I have SEVERAL things to rant about -
!. People who get on the subway/bus with bicycles! Why don't they just RIDE THEIR BIKES to wherever they are going?!
2. Idiots who walk down the street looking at their PDA's/electronic organizers, ignoring and bumping into everyone else around them! (the same with cell phones, some people get so engrossed in the phone conversation, that they don't even realize where they are walking! Rude bastards!)
3. President Bush ('nuff said!)
4. People who are on an "Asian health kick", who believe eating copious amounts of garlic for breakfast, lunch and dinner is healthy for their heart. Well, it might do wonders for their cardiovascular systems, but I'll bet it's ruining their social life! (in other words, THEY STINK TO HIGH HEAVEN!)
5. Record producers (unlike our wonderful BK) who think when a film is released all the public wants is a soundtrack - i.e. the compilation of pop songs used in the film - but never bother to release the film SCORE!
Well, I could go on, but I think that's enough for now. Unless of course you all want me to continue (I could probably come up with dozens more rants!).

Re: weather forecasting
I find that I am more accurate in predicting the local weather than the forecasters as far as rain and clouds by whether or not I have a headache.
Re: rants
Professional people who don't do their jobs due to laziness or incompetence. Otherwise I am a very patient person.
Additional rant: Ministers with un-minister-like attitudes.
I'm sure I'll think of more, but now Dear Reader Sandra and I have to leave -- we are seeing the tour of "Swing" this afternoon.

I want to rant about people
ANYWHERE complaining
about weatherforecasters;
Weatherforecasting is NOT a
"sure science" AND, 9 times
out of 10, when they're "wrong"
it's IN OUR FAVOR !!!!
They said "rain" and it's
SUNNY, so where's the
problem....
What about POLITICIANS who
keep lying to us more than we
can for ??????
And they NEVER apologize!
Darn them, darn them all to
hell, i say !!
I can live WITHOUT
weatherforecasters; i don't
care about the
weatherforecast, period.
"Whatever will be will be !"
Boy, i'm good at ranting, hey

As anybody else listen to the
sound bites to "BELIEVE"

I hate the fact that movie trailers all use the same music to push their product. Thus, you hear these pieces over and over and over until you just want to rip your ears right off your skull.
I do not want to hear the strains of "Bad to the Bone," "Born to be Bad," "Mannish Boy," "Walking on Sunshine," or "Ode to Joy" ever, ever again. That's right...they managed to ruin Beethoven's 9th Symphony for me, the rotten, lousy so-and-so's.
Posted by Lulu @ 04/12/2003 01:04 PM PST
I obviously have Joan Fontaine on the brain...for "Born to be Bad" substitute "Born to Be Wild." :)
Posted by Lulu @ 04/12/2003 01:05 PM PST
Well, the weather forecasters, as usual, are now predicting twenty percent chance of rain this evening without acknowledging that for the last four days they've said it was going to pour all weekend. It's now eighty degrees out.
Posted by bk @ 04/12/2003 01:10 PM PST
Forgot to mention that Vera Zorina died. I never knew that after she divorced Balenchine she married Goddard Liberson, the best pre-BK producer of OBC albums.
Posted by William E. Lurie @ 04/12/2003 01:12 PM PST
Lulu - If they would wait until the movie was finished before making the trailers they could use music from the actual film. Unfortunately most trailers you see nowadays (oh - a Kander & Ebb reference) are for movies that won't even open for six months to a year as opposed to the old style trailer of what was coming next to that theatre.
Posted by William E. Lurie @ 04/12/2003 01:14 PM PST
I blame technology (or rather the over-reliance on it) for the incorrect weather forecasting. Before we had all this Doppler Radar crap, forecasters had to rely on their schooling and knowledge of weather systems in order to forecast what was to come. Nowadays they've all gotten soft and rely way too much on all the technological gadgetry. (oh, this turned into another rant!)

