but I believe in karma and I believe everything will be put right in the end.

Enough looking back. Looking forward is ever so much more interesting. And I am looking forward to many things, as I hope you are. We have many new and exciting things coming to haineshisway.com this year, so you must keep on coming, and while you’re at it, tell your friends and neighbors, tell the man in the street and the lady in the powder room – here is where it’s at. We are cool, man, cool, we are happening, we are in with the in crowd, we are the ginchiest. Are we jiggy with that? Yes, we are the jiggiest. Do you know that when I type the word “jiggiest” that Word automatically changes it to “jaggiest”? Damn them, damn them all to hell. Where was I? Oh, yes, we are jiggy. That’s what I’m talkin’ about.

So, let me start my bests with CDs. So many that have given me joy this year – none more so than the wonderful Michel Legrand box set I got from amazon.com France. It is a superb set filled with terrific tracks, some of them quite rare. The Percy Faith two-fers have rarely been out of my player – especially The Most Happy Fella and the Subways are for Sleeping ones. Delectable. Favorite cast album – the reissue of Li’l Abner – brilliant and delightful as ever and sounding great, too. I also enjoyed my friend Lisa Richard’s new album, Virgin Tracks, and not just because she included a song of mine. I’m sure I’ll remember a few others as the day goes on, and I will be posting my other bests all throughout the day, too.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must write as much Nudie as I can today (yesterday I did twenty count them twenty pages) and it’s time to get this rockin’ party on the road. If I were you (and I am) I’d check back at least once an hour because there will be surprises galore, posts galore and a good time will be had by all. Today’s topic of discussion: What is one of your New Year’s resolutions? Post away, my pretties and let’s make this a day and night to remember.

To BK and everyone out there in HHW's cyberspace, a healthy and happy New Year.

Posted by steveg @ 12/31/2002 09:27 AM PST

Unless my eyes deceive me, I am the first!

My resolutions include:
1) Be less errant and truant here. I really love the community, and there is no excuse for my frequent absences.
2) To continue growing as an actor, not resting on my laurels.
3) To be less unpleasant when things don't go my way, and to treat better those whom I love, particularly my parents.
4) Get into better health and shape.
5) To continue protesting injustice and prejudice wherever I see it.

Oh! Deceived by the vagaries of cyberspace!

Posted by Hapgod @ 12/31/2002 09:31 AM PST

Though I am often errant and occasionally truant, that does not deter the fact that I wish all who visit this happy place (an Uncle Walt reference) the healthiest, most joyous and most prosperous New Year's possible! Especially our dear BK, who makes it all possible, and Mr. Mark Bakalor, who makes BK possible.

Posted by Philip Crosby @ 12/31/2002 09:37 AM PST

My New Year's resolution - well, at least one of them, but I think this one kind of "blankets" all the rest:

To realize those times in my day, my week, my life, when I DO need to devote some time to myself and my well-being, and to NOT feel guilty about being "selfish" for doing so. As the exchange in Merrily We Roll Along goes, not to keep making the same one mistake over and over again: Saying, "Yes," when I wanted to say, "No."

I hope all of you out there - including our many overseas readers like Tom from OZ and Francois - have a wonderful New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. *And I think Tom is probably the first one of us to celebrate already!

Now it's off to the post office to get some end of the year postmarks put on some important mail. See you throughout the day!

December 31st. While we are still lollying around in 2002, our friends in Japan are already frolicing in 2003.

This day has always been for me a way station, a meaningful period of transition between two years. It is a time for reflection, on the year that's passed, on the path that I've traversed to come to where I am today. It's a time for introspection, to examine and reexamine my soul's searchings. And it's a time for contemplation, looking ahead to a new year with new and renewed hopes and dreams for a bright tomorrow.

As 2002 draws to a close, I am grateful for many things: I am grateful for good health. I am grateful for my wonderful children, who are the joys of my life. I am grateful for good friends. I am grateful for the wonderful gift of music. I am grateful for awe-inspiring sunsets and the breathtaking beauty of nature's bounty. And I am grateful to be here to enjoy it.

To everyone, I wish Good Health, Happiness, and Prosperity in 2003. May your vision of tomorrow become a reality today.

