Gotta love Jerome Kern. One of the greatest. I am sure all of our lists will include "All the Things You Are", and I will add "Some Girl is on Your Mind", "Bill", "The Way You Look Tonight", "The Last Time I Saw Paris"....the list goes on, but I will save some for the other DRs.

Morning, Dear Readers.
Posted by Susan @ 08/21/2003 07:39 AM PST
Oh, I have to add one more: "They Didn't Believe Me".
Posted by Dave @ 08/21/2003 07:40 AM PST
"You Were Never Lovlier"
"The Way You Look TOnight"
"Ol' Man River"
-And to admit to you, I had no idea if I knew a Jerome Kern song or not, but Google saved the day, as usual :)-
Good Morning Susan!
Hmmm...I've been up since 7. That is VERY early for me, but I'm determined to start getting up earlier, as I'm going to have to when school starts on Monday. Now if I could only get that whole "You must go to bed before 2 in the morning" deal down, life would be good. One cannot survice school on 5 hours of sleep :)
This morning, I have had a HUGE cup of tea with vanilla soy milk in it, 2 mini lemon poppy seed muffins, and now I'm sipping a water bottle.
I'm wearing dark blue jeans, and a yellow shirt with a parrot and a lei on it that says "Get Lei'd Island Style" on it. :)
How are we all today?
Posted by Sarah @ 08/21/2003 07:45 AM PST
Dave, you mentioned my two favorite Kern songs. I love so many of them, but my two absolute favorites are The Way You Look Tonight and All The Things You Are. I'll also add A Fine Romance, a great, great song (IMHO)
Posted by Ben @ 08/21/2003 07:50 AM PST
We are all fine, Sarah and the rest of the earlybirds (no worms, please). I'm about to take my dog, Abie, next-door to see if he gets along with the cats there. If he does, my neighbors will Abie-sit for the weekend while I'm in San Francisco. If he tries to eat the cats, then he must spend the weekend in the kennel (which isn't all that bad - but a nice house with cats would be cozier for him.) Wish us luck!
Posted by Panni @ 08/21/2003 07:51 AM PST
J. Kern faves (Let's face it - they're all good): The Last Time I Saw Paris; A Fine Romance; I'm Old Fashioned; The Song is You.

Aw, heck...one more: "The Folks Who Live on the Hill"

Greetings all from a very tired me!
I was at work yesterday until 12:30 at night working on a stupid mailout. Boo! Hiss!
My favorite Jerome Kern song is, without a doubt, The Way You Look Tonigh.
I'm off shopping now... I'll pop in later for a bit :)

This one is a snap. My very favourite Jerome Kern song and one of my favs of all time:
IN THE HEART OF THE DARK
With a lovely Oscar Hammerstein lyric. From a show Very Warm for May. The hit from it was "All The Things You Are". Why "In The Heart of The Dark" wasn't is beyond me. Barbara Cook sings a lovely rendition of it (where I orignally heard it) on Ben Bagley's Jerome Kern Revisited.

Well, dear readers, you won't believe it - I could barely believe it myself and yet it is true. In yesterday's posts I told you that Wednesday had been our best day ever - it was huge, through the roof, over the moon.
Well, we beat it. Yesterday was even bigger - close to 40,000 hits and just under 1300 visits.
Let us break out the cheese slices and ham chunks - let us put on our colored tights and pantaloons, and our pointy party hats and let us dance the hora and also the horse because soon we will be the most popular site on all the Internet.
Posted by bk @ 08/21/2003 08:09 AM PST
All the songs that I really like (and can remember, and know that Kern wrote), have been mentioned already:
All The Things You Are
Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man of Mine (I like the solo version but love the uptempo, big production number version within the context of the show)
Never Gonna Dance
Pick Yourself Up
The Way You Look Tonight
These are a few of my favorite...Kerns (almost a Rogers and Hammerstein reference)
Posted by George @ 08/21/2003 08:16 AM PST
Okay, "Rodgers" not "Rogers". This is a case when spell-check doesn't help.

BK - I asked this before and never got an answer. What is the difference between a "hit" and a "visit"?
Favorite Kern Song - "Some Girl Is On Your Mind"
Posted by William E. Lurie @ 08/21/2003 08:27 AM PST
Fabulous news today! FINALLY got a "celeb" reply, which I know I like much more than any other, and I hope Aly does! The signed Playbill from the B'Way cast of Thoroughly Modern Millie!
And now all is well in the world :) And I know its not just a copied thing because they're in all different colors and it smells of Sharpie very badly :)
And I'm expecting a FedEx man to show up at the door with BK's package today, so I'm officially in a great mood.
And congratulations to BK and the rest on such a great day. Question: Whats the difference between a visit and a hit?
Oh and I'm not sure exactly how you dance the hora, so I'm making it up as I go along, but I am in fact doing it :)
Posted by Sarah @ 08/21/2003 08:27 AM PST
I prefer my crab legs with no butter, but lots of lemon!
My favorite Jerome Kern song is "How'd You Like to Spoon With Me". There are others that I like well enough, but all in all, I'm not much of a Kern fan. I know -- blasphemy! "Look for the Silver Lining" does it for me for some reason, though. I don't know why - it's rather cliched, but somehow it's incredibly poignant to me. I guess that's a reason to love Kern, eh?
Posted by Joy @ 08/21/2003 08:32 AM PST
So...what does 40,000 hits actually mean????
I think I have a handle on the 1300 visits....1300 times someone logged onto the site?
But what's a "hit"?
What I wish I were wearing:
A pair of jeans, sandals, and a T-shirt with the picture of a man holding a hoe...labeled "Town Hoer"!
Posted by Ron Pulliam @ 08/21/2003 08:33 AM PST
Sarah, I'm not sure how you dance the hora either, but I like the idea of dancing the horse, so let's do that. I love horses.

