"THE SWARM"

bk's notes II

Well, dear readers, I must keep these here notes short and sweet which, I suppose, is better than keeping them long and sour. For you see, I slept late and now I must get ready for today’s book signing. The reason I slept late is that I had one of those nights. Yes, you heard it here, dear readers, I had one of those nights, one of those nights where my brain was abuzz with thoughts and ideas and I didn’t fall asleep until three in the morning. However, some good came from the brain being abuzz with thoughts and ideas and I think I solved two count them two things I was having problems with in the current Kritzer book. So, it was worth it, but now I must hurry because I slept late.

One thing I can say is that you will definitely not want to be errant and truant tomorrow – trust me on this. You will want to show up, at least if you are a true Hainsie/Kimlet. That is all I will will say and I will say no more.

Yesterday we recorded Miss Tami Tappan’s vocal for the new CD and she was, as always, great, in fact I would say her vocal is rather spectacular. The song was Who Killed Teddy Bear, from the totally strange film of the same name, starring Mr. Sal Mineo, Miss Juliet Prowse and Miss Elaine Stritch. If that’s not a cast I don’t know what. The song is by Mr. Bob Gaudio and Mr. Al Kasha. I believe Mr. Gaudio was responsible for several of Mr. Frankie Valli’s big hits, and Mr. Kasha is responsible for the divoon The Morning After from The Towering Inferno. This is a song you will be humming for days after you hear it – it is totally addictive.

Well, why don’t we all click on the Unseemly Button below so I can tell you a strange but true real-life “it’s happening now” story.

Wasn’t that a good teaser? Well, two days ago I noticed there was some black shmootz in my shower. This happened about two years ago, and I simply took off the vent plate on the ceiling, cleaned it and all was well. There is a vent plate because my shower has a steam feature and the vent plate leads up to the roof so the steam can go somewhere eventually. I, of course, have never used the steam feature because then I would stand in the shower and have to do Steam Heat in its entirety and how good is the number with only one person? In any case, I looked up at the vent and I heard what sounded like the soundtrack fx track to The Swarm. I heard what sounded like one hundred bees or hornets or something buzzing madly. And occasionally it sounded like one or two of them would go on a suicide mission and hurl themselves against the vent plate which would then dislodge some black shmootz which would then float down to the floor of the shower. Well, two days later they’re still up there, so I’m thinking there is a nest on my roof (what the squirrels on my roof must think of these uncouth interlopers remains to be seen) and I’m going to have to call an exterminator to go up there and take care of it. Hearing that buzzing sound makes me feel as if I were Olivia de Havilland and we can’t have that. I wouldn’t mind feeling as if I were Joan Fontaine, though, because I do occasionally dream I was at Manderley.

Wasn’t that a fine and strange tale? Frankly, it gave me the willies or, at the very least, the stevies.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must make myself presentable for the signing, I must pick up today’s cake and Diet Coke, I must do all manner of whatnot and then I must go to my friend Margaret and Richard’s house for a cozy supper. Today’s topic of discussion: What are your favorite songs by the following singers and groups: Andy Williams, The Kingston Trio, Judy Collins, Dionne Warwick and Dusty Springfield. I’ll start – it’s hard I know, but Andy - Can’t Get Used to Losing You, Moon River and Days of Wine and Roses; The Kingston Trio - El Matador; Judy Collins – In My Life and Who Knows Where The Time Goes; Dionne – Are You There (with another girl), Walk on By and Here I Am; Dusty – The Look of Love. Of course, I could name bunches of others but I leave those to you, dear readers, and I’ll be back later to check in. Don’t forget, tomorrow you will want to be here, and Monday is our next Unseemly Live Chat.

- Bruce Kimmel

Yes, an exterminator is the answer.

TD - thanks for the CD's! Camelot lives!

The mailman also brought me the exhibitor's press sheet for THE HIGHPOWERED RIFLE that informed me that Miss Allison Hayes once appeared on PLAYHOUSE 90. What she did there, I do not know, but if it says so on the official 20th Century Fox press-sheet, it must be true.

Oh...well my choices will agree somewhat:

Andy Williams - Moon River
Kingston Trio - Tom Dooley
Judy Collins - Both Sides Now
Dionne Warwick - Theme from Valley of the Dolls
Dusty Springfield - The Look of Love

What terrific singers, and what hard choices to make, but I stuck to one song each! Good luck, DR's!

First post - huzzah!