I too, would like to wish all those at HHW a healthy, happy and prosperous New Year--this annum certainly has had its ups and downs, and I wish to commend Bruce on his fortitude in the face of extreme adversity these past twelve months. Speaking as someone who experienced similar turbulence, albeit not quite as traumatic, (you can hear Bruce and I joking about our troubles on the Nudie Musical commentary tracks), I can certainly attest to how well Bruce has done in keeping his bitterness meter to the minimum. It's incredibly hard to do, and I hope none of you ever have to be on the wrong end of such punitive and ridiculous action as was administered to Bruce. Fortunately, his talent always wins out in the end, and his 2003 will be significantly brighter owing to a slew of terrific upcoming projects. I know your support has meant a great deal to him, and kept his spirits high. Thanks for doing that, and making HHW the happening place it is.

Well I for one have to add SUSAN EGAN's "So Far" to one of my favorite releases of the year....

HAPPY NEW YEAR!! May 2003 be the "it" year for all of us.

My resolutions: 1)Audition more. 2) Get at least one performing job post-MOBY DICK. 3) Go on a date, even if it's not with the Doctor. 4) Make a little more money. 5) Take better care of myself. 6) Meet Mr. Bruce Kimmel and some of my other Hainesie/Kimlet family members.

Thanks for making so much of 2002 wonderful for me. I hope that 2003 is even better--for all of us! HUZZAH!

Happy New Year to all the cyber friends I have made on this here site. I resolve to finally finish getting all my CDs, DVDs, radio shows etc. catalogued as soon as possible.

We are ROCKIN'. Am firmly into Act Two of Nudie and having fun reimagining (but not too much) for the stage.

Favorite films: The truth is I have seen very little this year, and I disliked most of what I saw. That said, I enjoyed Minority Report and Blood Work, the first ten minutes of Goldmember were great.

And a special thank you to every Hainsie/Kimlet for making this site the best there is.

And another special thank you to Mr. Nick Redman - who did indeed go through a very similar gut-wrenching experience as I did. We are both here to tell the tale, so there you are.

2003! Hard to believe, but it is nearly upon us.

The last day of the year has hit me on the head with the worst cold EVER. I am lying in my suffering and hopefully will feel better tomorrow.

Of course, that means I am staying home tonight and that's okay, too.

Resolutions? Hmmmmm....do some theatre stuff and revive a career that was rather dormant this year. And in fact - work enough to get the hours to finally get my Equity card. We shall see.

Happy Happy, everyone!

Posted by Jrand55 @ 12/31/2002 11:54 AM PST

Happy Almost New Years!!!

My number one resolution is to be sure to set aside time for myself with an attmept to create sanitiy.

Second resolution is to post more on HHW to be less errant and truant.

Have a great evening everyone, we have our last perfromance of "Annie" and a big New years eve bash with the cast, friends and family, and then I'm off to Disneyland for 4 marvelous days so I won't be able to post. (great way to start!)

Posted by Matthew @ 12/31/2002 11:59 AM PST

uhhh.. did I mention Susan Egan? LOL..

Sorry.. but you all know I would pay to hear her read the phonebook!

So... what's a good New Year's movie to watch tonight?

My office is just a half block off the Rose Parade route in Pasadena, and lemme tell you, the nuts are out in force. Now that it is past noon, people have already staked out their spots on the sidewalks and will be spending the next 22 hours or so on cold, cold pavement. Yes, my friends, people actually spend the night on the sidewalks to watch the parade. I just have to guess that there are more people without TVs than I realized!

Happy New Year to all! Ditto with Bruce on the roller coaster ride. My Mom (and Best Friend) passing away was definitely a low point. I did not have many high points, but was able to cut loose at a Cher concert. tee hee hee Thanks for giving me a year of laughs!

And since I just got back from the post office... -Jrand55, you should have something (plus some extras) by the end of the week - hope you feel better!

May we all have some more patience and good humor. It always amazes me watching people in line - especially a line that actually is moving - but never seems to move fast enough. When I got in line with my three packages, there were at least 15 people in front of me. Then I overheard some lady make some disparaging remark about the desk clerks while she was waiting in line at the new self-service machine.

Well, by the time the lady in front of that lady was finished with her stuff, I was already handing over my debit card to pay for my postage. And as I was walking out, I noticed just how weary some of the people in line looked. Hey, the line was/is moving. It's a relatively friendly post office location. And it was prime post office time, so, of course, there's going to be a line. Enjoy the time! Be thankful you can wait!

Happy New Year to one and all and also all and one! I will be leaving soon to serenade soon-to-be-drunk (and probably more than a few "already-theres") revelers. But I shall return before midnight to check these here notes.