Mornin' Dear Den Mommy and all other early risin' DR's!
Hora....let's see.....right cross, left back, right behind, left back, right cross, left back, right behind, left back.....
And we haven't even gone into the circle yet!!!
Well, it's not "Mayim" (another Israeli dance) but it'll have to do.
Sarah - send BK a photo of today's outfit for our photo page! Parrot shirt today, swishy shorts next week.....
Kern faves include "The Way You Look Tonight" and "Pick Yourself Up"
Posted by Phil @ 08/21/2003 08:38 AM PST
Good morning, BK and DR's!
"Look for the Silver Lining" is my favorite Jerome Kern tune. If you haven't heard Chet Baker sing and play it, you must. My mother's favorite is "The Way You Look Tonight," which I am currently teaching myself. Others top Kern songs include "Ol' Man River" and "Make Believe" from that SHOW about the BOAT. The latter, which no one mentioned.
DR Joy-- whence came the lovely tune "How'd You Like to Spoon With Me"? The melody is going through my head, but I'm drawing a blank.
Posted by Paulie @ 08/21/2003 08:50 AM PST
Bruce.. you lost a day in your head. Today is Thursday, so TUESDAY had been the biggest day, but WEDNESDAY just beat the pants off of it (and what the pants did to deserve such punishment, I will never know!)
In other news... I wanted to let all the DR's know that I will be enojoying the ever delightful Melissa Errico this evening as a guest for her Joe's Pub gig tonight at 7:30. I will give her a great big hug and kiss from everyone here at HHW!

Rats! One more thing... Emily, e-mail me when you read this. I posted yesterday, but I guess it was too late. I looked into the archives, issues of Emily Posts from a while back, and saw that you have a CD I want. :)
I'm off to a job interview of sorts. If its a job that you already have and the boss just wants to meet with you, is it still a job interview?

Paulie and Sarah, consider yourselves lucky (not Luckie). I only got a two and a half hour nap this morning! I was working on my e-mail (see my very late rant near the end yesterday's posts). I went to sleep at 3:30 and had to get up at 6:00. I hate mornings.

Joy - In parts of New York it was known at
The Oil and the Goil
Posted by Jrand52 @ 08/21/2003 09:09 AM PST
Maybe it's because familiarity breeds contempt, but I haven't seen a lot of mention of the songs in SHOW BOAT. I would have thought that songs like "Only Make Believe", "I Have the Room Above Her", "You Are Love", "Why Do I Love You?" or even "Misery's Comin' Around" would warrant at least a few votes.
Craig, I am so jealous I don't know where to begin. Please let me Ms. Errico that I have been enjoying her on the cast recording of AMOUR *very* much!
Posted by Dave @ 08/21/2003 09:11 AM PST
Ah, Paulie, but you see, I am a sleep addict. If I could sleep for 9 hours a night, I'd be the happiest person ever. I LOVE sleeping, if I have a chance to sleep in, I won't wake up until 11:30-noon. It's great for you too, keeps me from having ugly bags under my eyes. so I'm going to have to start aiming for at least midnight to get to sleep. When school starts on Monday, hopefully my first period teachers will turn out to be cool, and let me nap for a bit. They're both new this year, so we can mess with them :)
DR Phil: If I can ever get my hands on a digital camera, I will gladly get a picture of this shirt and the swishy shorts up there. Actually, this shirt would look great with the purple swishy shorts...I'll have to look into that...
Oh and that explanation of the hora...VERY confusing. It seemed to me that I kept moving backwards lol. Soon we would all have smashed into the wall in a dancing frenzy.
Posted by Sarah @ 08/21/2003 09:12 AM PST
I don't really know from "hits"
and "visits", I only know that
when websites brag or try to
get people to advertise, it's the
"hits" that count. And hits-wise
we are doing pretty amazingly.
On average, we get 25,000
hits a day, so when one does
the monthly and yearly
multiplication it's pretty
damned good, I think. If I
recall, Mr. Mark Bakalor once
told me that hits were the
number of page views on a
particular website. So, it's one
thing for a broadway.com to
get those kinds of stats -
they've got hundreds of pages
- we don't - we have a certain
number of pages, and while
that number occasionally
changes it's fairly consistent.
The bottom line is, soon we
will be the most popular site
on all the Internet.
I'd been thinking about picking
up the new album of Gypsy,
but lo and behold and also
behold and lo if the darned
thing wasn't waiting on my
doorstep when I got home
yesterday. Apparently, I'm on
the Angel promo list, which I
always forget. I'll have a report
on it tomorrow, but one thing in
the credits did make me laugh
out loud - apparently Vinnie
and I have had yet more
impact on the way cast
albums are recorded. More
tomorrow.

Craig - I've lost more than a
day in my head.
Apparently Dave is only
jealous when Craig sees Miss
Melissa Errico. He was
apparently not jealous when
Nick Redman and I saw her
two weeks ago. Dave, you
must learn to be jealous when
ANYONE sees Miss Melissa
Errico, otherwise we shall
simply think you are playing
favorites, jealous-wise. :-)

"The Way You Look Tonight" is not only my favorite Kern song, but is also one of my favorite songs regardless of the composer. It becomes my favorite Kern song by default, I suppose, which seems strange because I cannot find any fault with it at all.
I've been up late the last couple of nights, going over the stack of DVDs my collective der Brucer and I purchased on Wednesday (more about this tomorrow). So I would have expected to get to sleep in this morning. Unfortunately, our eldest dog, Kelsey the Daschund, got himself stuck on one of the glue-traps der Brucer has set out for the mice. We have told Kelsey several times that he is not a mouse, but he is old and got confused. Fortunately, I woke up to find him in his predicament, and was able to gently pry his back feet off of the trap without hurting him, and washed the glue off his paws with baby oil. He, in turn, washed my face in gratitude.
Still, I wouldn't mind getting some more sleep, perhaps a nap in the afternoon. I wish I had a class to go to.
As for Abie the dog and the cats next door, we would never be able to do that ourselves. The younger dogs, Marty and Mikey, detest cats. Either that, or they are very agressive in liking them, I'm not sure which. In any case, Marty and Mikey love going to the kennel for a few days when we have to travel; they regard it much like going to summer camp, only without the bundle of arts and crafts stuck in their luggage upon their return.

One could almost make a paragraph out of 'em:
I've Told Every Little Star/I Watch the Love Parade./They Didn't Believe Me.

Ah Still Suits Me/Who?

My GYPSY recording should be on its way from Amazon.com along with the BK-produced SONDHEIM album!
Mr BK - I think the Bollywood DVD you are looking for is something like the Nehaflix.com offering DOWN MEMORY LANE. I got mine yesterday. A two disc set - enhanced - but in MONO. Some widescreen presentations, but songs from movies from the 1960's to today. Very interesting, there is always a bit of the film as an intro into the song...subtitles, etc. Very nice for only $9.99!