Have a great time at the book signing, Mr BK - just step over all the Harry Potter fans as they fall.

Posted by Jrand52 @ 06/21/2003 10:11 AM PST

Wow--I do believe I am today's first poster.

BK--what a creepy bee story! Wasn't Gloria Swanson also in a campy B bee movie?

I was reading over yesterday's very copious notes (most of which I missed) and noticed that someone I already know has become the new DR! Welcome to TorontoDan!

Favorites song by Andy Williams--Moon River

Never heard anything by the Kingston Trio, and don't really know any Dusty Springfield songs either.

Judy Collins--Send in the Clowns

Dionne Warwick--Walk on By, What the World Needs Now

DR TD--got the CD's and plan to listen to them soon! Thanks! Off to work with me....

Posted by Maya @ 06/21/2003 10:11 AM PST

Well, before I head out the door to the convention, let me be one of the *first* posters for a change. . .
Andy Williams: "Moon River," I suppose; I was never much of a Williams fan.
Judy Collins: "Dorothy" on her *naked* album.
The Kingston Trio: did they sing "Jamaican Farewell?"
Dionne Warwick: "(Theme from) Valley of the Dolls."
Dusty Springfield: "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me" and "Son of a Preacher Man."

Posted by td @ 06/21/2003 10:12 AM PST

Guess I'm not the first poster :( hehe

Posted by Maya @ 06/21/2003 10:12 AM PST

We all must have been typing at the same time, for when I began to post, there were no unseemly answers. . .

Posted by td @ 06/21/2003 10:13 AM PST

I am the FASTEST typer!

Posted by Jrand52 @ 06/21/2003 10:26 AM PST

Andy Williams - Moon River (really the only one I'm pretty sure was sung by Mr. Williams)

Kingston Trio - Tom Dooley - My parents had a great songbook collection of folk songs, traditional and from 60s and 70s. Great background blurbs on the songs and artists who sung them.

Judy Collins - Both Sides Now

Dionne Warwick - Do You Know the Way To San Jose? -For obvious reasons. ;-)

Dusty Springfield - You Don't Have to Say You Love Me and The Look of Love.

Well, the sun was out earlier..now it's clouding up again. BUT the forecast for next week is looking pretty decent - dry - and if even if the predictions are HALF correct, that would be nice.

Posted by Jose C. Simbulan @ 06/21/2003 10:46 AM PST

Oh, please, NOT the Kingston Trio! My sister had a crush on all three of them when we were growing up, which was not a pretty sight. Still, their rendition of "Greenback Dollar" keeps running through my mind.

We should be seeing you soon, BK. Der Brucer has promised to get our flivver running in time to make it to Glendale.

Posted by S. Woody White @ 06/21/2003 11:06 AM PST

Just wanted to make sure that somebody mentioned "I Only Want to Be With You" by Dusty Springfield.

Well if you want a chuckle, I just stumbled across this "tribute" to Ray Harryhausen that had me tickled...

Wasn't "A Morning After" from THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE and not THE TOWERING INFERNO?

Posted by Jrand52 @ 06/21/2003 12:03 PM PST

Well I have returned momentarily from Neverland--have you all missed me? (Don't answer that, my feelings might get hurt).

I am feeling like BK all of a sudden. Why, you might ask? Because last week a store where I buy DVDs put The Hours out a week and a half early by mistake, so I have been watching it for the past several days, well ahead of street date.

I think we did Andy Williams a long time ago--I've always been partial to his reading of If I Could Go Back from Lost Horizon (save the spoken part).

I know a lot of people think Look of Love when you mention Dusty Springfield, but of course that song for me belongs to Sergio Mendes & Brasil '66, with lead vocal by Janis Hansen (not, as you may have suspected, Lani).

Craig - that rocks!

JMK!!!!! How goes Starcrossed?

Posted by Jrand52 @ 06/21/2003 12:08 PM PST

S Woody White,

You got me ALL WRONG!

I know the cultural diffrences
and i should have added that I
WAS JOKING regarding Mr
Spielberg and Mr John
Williams..

It's one of those priviledges of
being famous.... You might
become the center of some
"nagging" and satire!!!!

I could have joked about Mr
Edwards and Mr Mancini
working together SO MANY
times too...

There's just one thing about
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN that I
thought was VERY "insulting"
to French culture.... The
prisons looked like
something out of a medieval
castle... and that scene when
the Tom Hanks' character
comes to arrest Capprio's
character in some remote
French village on Christmas
night.... with the Printing Shop
next to a church where there is
a Xmas celebration is SO
FAKE and so cheap...