Speaking of notes, my resolution is not to have my head explode when my FRIGGING (family site after all) notation software goes bonkers for no apparent reason, as it did this morning. I am toiling away at finishing the piano-vocal score of my musical, and was working on the big choral number of Act I (six part vocal harmonies), when the program started deleting lyrics, willy-nilly. It was the strangest thing yet this very strange program has done. A superhuman amount of patience (and deleting previously entered lyrics) later, I got the fershlugunah thing finished. But the smoke is still dribbling out of my ears. :)

More posts, more posts. Soylent Green is people. Favorite television show - The Sopranos - of course it's the ONLY television show I watch.

Many great DVDs this year - including the spectacular Beauty and the Beast, the spectacular Juliet of the Spirits, The King of Comedy, the Carry On set, the Cliff Richard set - it's been a bountiful DVD year. More in a bit.

Bruce -

you left out... AI.. and Back to the Future.. and The First Nudie Musical (sure you put it in your top 5 things you did, but not this list)...

more later from me too.. I am sitting down to sup

Posted by Craig @ 12/31/2002 03:20 PM PST

For JRand..Can anyone back me up and say that Trude Rittman was a man? Wasn't he/she the dance arrangement king/queen in the 40's/50's/60's? Or was that someone else?

Posted by Matthew @ 12/31/2002 03:32 PM PST

Trude Rittman was a woman and was the very talebted dance arranger who among other accomplishments did The Small House of Uncle Thomas Ballet for the King and I.

Well, I just finished carving the pumpkin and we're just getting ready to go to the soup-tasting party.

And after doing Small House of Uncle Thomas she mentioned to Richard Rodgers that she should be given some kind of royalty arrangement...whereupon Richard told her:
"Listen, Trude, it's Rodgers and Hammerstein NOT Rittman and Hammerstein." 8-(

Not to be a spoiled sport, but I do not make New Year's Resolutions.

But I will finish The Unofficial Bruce Kimmel Music Appreciation Website.

I have so far finished the Vocals, Jazz, film, and the background on the Bay Cities, Varese Sarabande and the FA ventures. Each CD page has photo of the CD cover and who worked on the album. There are links to the artist's website or Biography pages that using information that I have collected from the WWW. I have searched for pictures of the musicians and background singers so one can put a face to the artists. There are also reviews and related articles about the albums. It has been a gran undertaking and I have enjoyed myself doing it.

Once that is done I will go back and rewrite my two screenplays I finished last year and start one new one that I have planned out this past fall.

Posted by Michael @ 12/31/2002 03:55 PM PST

I don't make new years resolutions either Michael.. well. That's not exactly true. Basically I make the same one every year and that is..

To live the next year even better than the year before..

So far I haven't failed..

A warning to all...
E-mail viruses are spreading
again through some
Hainsie/Kimlet address book.
In the last 36 hours I have
recieved two of them, claiming
to have been sent by Dear
Readers Mark Rothman and
Pam Spitzner, and my name
appeared on one sent to Dear
Reader Phil Essex... but
seeing as how Phil is not even
in my address book, I'm
guessing someone's address
book has been corrupted to
provide sending and receiving
addresses. Beware!

As for New Year's, I'm with
Michael and Craig in that I've
never been one for resolutions
(except, of course, for the
proper resolutions of
dissonent suspensions and
appogiaturas in counterpoint
exercises).

Tonight I shall be attending a
New Year's party combined
with a "the divorce is finally
final" party for a good friend of
mine.

Happiest of 2003's to one and
all, all and one.

Now, I do know that some of you will be celebrating New Year's before we do here on the West Coast. So, we'll have two count them two celebrations, although, if I were you (and I am) I would stay up until it's midnight Pacific Mean Time, just because.

I wish all of you a very Happy, safe, healthy and prosperous New Year. I hope everyone's wishes come true, and yes, I still believe in fairy tales and happily ever after--a cockeyed optimist.

I try not to make resolutions because I don't aim high--just the continuance of self-preservation and enjoyment of The Arts. I will, however, do a major house-cleaning this coming month and some redecorating I've been promising myself.

I am off to make this 116-lb blonde gorgeous for the evening.
It takes longer and longer. Please, everyone, if you are out and about, drive safely...and many more New Years to come. Thank you BK, for getting me here, and I would love to meet you.