All this talk about SHOWBOAT made me remember a studio recording from Columbia...1962...Barbara Cook and John Raitt. And Anita Darian as Julie. I had never heard of Darian before, and then lo and behold, I found a old KAPP LP of hers at a yard sale. She sang WE KISS IN THE SHADOW and some Middle Eastern song called GOMEN NASEI...beautiful voice. And the internet tells me that she also sang the counter melody on a top 40 hit: THE LION SLEEPS TONIGHT by the Tokens! I love the internet!
Posted by Jrand52 @ 08/21/2003 09:52 AM PST
When I think about Kern, I too naturally think Showboat - so I'll have to pick my favourite tune from that show - Mis'ry Coming 'Round (probably have my apostrophes all wrong!). It was cut from the show, then reinstated for the recent Hal Prince revival (and maybe even before). What a haunting melody!

My reward for coming in late is that so many dear readers have already identified so many of my favorite Kern songs. Indeed, Mr. Kern's canon is sine qua non, in my humble opinion (IMHO in internet lingo.)
Posted by Jay @ 08/21/2003 10:30 AM PST
They Didn't Believe Me must have one of the most simply haunting melodies ever.
Hand in Hand is a lovely obscure Kern song
Why Was I Born?
Smoke Gets in your Eyes
Who? (Jerry Kern sure liked him some questions)
The Way You Look Tonight
Long Ago and Far Away
Can't Help Lovin' dat Man
Bill
Ol' Man River
You are Love
Life Upon the Wicked Stage (ah,hell the whole Show Boat score) and
Nobody Else But Me (from the revival)
BK--congrats on the stats! :)
Sarah--I share your schooltime woes...I return to class on Monday. I had to go into the college this morning and ended up spending $250 on textbooks! Arghh! Tuition alone should be enough to bankrupt a college student without having to buy a bunch of overpriced books.
Sorry for the rant :)

Hollywood and Bollywood aren't the only places that made (and still make) musical films. Check out a wonderful documentary film called "East Side Story" (it's out on DVD) for a "That's Entertainment" type collection from musical films made behind the Iron Curtain in the 50s and 60s.

Needless to say, I am jealous of anyone who gets to enjoy the company of Ms. Errico in person. But anyone who gets to hug that gorgeous woman...well, I'm just green with envy, that's all.
If I'm less jealous of BK, it's because he actually complained about getting to see Ms. Errico's derriere! I imagine most straight men would pay for the privilege... ;-)
Paulie, you may have heard "How'd You Like to Spoon With Me" (the 'girl in the swing' number) in "Till the Clouds Roll By" the *ahem* biography of Jerome Kern.
Sarah, for those of us trying to get a visual, what the heck are swishy shorts?? Someone posted a picture a while ago, but you said that wasn't right. Could you find a picture of them, and post it for us?
Posted by Dave @ 08/21/2003 11:35 AM PST
Dave - I think BK is jealous of your jealousy of me and that is jealousy^2
I prefer jealousy rounded.
Craig, who now has the song "I'll never be jealous again" in his head (oh.. a pajama game reference)..
Speaking of Pajamas - dare I ask what everyone sleeps in?
Posted by Craig @ 08/21/2003 11:40 AM PST
As a (ahem) biography, MGM's glorious "Till the Clouds Roll By" sets a standard for the lame "and then I wrote" genre.
As a musical entertainment, it is stunning, astounding and dazzlingly cast.
Angela Lansbury does the "How'd You Like to Spoon With Me".
An impossibly young, dreamy eyed Dinah Shore sings "The Last Time I Saw Paris" and "They Wouldn't Believe Me" and both songs resonate.
I'm fonder of "They Wouldn't Believe Me" with the lyric changes done for "Oh! What A Lovely War" and the film's all-male chorus makes the song totally heartbreaking...the moreso because of the scene with the soldier walking through the cemetery.
Kern weaves his spell no matter where his music is performed.
Posted by Ron Pulliam @ 08/21/2003 11:42 AM PST
Undoubtedly, my favorite Kern song is "The Folk Who Live on the Hill," which I believe only DR Noel has mentioned.

If you click on my name, there s a picture of swishy shorts. Those aren't exactly like mine, because they're a LOT bigger in the "thigh part", but they're actually the exact same thing only less baggy. Same color and fabric!
I sleep in...swishy shorts, teeshirts, boxers, tank tops, and breezy pants. Comfy stuff.
There are a bazillion painters at my house and theyre walking around everywhere, and one man is smoking outside, but the window next to him is open and I can smell it all the way up in my room. I'm partially allergic to smoke, and it's driving me crazy. But I can't ask him to stop because I think my mom said "You can smoke but NOT in the house." I suppose I'll live, and if I don't, you may have my swishy shorts.
They keep aking me for water. I'm running out of water bottles. Don't you think they should come prepared? I know I should be hospitable, but isnt there a line that says "You should have brought enough water bottles for yourself and your 50-member crew, dumbuttcheek!"
Oh and I just got your package bk...you are too cool :) Thank you thank you thank you thank you a million times over...or, to quote Paulie, two million. *HUGE CHEESY GRIN*

Good day! And, indeed it has already been a good day! And it can only get better!!
First and foremost, Thank You, BK! I will now have the utmost pleasure of being able to read more of the further adventures of Benjamin Kritzer courtesy of "Kritzerland" - well, courtesy of you! And an even bigger Thank You for the "extra" - I knew there was a reason I left a blank slot in my CD case - really, I did! -Kind of spooky when you think about it.
-I also have a sneaking suspicion that I will be the eny of everyone on my plane: "Why is that gentleman smiling so much?," "Hey, what's so funny?," "Wasn't that the book I saw on Amazon.com?". Yes, I will be the envy of everyone indeed!
As for Jerome Kern - "All The Things You Are" will always be tops for me. Amazing lyrics, great harmonies. I first came across it in a Reader's Digest anthology - and that's still my favorite piano arrangement of the song today. The only thing the anthology didn't have was the verse. And what a great verse too!
Well, I have one or two small things to finish up before I head to the airport... If you look up, I'll be waving!!!
-See you soon, Tom!

Sarah: The reason those painters keep asking for water is BECAUSE they want to see you in swishy shorts.
Just tell them where the water hose or spigot is on the side of the house and let them drink from there. It's the exact same water that flows out of your kitchen faucet (unless you have an attached filter).