But that was HUMOR i was
using... I was not trying to be
offensive... I was having fun --
Granted, i might have been the
only one to have fun, but i was
joking...

And i don't think that will hurt
those gentlemen's reputation
at all...

Anyway, some one who cast
Miss Nathalie Baye in a
megga US production can't be
that bad ;- )

Rain rain go away! Again it's pouring all weekend in NYC. Oh well at least we can catch up on a few DVDs.

Hey, William, we could use
some of this rain here!

Why do you keep it all
there???

I'm joking, I'm joking!

Posted by François @ 06/21/2003 01:55 PM PST

Francois, I thought it was funny. :) I'm a big fan of some of Spielberg's work and he is an undeniably skilled and talented craftsman. I do not like his tendency towards pandering, however, and I think your post nailed him on that score. At any rate, the tone of your posts was light and I didn't feel any antipathy radiating from them. :)

Posted by Lulu @ 06/21/2003 02:07 PM PST

...and it's raining buckets here in Florida, too. An express package of rain is zipping its way to you right now, Francois.

Posted by Lulu @ 06/21/2003 02:08 PM PST

Yep, "The Morning After" comes from THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE. "We Can Never Love Like This Again" comes from THE TOWERING INFERNO. Both of them won Best Song Oscars.

I woke up one night in my first apartment because I heard a bee buzzing in my room. But I couldn't see anything when I turned on the light. Next night, the same thing. Came to find out, I had a nest of bees in my ceiling and under the floor of the apartment over me. Maintenance took care of it, but it was weird.

Not being well schooled on many popular singers, I'll do the best I can with the question of the day.

Andy Williams - "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"
Dionne Warwick - "I Say a Little Prayer for You"
Judy Collins - "Send in the Clowns"

Posted by Matt H. @ 06/21/2003 02:24 PM PST

Thanks Lulu for the buckets...
We need beaucoup buckets --
tired old joke! -- oh, I've
experienced summer showers
MANY TIMES in Florida, up to
the point that one has to stop
one's car for a while....

I know that S Woody White
knew i was joking... he just
grabbed the opportunity to say
good things about those
gents...

I also know that John Williams
arranged music for GOODBYE
MR CHIPS and TOM
SAWYER...

To be technical The Morning is not from the Poseidon Adventure. The tune as it is credited in the end scrawl is "The Song From The Poseidon Adventure"

Andy Williams. No one did a better version of Moon River than Andy. But I also like The Days of Wine and Roses, Where Do I Begin? and Speak Softly Love.

Diane Warwick Besides the one already mentioned I also think she does a smashing job with Windows of the World and a Message to Michael. (Like Jose for obvious reasons)

Dusty Springfield I am only familiar with The Look of Love and Son of a Preacher Man.

Judy Collins I think she does a swell job with Send in the Clowns and the only song of hers I hear on a constant basis thanks to the muszak at work is Parking Lot, but I don't get tired of it.

Didn't the Kingston Trio sing Michael Row Your Boat Ashore? If they did then for obvious reasons it is my favorite. If they didn't then I have heard of them but not familar with their recordings and if they did record Michael.... this is the only song I am familar with.

Posted by Michael Shayne @ 06/21/2003 02:52 PM PST

A definite me topic:
Dusty - everything but especially "I Close My Eyes and Count To Ten", "Going Back", "Son Of A Preacher Man", "What Have I Dont To Deserve This" & "Reputation"
Andy: "Hopeless", "The Wonderful World Of The Young", "Can't Get Used To Losing You" & "Bilbao Song"
Dionne: "I'll Ner Fall In Love Again". "Odds & Ends", "Paper Mache", "Knowing when To Leave", "They Don't Give Medals To Yesterday's Heroes". "The Green Grass Starts To Grow"
Judy Collins" "City Of New Orleans". "In My Life", "My Father". "Farewell To Tarwathie". "Both Sides Now", "I Remember Sky", "Pretty Women"
Kingston Trio: "Everglades", "Greenback Dollar", "Where Have All The Flowers Gone", "Tijuana Jail".

That's my short list. Now to read all the above.