I don't know exactly how it started, but, every New Year's Eve, it has been my tradition to watch the Roz Russell GYPSY. I'm not a resolution maker, but like Tevye, I believe in certain traditions, and GYPSY is being watched right now.
HAPPY NEW YEAR to the Ozzies and Kiwis!
HAPPY NEW YEAR to the Londoners!
HAPPY NEW YEAR to the Parisians!
HAPPY NEW YEAR to the Titanic!

Do heed Michael's double warning, although I don't think any true Hainsie/Kimlet would endanger themselves or others in that way. We are a caring lot, aren't we? And do you know what else we are? We are rockin'. We are a happening thing. What a bash. I have never attended a better New Year's Eve party. I'm having my third Diet Coke of the day, I've supped (and cheated just a little by having chips with the spinach artichoke dip - everything else was Atkins-friendly) and am home for good. All is well, and let's have more posts and hear what you're doing right this very minute.

Good evening! Just got in from the show. Good crowd for New Year's Eve - not too drunk. ;-)

Well, as it turns out, I will be celebrating quietly with my parents - my mother has come down with the weird stomach bug that has been making the rounds in this area. -They left the New Year's Eve dance they were attending early. So.. The Domino's Pizza(!) should be here in a few!

I haven't decided on my resolutuions yet. Last year, I said that there were certain things I wanted to do (never expecting to do them all in my lifetime, let alone in one year). And you know what? I did them all--- and MORE!!!!!

So, this year I have decided that I have several things I'd like to accomplish in the next year to five years. I haven't decided which ones will be for this year.

Among them are:

More skydiving.

Learn to scubadive (and get certified)

Take a fencing class (and yes, Sandra, I will expect you to help me practice)

Take a few sign language classes

Take a dance class (ballet perhaps)

Take some more yoga classes first (for mind and body and to prepare for the balllet class)

Take some more art classes

Do some more volunteer work

Get to New York again

Get to Los Angeles again.

Meet more of you HHW friends.

Get some money to pay for all these things.

I wish you all the best and hope 2003 brings wonderful things for us all.

2002 had some of the best and some of the worst moments of my life. I suppose each year is like that, but the highs were a lot higher and the lows a lot lower in 2002. But it was all worth it--- because here I am. And I'm still here (a Sondheim reference).

Cake for everybody!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by Kerry @ 12/31/2002 08:33 PM PST

My goodness, it's getting close to East Coast New Year, isn't it? A mere twenty count them twenty minutes. How many cheese slices have you all had? How many ham chunks? How much Diet Coke have you consumed? Are you wearing your rockin' New Year's Eve pointy party hats? Your colored tights and pantaloons? These are the questions that need answering right this very minute, you revelers you.

Posted by bk @ 12/31/2002 08:35 PM PST

As for what I'm doing, every plan I had for this evening has gone awry and astray and even akimbo. Who knows how the evening will turn out?

Posted by Kerry @ 12/31/2002 08:35 PM PST

Well, about 12 minutes or so until the "right coast" greets 2003!

-The Domino's Pizza guy came really fast, and I've already downed my third slice of pizza - with what has become my "traditional New Year's Eve pizza" - a medium with sausage and jalapeno peppers!!! -It's actually quite good. -And I splurged on the Buffalo Chicken Kickers - which are actually hot.

So, I'm watching Dick Clark and laughing at the "live - prerecorded portions from Las Vegas". Always makes me laugh - oh, and a question that I've always wondered about crossed my mind... Do they time delay Dick Clark on the West Coast - or other time zones? Just always wondered that...

-And who is the "nobody" who is hosting this year? Never seen her before....

HAPPY NEW YEAR EAST COAST HAINSIES/KIMLETS. May the new year bring nothing but the BEST in all ways. Now onto midnight here on the other coast - and central standard time too. We are rockin'.

HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL!!!!

I just finished my round of calls (and got many myself).

For those in other time zones, here's a spoiler alert...
It's 2003!!!!

Rockin' away here!

-I finally had to give up on Dick Clark. -Do they still broadcast that classic clip of Barry Manilow singing "Another New Year's Eve"? So I'm watching the rebroadcast of the Caroline Rhea show on FoxFamily - and it's the first time I've seen it.

In the meantime, I'm having a blast watching my brothers two dogs, Iki - a chihuahua, and Manchita - a mutt with a touch of dalmation in him - play with each other and with some of their new Christmas chew toys. Quite amusing actually.

-And I think I'm done with the pizza for the evening - should make a great breakfast!