Posted by Ben @ 08/21/2003 12:55 PM PST
Of course I meant to say that I'm sad about your feeling sad that she's going away, of course.
Posted by Maya @ 08/21/2003 12:56 PM PST
bk: Congratulations on ridding yourself of the residual evil! Residual evil is bad. Unless it's a residual payment - which is always good. (Just like pistachios.)
Posted by Panni @ 08/21/2003 12:56 PM PST
Panni, you are a star and we love you and your fabulous stories and your lovely point of view on everything!
I hope your daughter settles in at college well enough, and I hope you are able to let her go! I know its sad, but she wont dissapear, I promise! DCome back and talk to us when you're through and we'll smile and smile again.
And I hope your dog didn't snack on the cats. How'd that go?
Posted by Sarah @ 08/21/2003 12:56 PM PST
Panni, I love that you used the expression "virtually ignored". That is a great pun, considering the circumstances. Have you thought of changing your name to Punni?
And don't worry if your posts go unacknowledged. My posts often seem to go overlooked, but I try not to take it personally.
Best wishes to your daughter in SF!
Posted by Dave @ 08/21/2003 12:57 PM PST
This is for Dear BK in his moment of triumph:
When it all comes true
Just the way you planned
It's funny but the bells don't ring...
It's a quiet thing.
Good does indeed triumph over evil. Sometimes you just gotta wait for it.
Posted by Philip Crosby @ 08/21/2003 12:59 PM PST
Thank you for the virtual hugs and good wishes! I'm no longer feeling neglected. Now I'm feeling hungry and will have some lunch.
Maya - She's going to the Univ. of San Francisco.
Posted by Panni @ 08/21/2003 12:59 PM PST
By the way, I am extremely jealous of BK for getting to hug Melissa Errico. Her "Blue Like That" album is one of my great pleasures.
Posted by Philip Crosby @ 08/21/2003 01:01 PM PST
Sarah - The dog story was anticlimactic. Before we had a chance to go over to the neighbors' for the test run, one of them phoned to say that her partner was against having another doggie guest at this time (They've had a few lately.) I did take my goldfish, Billy Bigelow, over. Her partner has no problesm with fish.
Posted by Panni @ 08/21/2003 01:04 PM PST
It's too cute that you have a goldfish named Billy Bigelow!
Posted by Panni @ 08/21/2003 01:07 PM PST
You know..I meant to type:
Panni--how cute that you have a fish named Billy Bigelow.
Am not trying to approximate your identity, lol!
I really need to get more sleep...
Posted by Maya @ 08/21/2003 01:08 PM PST
I had intended to just browse today as I'm busy packing-must be prepared to leave for LA at a moments notice.
I must respond to Panni. Off to college, such a bittersweet moment. Where in San Francisco. It's a fun place to visit. I have a site to get great deals on hotels there if you need it. Our younger son went to SFSU and the hotels near by were horrible. We found it far more enjoyable to stay downtown. Do you have any other children? Any at home?
I also love Dinah Shore singing "The Last Time I Saw Paris"
Posted by Jane @ 08/21/2003 01:08 PM PST
DR Panni-
Panni and Paulie are similar sounding names! That alone merits a virtual hug!
In the spirit of Jerome Kern, here are some snippets of songs, just for you!
Right now, this is what you want to be saying:
Don't ever leave me, now that you're here!
Here is where you belong.
Ev'rything seems so right when you're near,
When you're away it's all wrong.
But you should be singing:
A heart, full of joy and gladness,
Will always banish sadness and strife.
So always look for the silver lining,
And try to find the sunny side of life.
So, 'Til The Clouds Roll By, just be happy Every Little While and keep this in mind:
Come what may, 'tis sweet to know
That you're a friend of mine!
Night and day, my heart's aglow
If you're a friend of mine!
I can't help what they say; spring affects me this way, and I gotta keep singing all day!
:-D
Posted by Paulie @ 08/21/2003 01:10 PM PST
Jane - I'm staying downtown, got a great deal. I have no other children. She's it. As you say, it's bittersweet. I'm happy she's going out into the world, wouldn't want it any other way. But it's a rite of passage -- for both of us.
Posted by Panni @ 08/21/2003 01:13 PM PST
Paulie..I'm very impressed by your knowing so many Kern lyrics when you're still in high school, right?
Makes me think there should be a line of Hallmark cards with Broadway lyrics :)
Posted by Maya @ 08/21/2003 01:14 PM PST
DR Jose, have a safe trip to OZ, a wonderful sojourn, and come back with a suitcase full of lovely memories to share with all of us.
Posted by The Den Mother @ 08/21/2003 01:15 PM PST
Thank you all again for the virtual hugs, songs, etc. How very very sweet! This is indeed the very best site on the whole damn Internet. Now I'm going to have lunch.
Posted by Panni @ 08/21/2003 01:16 PM PST
I'm jealous that Dave's posts
go unacknowledged. I'm
jealous that Panni/Punni's
daughter is going off to
college. I'm jealous I am not
wearing Swishy Shorts. I'm
jealous of peet moss and also
of Pete Moss, whoever the
HELL he is. I'm jealous of
being jealous. I have finished
my pistachio nuts and now I
might start in on my chocolate
gummi bears. Today was
Bagel Day here at Reality
Central. I had a sesame
bagel with cream cheese. I've
had three count them three
Diet Cokes. I am wearing
jeans and a black and white
striped pull-over shirt. I am not
wearing a THONG. I picked up
an advance DVD of one of my
all-time Guilty Pleasures -
Night of the Following Day
starring Mr. Marlon Brando and
Miss Pamela Franklin. I will
have a full report for you
tomorrow for I shall be
watching it this very evening.
Posted by bk @ 08/21/2003 01:16 PM PST
Maya, I've got a Jerome Kern book at the piano-- just footsteps away from the computer. =)
Posted by Paulie @ 08/21/2003 01:21 PM PST
Panni, remember you can visit, talk on the phone and email. My younger son is in Romania with the Peace Corps. for the next two years. All we get are short emails when he can get to a computer. It will be a year before we see him again. On the upside, we are going to have a very nice vacation going to Eastern Europe to visit him.
Posted by Jane @ 08/21/2003 01:25 PM PST
BK, are your black and white stripes sideways, like a convict; or are they lengthwise, ala a sport's referee?
Posted by TCB @ 08/21/2003 01:32 PM PST
BK: Thank you so much, again! I'm only on page 9 of Benjamin Kritzer and I already love it, and Aly says she wants to read it when I'm done. (Little does she know that something in the package was for her as well).
Do they make chocolate gummi bears? And I'm sorry you're jealous of everything, but look on the bright side: if you had all of the things you are so very jealous of, what would you have to post about?
Posted by Sarah @ 08/21/2003 01:35 PM PST
Sarah--let's gang up on BK and take his chocolate gummi bears, ;)
Just kidding, BK--they're rightfully yours.
Paulie--That is still very impressive that you have a Kern songbook! Most people around our age probably have like P. Diddy songbooks...pooh to them, ;)
Posted by Maya @ 08/21/2003 01:40 PM PST
BK... well I am jealous of your internet traffic, jealous of your dvd collection, jealous of your memories of a youthful LA and I am sure I am jealous of more than one of the plethora of delightful femmes you have worked with through the years...
So there!
Posted by Craig @ 08/21/2003 01:45 PM PST
Maya, I sincerely doubt that they make P. Diddly songbooks, and even if they did, I know *I* wouldn't have one. You're stereotyping your own age group! Silly girl.
Posted by Sarah @ 08/21/2003 01:56 PM PST
Sarah - read on!
The chocolate gummi bears
were actually given to me by
my friend David Wechter. He'd
eaten too many and wanted
them elsewhere. I haven't
tried them yet. We have a
Candy Lady who comes here
every two weeks and she has
quite a plethora of pleasures.
Posted by bk @ 08/21/2003 01:57 PM PST
Favorite Kern: "Ol' Man River," "I'm Old Fashioned," and "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes."
Posted by Matt H. @ 08/21/2003 01:57 PM PST
Finished my delicious lunch (sans chocolate gummi bears - I've never even heard of chocolate gummi bears - theys sound mildly disgusting. Some things should NOT be chocolate. Like gummi bears and bagels. But I digress...)
Jane - You're quite right about being able to communicate easily. In fact, I'll know she's happy in her new life when I stop hearing from her. BTW - When you're in Romania, make sure to bop over to Hungary. Budapest is the Paris of Eastern Europe. You'll see quite a difference between the two countries. ...Okay - back to work.
Posted by Panni @ 08/21/2003 02:03 PM PST
Sarah--sorry, didn't mean to stereotype! That certainly did not apply to any of the fabulous, theatre-savvy and witty younguns here!
Posted by Maya @ 08/21/2003 02:10 PM PST
A songbook for a rapper? Hmmm, sounds interesting. How does one transcribe music for songs that have no melody?
Of course, in the few instances where the songs *do* have melody, one could always reference the songbook of the artist whose work is being sampled...
Posted by Dave @ 08/21/2003 02:15 PM PST
Panni: Another thing that shouldn't be chocolate -- Necco Wafers. Ugh.
My co-workers are all up in arms over some mandatory training we have next week. I think it will be a nice change of pace, myself, and wonder who thought up the idea of "Violins in the Workplace."
Posted by Ron Pulliam @ 08/21/2003 02:31 PM PST
Ron,
Probably the same person who thought of "Sax in the Office".
Posted by Dave @ 08/21/2003 02:33 PM PST
I agree with all of the above Kern references. The McGlinn "Showboat" and his "Treasury" are such fine showcases of the Kern catalogue. IMHO McGlinn's recording of "Showboat" is the finest recording of the 20thCentury.
I should add my favourites of course: "You Are Love", "The Song Is You", "The Folks who Live On The Hill" and "All The Things You Are".
For year I probably thought "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes" was a song written for the Platters.
We shall miss you over the weekend TCB of can go steal a computer from work. Please don't mention Black and White stripes - they represent the most disliked football team (except by its supporters of course) here in OZ.
Posted by Tom from Oz @ 08/21/2003 02:37 PM PST
The stripes run sideways.
Have you ever seen the stripes
run sideways? They look
totally klutzy, although they look
fine when they walk sideways.
I'm thinkin' we might just get to
100 posts today.
Posted by bk @ 08/21/2003 02:38 PM PST
Thanks, Dave, for acknowledging my post/presence. I was about to post to BK that he need not feel jealous of "your" posts being ignored when mine were equally going without comment.
S-i-g-h!
Now I shall have to find something else to divert myself from the nasty little virus I've obtained.
Another cold, people! Yuck!
Posted by Ron Pulliam @ 08/21/2003 02:40 PM PST
So you can catch a virus from the computer Ron. I hope Miss vickie is safe and well. Take care. I read your posts!
Posted by Tom from Oz @ 08/21/2003 02:48 PM PST
I'm sure there are many many
more Kern gems out there, but
all my favorites that come to
mind have been mentioned
already. Just wonderful stuff.
DR Sarah wrote...
my first period teachers...
They're both new this year, so
we can mess with them.
For shame! This is not the
sort of thing I need to be
reading! I myself am about to
be a first-year teacher (that is if
I land a job in the next week...
it's been a horrendous year to
enter the music education field
in WA state). But then, if I have
students like you who know
from good music, I shall be
greatly pleased. :-)
DR Philip Crosby - Thank you
for reminding me of "A Quiet
Thing"! Such a beautiful song,
must give it a listen again.
I'm on a SHENANDOAH kick
today. Not one I listen to all
that often, but I've played it 3
times already today... just in
the right mood, I suppose.
Posted by Jed @ 08/21/2003 02:50 PM PST
Ron, hope you have a speedy recovery.
Posted by Jane @ 08/21/2003 02:51 PM PST
DR Ron Pulliam: Feel better fast! Read some jokes, humor is good medicine :)
DR Jed: Good luck with teaching this year! And when I say mess with them, I mean only in the niest possible way. We can't be too bad, because then they'll be scarred for life and all future students will have to deal with hell's fury from them. I actually have no REAL intentions to do anything but sleep once in a while. It's Algebra II and Honors Bio. Do you remember ANYthing useful from those classes, anyway? Music is much more fun, I'm sure your students will be attentive :)
Posted by Sarah @ 08/21/2003 02:57 PM PST
I am with you JED. Baiting teachers is not a sport. I hope DR Sarah remembers that teachers are performers and that she too will be on stage and have to win an audience at some stage - it takes a while to hone those skills. Yes. I was a teacher and the only "weapon" we have to defend ourselves with is our personality. We do not have the freedom of our audience. Shame.
Posted by Tom from Oz @ 08/21/2003 02:58 PM PST
Sarah is funnin', don't be
comin' down on our Swishy
Sarah who, by the way (BTW,
in Internet lingo) should be
reading right about now.
Posted by bk @ 08/21/2003 03:02 PM PST
Thanks bk!
And Tom, I understand completely what you're talking about! I agree actually, it drives me crazy when the people who care less about school sit there and talk the whole time, or lie to get out of doing stuff because they're too damn lazy to actually make an effort. I would never actually sleep in class unless it was an accident, or during hell week of the musical, in which case I have actual permission from the principal, so it's alright. My mom is a teacher, and she knows some of my teachers. If she ever heard I did something at all "out of line", I'd get in more trouble than you'd know :)
Posted by Sarah @ 08/21/2003 03:06 PM PST
Oh and BK, when I get home, I PROMISE I will read as much as I can of BK, but I'm actually off to spend more money with my friends at the mall. I seriously need my money taken away from me. I'm going to develop a problem someday.
But then again, the first step to recovery is admitting you HAVE a problem. I've already done that :)
Posted by Sarah @ 08/21/2003 03:08 PM PST
Like many people lately, this is my first time, so I hope I do not say anything unseemly. I just discovered this site recently and am going a bit googly-eyed making my way through all the archives, but I must say I've never learned so much about film and theatre in a few sittings, and have never seen such a lovely and welcoming community.
If I am correct, it seems the official food of this very popular site is ham chunks; therefore I thought this website selling ham bunnies would be seemly and appropriate.
Posted by irn @ 08/21/2003 03:17 PM PST
Welcome irn.
Posted by Tom from Oz @ 08/21/2003 03:22 PM PST
Welcome, Irn.
DR Megan, if you check in today, Happy Birthday. Call me sometime.