Posted by Tom from Oz @ 06/21/2003 03:37 PM PST

Task for the day: Get out there and discover Dusty Springfield.
Where have you all been?
Her version of "Where am I Going" is a gem. The Lady had a career for nearly 40 years - and a successful one pop wise too. Not many can compare.Chart hits in the UK from 1961 to 1995.

Ah sorry for the people who are in the rain this weekend. I can relate. We've had a lot of rainy days here recently. But today it was hot and sunny and totally beautiful. I am now going outside on the back porch to read.

Btw, does anyone have any good Harry Potter book stories to tell today? My sis was over and she needed to find the newest book TODAY. So we went to Club Price and it was 22.99$Cdn. Does anyone know how much they are selling it for in the US?

Jennifer

Posted by Jennifer @ 06/21/2003 04:02 PM PST

No, Jennifer, but several people have good Benjamin Kritzer stories they can tell you.

Welcome back, JMK!

The signing was very nice - dear readers S. Woody White and his ever lovin' der Brucer were there along with dear reader Jay, and our friend Nick Redman and our friend Grant Geissman, along with a few others. It always amazes me that people who absolutely tell you they'll be there don't show up, don't call, don't write. We had cake and cheese bits and lemon squares and I read for a half-hour. I had a grand time.

Posted by bk @ 06/21/2003 04:15 PM PST

Dear BK beat me to the punch here with a report on the KRTIZERLAND book signing and reading this afternoon.

We all know that BK is clever and suave and funny, but do all of you know that he is psychic, too? Today, when I arrived at Bookfellows in Glendale for the big event, Bruce took one look at me and said, "Jay?" Now keep in mind that Bruce and I have never met previously, and I certainly have never described my appearance on this here site (the most popular site on all of the internet, by the way (BTW in internet lingo)) save for a brief allusion to the color of my hair a few weeks ago. I don't even think I said that I'd be at the book signing today, as I knew my schedule would be somewhat in flux today. (Shouldn't "fluxible" be a word, dear readers?)

So in I walk and here's BK going, "Jay?" Positively amazing.

It was great to hear Bruce read several excerpts from KRIYZERLAND and it was very nice to meet S. Woody White and Der Brucer.

Oh yes. I finally got around to purchasing a copy of BENJAMIN KRITZER. As BK said, now I have no excuses!

Posted by Jay @ 06/21/2003 05:01 PM PST

Tom,

I'm sure you're the one who
can tell me why the field in
spring is ALWAYS dusty?

;- )

... and you also know why Nina
Simone -- bless her soul! --
was "great pal" with Dusty!!!!!

Posted by François @ 06/21/2003 05:04 PM PST

Jay,

This definitely is the Harry
Potter story Jennifer was
asking for!!!

BK,

Are you planning to make
tapings of you reading your
book?? Just an idea....

Posted by François @ 06/21/2003 05:07 PM PST

It has always been my plan to do an audio book of each novel, but I have to find the three or four days per book to do it. I will get around to it pre end of year, and I think they will only be available here at haineshisway.com

Re The Morning After - I realized as soon as I hit "send" that I was probably mistaken and that it was from Poseidon. Oh, well, all them disaster movies look the same.

Posted by bk @ 06/21/2003 05:22 PM PST

And remember, the best
"disaster" singer, for that kind
of songs, is the one and only
Maureen McGovern......

Posted by François @ 06/21/2003 05:34 PM PST

Andy Williams:
"I Want to Be Free"
"Love Theme from 'Last Tango in Paris'"

Dionne Warwick:

"Alfie"
"The Windows of the World"
"A House is Not A Home"

I agree.

Sadly, I recently noted how much Liza now looks like Judy did in her last year or so.

It's still a painful memory for many people, François.

Nina was such a charming, friendly and well-mannered and considerate person by all accounts. She knew how to treat her fans, the public and her neighbours.
Speaking of Judy G - I have the opportunity to buy the Cd of Gay Puree - should I bother! The only Garland I have on CD is "Pepe". I do like Goulet.
(I do of course have Lily Garland).

Posted by Tom from Oz @ 06/21/2003 06:02 PM PST

Funny thing about Pepe - Garland's song The Faraway Part of Town is one of my all-time favorite Garland performances (it's an exquisitely beautiful song by Andre and Dory Previn) and yet very few people know it. If you don't have this latest version of Judy at Carnegie Hall on CD, it's one of the greatest albums ever made. Gay Puree is a lot of fun.

I'm enjoying the lists of songs - I knew you'd come up with great choices everyone.