BK's rain is now in the SF Bay Area, pouring pouring pouring. Ugh, can't someone invent something to protect glasses from rain? Am I the only one that likes the musical "Titanic"? The score, anyway. Trying to get people to produce is a pain because everyone is so jaded by that horribly staged National Tour that was out there. Even though I saw it twice. I'm trying to rant, but I just can't. I just hope I'm not over my orchestra budget for "The Boy Friend" it was bad enough I had to nix the second violin and the guitar/banjo and took over the keyboards myself. When are we going to get community theatre producers to understand to have good music for a show, you have to hire good musicians, and good musicians cost good money. I lucked out and hired three excellent brass players from a local high school, but still, even though they are teens, they deserve what the pro's get if they play as well. Ok, there, I've ranted.
Posted by Matthew @ 04/12/2003 02:18 PM PST
I found that rain you're
supposed to have down in LA,
BK. It's been falling on my very
own roof, and I would assume
also on the roofs of
neighboring houses, for about
4 hours now.
BTW (by the way, in internet
lingo), the forecast here was
for mostly sunny skies all day.
Posted by Jed @ 04/12/2003 02:21 PM PST
I really liked TITANIC The Musical. I saw the NYC production so I have no idea how they did the national tour (I suspect the multi-level set wasn't used), but I kept thinking at the time I saw it that the show didn't really HAVE to have that elaborate set. It could work with lit portions of the stage used for the various floors in the ship. The score is just too good to not produce just because the NYC set was so elaborate.
Don't mention RAIN. Today is the first sunny day we've had since last Sunday. We plunged back into winter last week with temps not coming out of the 40s (very cold for the SOuth; we're used to April weather in the 70s like it was today) and buckets of rain every day (We must have had 5 inches of rain last week). My grass was almost a foot high today, so I was forced to mow. Ugh. One of my least favorite chores in the world.
Posted by Matt H. @ 04/12/2003 02:29 PM PST
At least you guys got to see a production of "Titanic". I don't think anyone will ever do it here in OZ. The score is terrific but then I am MY fan. Hope my MY Cd arrives this coming week.
I wonder if the European version of Titanic is still touring - Last heard of in Holland.
We are never happy! Please send excess rain to Australia. Our water storages are really in dire need.
Posted by Tom Guest @ 04/12/2003 03:58 PM PST
Rain, Rain, go away! HA HA What about snow in April? And in all places -- California. Damn those weather forecasters, damn them all! Now, how is that for a rant?
Ann, see you at Stritch. I'll be in the one with the twinkle in my eye.

My rants: 1) People who can't spell. There is a simple difference between to, too and two. Those of you who don't know it, learn it. (And I mean it, too.)
2) People who use apostrophes to indicate plurals. Adding 's to the end of a noun or proper name indicates a possessive, NOT A PLURAL. The morons who do this need to CUT IT OUT RIGHT G.D. NOW!!!!
3) Thanks to Web/MSN TV, I am unable to join in the Live Chats you have here. You seem to be an intelligent, friendly bunch and I'd like to join in.
I don't think it's fair.
I have many more rants, but no more time.

My mind is now spinning François.
I am listening to the wonderful Peggy Lee at present.
I hand fed an Australian magpie this morning. That is living dangerously. Beautiful black and white birds with a lovely song BUT they can swoop and attack people when threatened (nesting season is hell in some places - often you need to carry a stick with you!). I think our local birds all know I am friendly and that this is very much a cat free zone.
At least I am posting!

Saturday night is the loneliest night of the week. What can do on a Saturday night alone?
It seems everyone is out of town (B J Thomas reference - can't remember the writer).
I guess that we should be pleased that everyone is busy and not alone.
It is of course early Sunday afternoon here. My Saturday night was spent at a big fat Greek wedding with Lainie Kazan.
I have just ordered the Peggy Lee "Singles" collection. Hooray!

Callou callay! We are having sprinkles in Long Beach! And I do not mean the little things that make ice cream fancier. I refer to precipitation, or if you would rather, rain!
It's nice to know that the weather forcasters can perform their jobs appropriately, even if it is not in a timely manner.

Just finished watching the restored VERTIGO. Oh, what a beautiful movie it is with the restored video and audio. The new 5.1 sound didn't bother me a bit. I know some are real purists when it comes to replicating original mono soundtracks in older movies, but this was done so beautifully that it just enhanced the moviegoing experience for me. BTW, I watched it on laserdisc since the DVD isn't anamorphically encoded. It still looked stunning.

No rants from me, I'm trying to maintain un attitude positif!
I am a fan of Maury Yeston's TITANIC, having seen it in New York and listening to the recordings. If you get the chance, get a hold of the stunning Dutch recording! I play it more often than the OBC.

Today, I have been helping my sister, her boyfriend and her daugher (my niece) in taking cut up tree and shrub branches to the landfill for composting. We took four pick-up truck loads today and will still have to take at least another five or six tomorrow. Ugh.
Well, right now, I'm going to watch (or at least start to watch) "Racquet" that I won on eBay, starring our own Bruce Kimmel! It just arrived! It's an old tape and a lot heavier than most tapes you get nowadays (a Kander and Ebb reference).
As for the topic of the day, I've never been one to rant, so I won't. Don't even ask me. So, there.