Ah, a customer - oh, a
Sweeney Todd reference.
Welcome to Irn, our newest
dear reader.
Laura, you have not been
posting NEARLY enough. And
Sandra has been positively
moribund, do you hear me?
Posted by bk @ 08/21/2003 03:26 PM PST
Thanks for the welcomes. :)
Posted by irn @ 08/21/2003 03:28 PM PST
Of course I realize our dear DR
Sarah was funnin', and I would
never dream of comin' down
on our Swishy Sarah! I know
that she has only the gentlest
of "breaking in" planned for her
new teachers. :-) I can only
hope to have students like her
in my classes. And, as she
said, I should be a bit better off
than many, as some of my
students will actually WANT to
be in my choir class.
If the one job opening still out
there for me doesn't come
through, I'll be substitute
teaching again this next year,
which comes with its own
special "fun." Actually, it's not
all that bad at all. And when
you occasionally do come
across a class of hellions, you
can smile knowing that they're
not your problem tomorrow.
Posted by Jed @ 08/21/2003 03:39 PM PST
Welcome, DR irn! I myself am only a few days old here, but I've jumped right in! Ham bunnies are swell, but I would be pleased if the website began to sell chocolate gummy (not gummie) bears.
Jed and other teachers: you must understand that us high school dwellers make special exceptions for those who educate us in music! (:

What is it, a lull? Have we
peaked? I shall be piqued if
we have peaked. Or, have we
peeked? C'mon, people, now,
smile on each other! Let's get
some postin' goin' on. Siesta
time is over. Shopping time is
over. Suppertime is over.

Tom/Oz: Rest assured! Ms. Vickie is better than ever and full of sass.
As François might say, were he here: Miss Vickie, she is full of chat!
Posted by Ron Pulliam @ 08/21/2003 04:10 PM PST
Les Chien are pleased to hear that indeed. Is "cherchez la chat" a well-known song? Truth be known Fosca and Magnus have never met a cat (except at the Vet). They can not even be coaxed into chasing les lapin.(We have land for wildlife sheme rated property and the dogs consider that the rabbits have the same rights as the echidnas, possums (a Dame Edna Reference), Kangaroos etc. Another François free weekend is nearly upon us. One less to go. Can you order les grenoille to go? (with fries of course.
Does DR Laura provide both catnip and sass for cats?
Happy birthday Megan.
Where are our Sandra stories?

DR Ron, I hope you feel better soon.
The best cure that I know of for the common cold is what the Japanese call tamagozake: Mix a raw egg into a glass of hot sake and sip while sitting in a steaming hot bath, then go straight to bed. When you get up in the morning, you'll be feeling no pain.
Posted by The Den Mother @ 08/21/2003 05:35 PM PST
Of course he'll be feeling no
pain - he'll have passed out
from drinking a raw egg in
saki. Since Den Mother is
JEWISH why isn't she
recommending a nice bowl
chicken soup, which really
does work and you don't have t
be an egg sucker.
Posted by bk @ 08/21/2003 05:46 PM PST
Chicken soup????? That would be very unseemly for a vegetarian such as me to suggest!!
Posted by The Den Mother @ 08/21/2003 06:00 PM PST
BK--I know it's not Wednesday, but I had a question that I hope you won't mind answering. I was scanning ATC and I noticed that you had responded to the thread about It's De-Lovely. What did they mean by "contemporizing" the songs? If I hear, say, Easy to Love set to an electric guitar I am not going to be pleased. Do you have any idea what they meant? I believe it's possible to update arrangements without completely rendering the song unrecognizable.
DR Ron--feel better!

Welcome, N(ew)D(ear)R(eader) Irn!
Panni, I'm glad you no longer feel neglected (read on):
Fridays are the day we all report what is in our CD, record, tape, DVD and video players. I will be gone all day tomorrow. Yesterday was my dad's birthday (he LOVES books) and my sister and I are taking him and our mom to Powell's bookstore in Portland, Oregon (we live in Olympia, Washington). He is so excited. Anyway, today (right now actually) I'll say what is going to be in my DVD player: a DVD of MY LOUISIANA SKY that I got from my local library (where I work). When Panni said that she was the screenwriter for this movie, I checked our on-line catalog and we have it on video and DVD! I placed a hold for it and it came this morning, directly to my desk.
In my CD player today (since I will have no access to one tomorrow) was ...umm... a non-professionally recorded ...umm... recording of a professional production (shhh, don't tell anyone) of a show which happens to have my name in the title starring ...umm... someone who has been mentioned in today's posts. It was fairly quiet (being ...umm... non-professionally recorded) but for the most part understandable and quite enjoyable. If only a professional recording could have been made.