Posted by bk @ 06/21/2003 06:05 PM PST

I'm woefully unfamiliar with our
various and sundried topics of
the day (sure, I've heard a bit of
all of them, but not enough to
have any favorites). But I didn't
want to be counted as errant
and truant and part of any
unseemly weekend lull, so
here I am!

No rain here, just overcast with
mild temperatures. As for all
the NYC rain, get it out of there
before I arrive on Thursday,
will you? Kindly appreciated.

Posted by Jed @ 06/21/2003 06:32 PM PST

tom - YES, the Carnegie Hall CD is a must.

What a great show Judy could put on!

A small Harry Potter story. My friends own a bookstore in Greencastle Indiana - home of DePauw University. A town of about 8,000 or so. And they had 60 pre-orders for the new Harry Potter book. They did indeed open at 12:01 for those people and threw a party for all who wanted to buy. They purchased a total of 150 copies for their store....and may have to re-order!

Posted by Jrand52 @ 06/21/2003 06:36 PM PST

Judy Garland;

Carnegie Hall cd definitely the
best!

Second best: the "new" 2 cd
set THE CAPITOL YEARS
1955-1965.... that should
convince the most skepticals.

The first cd mainly contains
studio recordings of familiar
songs rendered in a full and
heartfeld, NOT over-the-top,
manner that showcases
Garland's masterfull control of
her voice. Terrific!

Posted by François @ 06/21/2003 06:51 PM PST

Tom,

Rhino productions -- which
this Gay Puree is -- are always
top-notch when it comes to
quality sound...

You can't go wrong with this
one!

Posted by François @ 06/21/2003 06:56 PM PST

I love Garland! I wish I could find a copy of Gay Puree--maybe EBay?

I have a Harry Potter story--it isn't particularly amusing but it just illustrates how insane Potter mania is right now. My friend Isis is one of those Potter fanatics, and I like the books too, so I agreed to go with her to Borders last night for the midnight release of the new book. Suffice it to say there were over 500 people (many dressed as witches and wizards) stuffed into one bookstore and we had to wait until our number was called (#481) so we didn't get out of the store until about 2:30 AM. The whole thing was like a rather mirthless Halloween party.

One more thing--I noticed at work today that the audio Harry Potter books are narrated by Jim Dale. Perhaps when they make the Potter musical he can star in his long-awaited comeback.

BK--Glad the reading went well. Plan to order Kritzerland later. There are other books besides Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

I am back from the Thurston County American Cancer Society's Relay For Life. I have slept maybe a total of 15 minutes between 8:00 a.m. yesterday (Friday) and now and have personally walked more than six hours over the last 24 (there were three people this year who walked all 24 hours!) I haven't read any of yesterday's or today's notes because I can barely keep my eyes open (literally). I hope everyone has had a good weekend (so far) and I hope to be at the chat tomorrow (it's my parents' anniversary, so I might not, but I might). Anyway, I'm going to sleep. Night all! Meant to mention since the topic switched to Judy for a time that along with Carnegie Hall, my two favorite albums of hers are ALONE and JUDY IN LOVE. She's really in terrific voice on both of those.

I find GAY PURREE much more entertaining now than I did as a kid. And the songs are very stylish, much superior to what was being used in cartoon features of the day. Maybe that's what doomed it.

Der Brucer and I had a wonderful time this afternoon, meeting those who DID show up at the Kritzerland reading and signing. BK, for those who haven't had the chance to hear him, has a wonderful reading voice. He even sang a little, and while Guy Haines has nothing to worry about as far as BK being any real vocal competition, he would do well to ask BK to be a backup vocalist the next time he (GH) records a song.

We had a very enjoyable chat, ranging in topics from chat board organization to Lemony Snickett, while noshing on cheese bits, chocolate cake, and lemon bars (a tasteful confluence, I thought). Der Brucer found several books by Michael Bond about a gastronomic detective named Monsieur Pamplemousse, which he will be devouring shortly. And BK scolded us for not yet having the Ann Margaret CD of Best Little Whorehouse, which he produced.

If I'm a bit late in posting this, it is because der Brucer and I went shopping afterwards, trying to find a copy of BLW, along with BK's Pasadena Playhouse recording of Do I Hear a Waltz. Sadly, none of the stores in Glendale that we checked had either recording. Der Brucer DID purchase a couple of very nice neckties, which struck me as strange, since we both avoid situations where we have to wear neckties. We then had a very nice dinner at a restaurant in Glendale called Jax, before heading home. All and all, it was a very pleasant day.