RANT! RANT! RANT!
Not really in a ranting mode today. A simply beautiful day here in Richmond. The sun came out as promised, and it got warmer than forecasted. I think we hit at least 70! And I ran two miles. Felt soooo good to get outside again after a week of cold and gray and rainy weather.
I also happened to get together today with Barbara Walsh - I think she's recorded for BK (???) - and her husband, Jack Cummings. I've done a few shows with Jack - he's a director - and it was great seeing both of them again. We had a very nice visit.
And we had another sold out night at Hair! -They've been turning away about 40 people each night. And we also had the ACTF judge there tonight. He really liked the show and had some great feedback and criticism. AND we finally had band monitors throughout the WHOLE show!!! YEAH!!!!!
-Well, I guess I have been ranting... well, raving at least..
I could rant about something, but just not in that mode, and don't want to go there right now...
Besides, I'm baking tonight!

Oh -- and inside my Playbill for "Swing!" were photos of no other than our very own Brent Barrett and Judy Kaye.
Posted by Laura @ 04/12/2003 09:46 PM PST
I am also a fan of TITANIC the musical. I saw the National Tour and was not impressed, but the score is lovely.
I was fortunate enough to assistant direct a production of TITANIC at my community theatre, and it was *very* well-received. The producers who are afraid to stage it should be aware that the public fascination with all things Titanic all but guarantees a hit. Our production played to full houses for nearly all performances, selling nearly 10,000 tickets.
Just got back from a party, so I'm in a good mood. No rants from me tonight...
Posted by Dave @ 04/12/2003 09:47 PM PST
So, Kurt & Jack... Saw the show twice today?
Did you like it?
*I will say, it has one of the best star drops I've ever seen. And I love the little hanging lamps. And, of course, the fasion show is lots of fun.

-Guess I'm making up for lost time.. and all these other "late posters"...
What a Trading Spaces tonight! Forget what the rooms ended up looking like - at least both couples really liked their new rooms. However, the journey there was quite a journey. Lots of setbacks on both sides. One of the couples had to put a new wall in since there was so much water damage to one of the existing walls. And then when the lamp got dropped... by the designer! Quite fun TV!
-Time for me to retire to the kitchen now... OH, Iron Chef... Hmmm...

OK - What gives?
It's almost 4:00AM here (Richmond, VA, that is), and I'm still up and wired(!!). Plus, I haven't even started baking! I was going to make a cheesecake - this way it would have time to chill overnight, but nooooo... haven't even taken out a bowl. However, I did put the cream cheese out to soften... Well.. I think I'm just going to go to bed in a little bit, and get up in a few hours and go from there. I do have brownies and cookies, so if I don't show up with a cheesecake... ah, well..
-Oh, so was that rant?
And thank you François for "correcting" my French. Merci beaucoup! So, could there be "amantes amandes"? Hmm.. that could be very interesting. -I vaguely remember a Debussy mélodie "Les deux amantes" - ????

Okay here's my rant.
On last night's Trading Spaces, Hildy WHAT WERE YOU THINKING???????
Posted by Jennifer @ 04/13/2003 06:41 AM PST
Oh yes, it was a wonderful day. Beautiful weather...Cajun lunch...AIDA....Drinks...and---AIDA again!!!!
Jose - we sent word to Cosmo but they were having a hot dog cookout between shows and things were a bit hectic - maybe he got the "hello"!
The physical production was stunning. The songs were good - the music great. Some of the lyrics were a bit lost, and the dancing was not so great, unfortuntately. The choreography looked better the second time. We are still not sure if it was our more expensive - albeit FREE - seats, or cocktails!
Standby AIDA at 2 pm....billed AIDA at 8 pm. Both with different qualities. Amneris hilarious - Radames young and handsome....Mickey Dolenz, well he gets the funniest looks from everyone he meets. Singing in a nice theatre voice NOT a pop voice, but his acting was a bit - well - bad.
ANYWAY if you haven't seen AIDA, go.
I too enjoyed TITANIC:THE MUSICAL. I am not sure I want to see it anywhere but New York. It is a hard show to build and those songs are NOT easy to sing or play. So I send good wishes to anyone attempting it!
Okay....auditions for SOUTH PACIFIC today...hopefully I will be home in time for chat.
Oh, and Mr BK, actually you have 4 H/K headed for LA in the next few weeks!