Please disregard the e-mail address that I entered in my previous post. I had a brain fart.
Posted by George @ 08/21/2003 06:55 PM PST
I am back from dinner and shopping, and I spent less than I had thought I would. I only bought a new bag that will serve as my backpack this year, and 2 FANTASTIC pairs of jeans from Gap. Seriously, if you don't buy your jeans ther, you should. They make your butt look great :).
And don't you know that if I bought the low-rise-boot-cut-long-and-lean jeans with the pretty seam, I had to buy boots to go with them! But I ended up getting those at Nordstroms, so I didn't pay TOO much.
Welcome irn! As I have asked other new cookies in this ever-growing cookie jar, what flavor are YOU? And I think irn should have to do a roll call! Roll call is simply some background, like career, relative age and location, hobbies, etc. :)
DR Jed: Glad we're on the same page.
DR Paulie: That goes for you too. High schoolers must stand together!
DR Ron: Tea! Tea without eggs or chicken. And some mashed potatoes. You'll be better in no time :)
And now to read Benjamin Kritzer.

Poor DR TD has called in sick. His computer is sick, that is. Yes, DR TD's computer is reported to be dying a slow death. So sad! I hope they find a remedy, and soon, so that we can have DR TD back with us. We miss you, TD!

Just back from seeing the sweet sweet Melissa Errico. Her performance tonight at Joe's Pub was simply flawless. And what a treat there was in the audience.. Melissa's family was there and as an encore, Melissa and her father performed "Nothing's Gonna Harm You"
I had the pleasure of sitting next to quite the array of celebs.. Malcom Gets, Roland Emmerich, Jack Noseworthy, Bill Buell (we had a wonderful conversation about One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest), Minnie Driver, and so on...
What a delight.. I suggest all DR's see Melissa if they get a chance...
Posted by Craig @ 08/21/2003 07:27 PM PST
Emily - forgive me, I'm exhausted, so I may be forgetting what you're referring to - but I don't know what note from me you saw. I didn't ask you any question directly. Could you let me know. Thanks!
BTW, all - I'll be in San Francisco until Monday and won't be taking my computer, so you won't be hearing from me. I've been helping my daughter pack and now she's gone out to a Farewell Dinner with her friends. And I think I'm getting sick. That's all I need! Six suitcases to lug, drive to the airport, fly to S.F., lug the suitcases to the hotel, then lug the suitcases to the dorms, help move in, etc. etc. -- and me coming down with something. (Which I probably caught from my daughter who's just getting over bronchitis.) My throat's so sore I can hardly swallow. Aaarggh!

Good luck with your travels and your young'n leaving the nest.

Maya - hard to know what they mean - it just isn't going to be a "musical" - I just love Hollywood trying to take some piece of crap and save it by jumping on whatever bandwagon is current. Now, I don't know that it's a piece of crap, but I do know that its director, Irwin Winkler has never made a good film, he's heavy-handed and ham-fisted and one of the worst directors ever.
Posted by bk @ 08/21/2003 07:35 PM PST
Ham-fisted as opposed to ham-chunked?

DR Panni, feel better soon! Dr BK (that's Dr for doctor, not DR for Dear Reader) recommends chicken soup. I recommend Super Echinacea taken 25 to 35 drops in a small amount of water, up to five times a day. It will nip that ailment right in the bud!

Thank you, Den Mother! We used to have Echinacea in the house until my daughter developed an allergy to it. I'm too tired to go out and get some, so I'll try chamomile tea with honey for now. But maybe I'll get Echinacea later tonight.
Posted by Panni @ 08/21/2003 07:45 PM PST
Panni--mmm...chamomile tea sounds really yummy right now....Even just saying that word is really relaxing...chamomile....
BK--Thanks for your opinion! I hope that this Winkler guy is somehow able to overcome the string of clunkers behind him and make a good movie musical without jumping on the trend bandwagon too much. I love Kevin Kline and think he will be a very good Cole Porter (and not Cole Slaw ;)) and Caroline O'Connor a good Ethel Merman. The trick may be to avoid condescending to both the material and to the audience. I really want the movie musical to live on, as I'm sure we all do.
And now to raid through the cupboards for some chamomile tea....

Welcome irn and a belated welcome to Paulie.
Panni, I prefer zinc and Benedrly. I also suggest sleeping propped up if it's settling into your chest. Are you flying? Be sure to use nose drops for the take off and landing. Good luck.

DR Panni, please note that there is a difference between Echinacea and SUPER Echinacea. Super Echinacea is far more effective. There's also another powerful remedy called Emer'gen-C. It's a fizzing powder that comes in individually wrapped packets. Just add to small cup of water and drink slowly. It's a great antioxidant and energy booster. But whatever you decide to take, may it help you to feel better soon!

Panni, I forgot to mention I'm also allergic to Echinacea.

I can tell you now from Irwin Winkler's descriptions of D'LOVELY that I won't go to within ten miles of any theater that's playing it. It's going to be tripe, pure and simple, and even more dishonest in its way than NIGHT AND DAY was since that old film's content was pretty much determined by the Production Code of the time. Winkler has no such restrictions and is still making a truly dishonest and gauche musical biopic. (Going purely from descriptions I've read, of course, but since its director is the one making lots of the pronouncements about the film's content, I know it's going to be pure junk.)

Panni: sorry - I confused you for Paulie.
Sheesh... I have a feeling your oh so similar names are gonna cause me problems in the future. I'll actually have to READ the posts closely now :)

DR Sarah, to answer your roll call, I am a transplanted New Yorker originally from Hawaii, in my mid-20's. I have an uneventful office job (which lets me read sites like this all day), though it has the very nice perk of (some) free books. If I had to pick a flavor I would say I am Irn-Bru flavored, hence the nickname. It is an orange Scottish soda that is sweeter and less citric than the American Sunkist, and of which I am quite fond.
I have just come from seeing a performance of Thoroughly Modern Millie, which I'd never gotten around to seeing. Maybe it's in the archive somewhere, but what did you all think of it? I thoroughly enjoyed Miss Sutton Foster's performance. I also plan on checking out Juliana's Journal soon..
DRs Ron and Panni, I hope you both feel better ASAP. My Chinese mother always gave me won ton soup when I had a cold, which I suppose is the cultural equivalent to a bowl of chicken soup, complete with all the kvetching. Panni, my mother was also traumatized when I left for college, but after a little time passed she was thrilled to have gotten me out of the house. :P
DR George, I too have the odd non-professional recording lying around the house.. you are not alone. ;)
I think I have gone on long enough, so a good night to you all.