Oh, and DR Lulu, I was thinking of you as I wore the fern-colored Hawaiian shirt to the reading. I bet you'd look smashing in a Hawaiian shirt.

And finally, DR Francois, I'm afraid that I missed the humor in your posts from yesterday. Something got lost in the translation, and they crossed the line between delicious and vicious somehow. It happens sometimes. Take care.

And now, if you'll all excuse me, I plan to spend the rest of my evening curled up with what should be a very good book!

So who is Judy Garland everyone seems to be talking about?

Posted by Debra from Spokane @ 06/21/2003 09:39 PM PST

S Woody White,

If you found something
VICIOUS in what i posted
yesterday it is your right...

Now when you say that
"something got lost in the
translation"... i know it's humor
too, but i find it a tad
tendencious... but it's your right
too...

I'll try to stay BLAND and PC
next time...

Anyway, tomorrow is another
day, fiddle deedee, which here
is today by the way....

Hope i'm not being vicious to
Scarlett....

Dear Reader Debra - she was one of The Gumm Sisters.

Dear reader Debra:

Who was, who was....

Posted by François @ 06/21/2003 09:47 PM PST

I'm wearing an burgundy terry-cloth bathrobe.

Posted by td @ 06/21/2003 09:48 PM PST

OOOhhh

DO I HEAR A WALTZ?

Now, i admit, that IS vicious of
me. ;- )

What a loverly number of posts for a Saturday and I am entirely jiggy with them. Hoo and ray.

Posted by bk @ 06/21/2003 10:06 PM PST

. . .and I am jiggy with posting! It's been a long day at the Monster Bash. . .which is still going on, with events which will start at 2:00am (EST) which I shall certainly not be there to see. BUT, tomorrow morning at ten o'clock: a brand new print of KING KONG is being screened, and I'll be there.

Well... What a glorious day this turned out to be weather-wise. Even the ominous clouds that appeared every now and then never came through on their portended promise. -Did that make sense? -I just wanted to used the word "portend". ;-)

Well, I ended up on another baking binge today. Lemon Ginger Poundcake (in the Rose Bundt Pan), Chocolate Chip Pecan Oatmeal Cookies, Blondies, and a Coconut Pecan Bars (new recipe!). And since I only have a cast of four.. hmm... BUT I did not have anything more than a crumb or two! -pat on the back- However, I may have a cookie tomorrow.

And on that culinary note, Goodnight.

No, François, Miss Vickie's musical days are over.

Oh! She still sings, but we cannot record her. It's best to remember her voice the way it used to be.

And she doesn't miss the limelight, either.

Fortunately, she's pretty good about not missing the litter box, too.

But she's 19 years old. And in kitty years, that's OLD!

Too late Miss Vickie & Dr Ron. Our friend François returns next Thurday.
It seems that I am not the only one who posts at strange hours.Hope you are OK.
good to know that you enjoyed the trip back to your childhood with Gale Storm. I spend so much time in my childhood (musically) that I may have nothing left for my dementia years.

-Wasn't I just here?!?!?!

Good morning. Just wanted to check in this morning, today... I'm about to get in my car and venture back to Winchester for my rehearsal today. Thus I will not be back "here" until sometime later today. *I may also be missing the chat tonight due to some more car time. Ah, well... In any case, I eagerly await to find out what the big announcement, big news will be be for today... Hmmm.. Could part of the news be the big 600!?

I'm going up to Cityplace to have lunch and to shop with a dear friend of mine whom I don't see much anymore (she moved an hour and a half away), so I don't know if I'll be here for the Grand Surprise. Apologies in advance for having the sheer unmitigated gall to do Real Life things instead of Virtual Community things. ;) Hope the surprise is a real corker!

I noticed in the Target sales ad this morning that they're selling HARRY POTTER for $16.49. Just wanted to throw in an update.

Michael - CD arrived yesterday - Thanks again, but I did miss watching Judy singing "Nwe Wine" :-(

Jason - so how's New Hope?

BK (or anyone else who has heard these)- I'm thinking of buying the Bayview CD series "Broadway Musicals of....". Of the six available, which "years" to do reccomend?

Posted by Phil @ 06/22/2003 07:36 AM PST

Oy! Make that "New Wine"

KT - I think Super Skier was a Chad Mitchell Trio song!

"....and two one-legged skiers left from there...."