Ok you wascally west coasters... I am off to bed. I shall not be partaking of any more ham chunks or cheese slices. I shall attempt to celebrate with you all via my dreams though. Tomorrow I shall post and tell you if I was successful.

I look forward to BK's Notes #425 tomorrow, January 1st, 2003. PADIDDLE!!!!

Less than two count them two hours. It's getting exciting here on the West Coast. And, of course, we are rockin'.

Gee I haven't posted since last year.

We're about half way between the New Year here and the New Year on the West Coast meaning what I am posting in 2003 will be read by some people in 2002. We just got back from a party in our building. Good food (including ham and cheese in various forms), good drink (including Diet Coke), no pointy hats but noisemakers, and most important conversation almost as interesting as on this here site. At Midnight we watched New York 1 (the All News Station) showing all the idiots in Times Square (they cancelled all Broadway shows to let these nuts in the area and so the actors wouldn't have to fight their way home) and then after a short while we came home, took the dog out for her first walk of the year and are now getting ready for bed.

Happy New Year to all Hainsies and Kimlets! May this site grow even bigger and better in 2003 and may all of BK's project be big hits.

*And my niece just rolled herself over for the first time! Great start to 2003!

We're but forty-five minutes away from a brand spanking New Year - man, is the joint rockin' - but where oh where are our Pacific Mean Time Hainsies/Kimlets? Well, I have done my contemplation and I have high hopes for the coming year, very high hopes.

I'll be back shortly.

I don't make resolutions. Other than to resolve to not make resolutions. That's me, the unresolving resolutioner. Wait, I have one: I resolve to post this last time before the end of the year of 2002!

I just got back from my sister's. We (my sister, her daughter, my sister's boyfriend and I) went out to dinner at a seafood place here in Olympia. I don't like seafood unless it's breaded, deep fried, wrapped in blue paper and served from inside two golden arches. (Yes, I know...I'm weird that way!) What I did have was a chicken almond salad that was most delicious. It had chicken and almonds (duh) in and amongst a bunch of lettuce pieces, ramen noodles, and some kind of vinegar (but no oil) dressing. It was very, very, very good (that's three verys). Dessert consisted of the "Chocolate Melting Cake." It's to die for! There was much chocolate (and it did "melt" from the center), ice cream and fresh raspberry topping, made to order.

So now I'm at home in my apartment listening to the people above me pound on the floor as they run all over the place with their loud music. I really don't mind it at all. It's the season for it.

As far as wishes for each and all Hainsies/Kimlets in the world: DITTO TO EVERYTHING EVERYONE HAS ALREADY SAID!! I cannot add to the sentiment. It would probably just sound awkward and repetitive. However, I would like to say that HHW is the most fun site on the Internet and the only place worth visiting on a daily basis!

We just got back from the soup-tasting party. We brought matzo ball soup and gazpacho soup using Uncle Arnie's recipe. Mmmm! There's nothing like piping hot gazpacho soup to welcome a new year.

Nine minutes to go and you west-coast Hainsies and Kimlets (including the leader of the pack, BK!) will finally catch up with us on the east coast who are already three hours (less nine minutes, of course!) into 2003!

(How's that for a run on sentence run on sentence run on sentence!)

I love you all madly and I'll be back here in the morning with the first notes of 2003.

Happy New Year to all you Hainsie/Kimlets on the West Coast! It's about time you caught up with the rest of the country! Teehee!!

Where is Mark Bakalor when you need him? The clocks at HHW are off by six minutes.

Happy New Year! I'd like to make a toast. Maybe cinnamon raisin with cream cheese.

Francois, would you like to make a French toast?

Let me see if I have this right. Le quel est, poisson?

BK, your clock is wrong.

HAP-------------PY NEW YEAR!!!!

Posted by George @ 01/01/2003 12:00 AM PST

And a Happy New Year from old England. It's well into New Years Day now and I have a glass of champagne in my hand (OK, it's Cava, but don't tell anyone) and a goose in the oven - thanks to a random act of kindness from a stranger. I was in our local supermarket last night and they were selling off fresh geese at half price. Unfortunately, someone had got the last one just before me and he had three of them in his trolley. I asked him if he'd seen any more lying around and he said no. But then a few minutes later he came over and put one of them in my trolley, saying he didn't need all the ones he'd taken.
So thank you kind sir, whoever you are (I bet he's a HHW reader, he was so kind!).
May 2003 be a good one to you all.