If I listen to my cole slaw and hear anything, I don't eat it.
Once, my mother got hysterical over the notion that the cole slaw my sister and brother-in-law were serving at a picnic had spoiled and all their guests would get sick. Not a one did.
But, since this was one of her funnier "mother-in-law" moments, I'm making reference to it in the song she and my future mother-in-law will be singing at our wedding:
"When they're cooking, always point out what's unhealthy
And, at a picnic, cry "You're poisoning the slaw!"
...To be the mother of all mothers-in-law."

I'm sorry, everyone, that I have been
E&T over the past few days. I have
been quite busy. Also, when I looked
at some of the aerchives and saw
some of the anger that occasionally
poisons the discourse..it makes me
sad. So I've been away a bit.
To address something from
previously-I am quoted in this
month's "Stage on Screen" on
playbill.com. I talk about my
performing arts camp experiences.
Quite amusing.
And I just much say, I adore Jerome
Kern. All the songs I love have been
mentioned. He's simply magical.

In honour of td I am playing some songs by the Pet Shop Boys. I just finished listening to their take on Coward's "If Love Were All" which I quite like. I wondered if DRs had views on their production of "Losing My Mind" for Liza. (It was a top 10 hit in the UK in 1989).This is not the time to use the Pet Shop Boys title "What Have I Done To Deserve This"! (IMHO One of the great pop songs of the eighties).

Well, the computer is dying, as Susan thankfully told you; but, I have an order in on a new one from a company that I cater/bartend for. They told me that whenever I was ready for a new computer, that they would hook me up at a very low price, and I'm taking them at their word.
At least, now I know that it is none of the BIG viral/bug infections that are happening computer-wise (Blaster or SoBig), not any of the others like Klez; no, it's just that this is an old computer (six years in computer age is ancient) with a mere 6.0gigs. . .most computers now are at least three times that - so i'm told.
DR Maya. . .sorry about no emails, but, that's the way things are going right now. try reaching me at daisy43hilton@yahoo.com; that might get through to me.
Bear (or bare) with me, dear readers, and I will be here when I can possibly be.

This is sooooo cool!
Greetings from the Red Carpet Lounge at LAX. Since Universal is flying me business class to Sydney, I get business class privileges - one of which is access to the Red Carpet Lounge. This is very neat. Tables, TVs, phones (free local calls), wireless access, a bar (I got two free drink coupons, but alcohol and flights don't mix well for me), etc. Very nice indeed. And considering I have 14 1/2 more hours of flight time coming up...
The flight from Dulles was nice. It's been a LONG time since I've been on a flight longer then 2 1/2 hours... When I looked at my watch and realized that we had only been in the air for two hours, I almost thought - wished - that I had already set my watch to LA time, but, alas, no... The meal was decent - chicken; the movie was fun - Down With Love; and the extra in-plane entertainment was good too - a classic episode of "Friends".
Well, I just wanted to check in while I had the chance. Thanks again for all of your well wishes.
OH!!! And just to make Craig and Dave even more jealous... Did you catch Ms. Errico last summer at the Kennedy Center when she was appearing at Dot in Sunday In The Park With George? If you had, you would have certainly more than the top of her back! *I just skimmed today's posts so far, so if this comment is not appropriate, well, then...
Time to board!

Jose, I bet you flew right over my house when you took off! I live about 5 miles as the crow flies from Dulles. Airplanes galore. I remember when I first moved here from quiet little Edmond, OK, and there were airplanes every 5 minutes, it got REALLY annoying, but now I don't even hear it. I hope you have fun Down Under!
td, I'm sorry about your computer! I hope your new one arrives quickly and works efficiently.
bk, I am thoroughly enjoying B. Kritzer, I'm having plenty of laughs, specifically during any mention of the crashing trucks, or "Go play in traffic." My own mother says that to me ALL the time when I get on her nerves, and I didn't think ahyone else in the world said that to their children. :)

Many thanks to all for their good wishes and recommendations for antidotes.
It's my bedtime...past it, actually. I stayed up this late to catch Carson Kessley's infamous comment during the chocolate tasting segment of the recent "Queer Eye," but NBC had e-d-i-t-e-d the comment O-U-T. Some things just aren't ready for prime time on "m-a-j-o-r" networks.
I've watched "Liza With A Z" and "Chicago" this evening. Very thrilling moments in both, I thought. "Liza With A Z" seems more dated than the Streissand TV specials do...I think it's the costumes and the material ("It Was A Good Time" from "Ryan's Daughter" was never top 10 material to begin with). But "Ring Them Bells" is m-a-g-i-c!
Good night, everyone. I have a long, hard work day ahead of me tomorrow. I will have earned my weekend when it arrives!

Streisand, without the extra "s"!

Jose, can I ask what you are coming to do in Australia? It's a beautiful day today (friday afternoon right now). This morning during class it rained, but that just freshened things up.
Posted by Tyson @ 08/21/2003 11:18 PM PST
Break legs, Jose, in Australia.
Good vibes, Ron.
Posted by Laura @ 08/22/2003 12:09 AM PST
DR Tyson. Jose is coming to OZ to meet me! I think he is taking the opportunity to play piano etc for some auditions for the Universal organisation whilst he is here. The adds have been in the last few Saturday papers. Auditions in Sydney, Melbourne and on the Gold Coast.
Posted by Tom from Oz @ 08/22/2003 12:17 AM PST
DR Jose! The Red Carpet Lounge?? I might have known you would know where to find the boys AND the booze!
Posted by Jrand52 @ 08/22/2003 04:09 AM PST
Ooops... wrote very quickly last night and made a boo-boo..
The lovely gentleman I spoke with at ME's concert was William Duell, not Buell...
But if you loved Cuckoo's Nest as much as I did, you probably knew that already..
Posted by Craig @ 08/22/2003 05:37 AM PST
DR Ron, I knew Carson's "finger" remark wouldn't make it past the NBC censors. Several other things were edited, too, including the discussion about the bedspread not having stripes like John wanted, and Thom pointing out to him it DID have a stripe between the circles. Don't know exactly why that got cut.
Posted by Matt H. @ 08/22/2003 06:14 AM PST
Maybe Irwin Winkler should stick to producing movies, rather than directing. He has had considerably more success in that area.
I caught about one minute of "Queer Eye" last night, and couldn't bear it. The "Fab 5" were so camera-conscious and phony that it was annoying. Are they always like that?
Craig: Melissa Errico and Minnie Driver in the same night??! I officially hate you. ;-)
