Why my dear Emily, such language - and so early in the (PST) morning :)

In CD player, a compilation CD created for me by our very own DR JRand53, with some swell Johnny Mann and his singers songs as well as other lovely tidbits of music that I am enjoying mucho.
In DVD player is another compilation of music scenes from vintage Bollywood movies along with a nice DVD of 15 (count 'em 15) episodes from the Jack Benny television program. Many guest stars including Bob Crosby, Bob Hope, Gisele McKenzie, Jayne Mansfield, Fred Allen, etc.
In tape player will be a 9/11 special I taped last night, but don't know if I am in the mood to watch or not.
Well, off work at 11:30am today and out to lunch with my buddy Mark!

Hellllooooo All on this most beeyootiful Friday!!!
I am sure only a student could possibly be as happy as me to see the end of this awful week. Two weeks down only thirteen more to go until the end of the semester and Christmas break!!! Woohoo! Yippee!
I am writing this from the brand spanking new McGill Arts Undergraduate Lounge and Computer Centre once again, however this time I managed to get my network password to work. I am no longer stuck in MAC limbo. Woohoo! Yippee!
My audio-visual choices for the day:
CD: A certain song cycle from a certain tri-named composer who will remain anonymous for fear of five point essays
MP3: As much from A NEW BRAIN as I could download off of Kazaa. I love love love love love the song "And They're Off!"
DVD: Empty for now, but will hopefully have a copy of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers by tomorrow
VHS: Pilates for Dummies.
CONVERSATION HAD WHICH PROMPTED MY DVD SELECTION: "Why hello Mr. Roll of Fat, what are you doing taking up residence on my stomach? I am sure you are very nice and will keep me warm during the winter but I must insist that you take your baggage and leave as soon as possible"
I ate a poutine yesterday for the first time in ages. It was wonderfully wonderful, but I can't possibly imagine how Pilates will get rid of its not so wonderfully wonderful side effects.
THE LAST TIME I AM GOING TO ASK THIS QUESTION, SO BE WARNED:
If any of you have a tape of Broadway on Broadway, I will sell my soul to see it. Please e-mail me

DVD - SLEEPING BEAUTY and all the extras
CD - An Encores Preview: CAN-CAN, PARDON MY ENGLISH & BYE BYE BIRDIE
VHS - Nothing now. I watched the first episodes of two new series that I shall not be watching again: WHOOPI, an unfunny show with the loudest laughtrack I can recall and HAPPY FAMILY which totally wastes Christine Baranski. All of the un-picked-up pilots on Bravo last week were far superior to these two shows. (Most of the other new shows look so awful I will not even try them once. I can't believe the wonderful Harriet Harris is doing a show about the son of a bartender who gets engaged to a girl who was raised by two gay men.)

I am going to see the French movie 11'09"01 tonight.
The preview looked so fascinating that I'm looking forward to it more than any other film this year.
It's 11 short films, made by 11 directors from 11 different countries, each lasting 11 minutes and nine seconds, plus a single frame. (The title refers to that duration, as well as to the date of the attacks as it would appear on a European calendar.)

Friday!!!!
In my CD player - a Cd I made for DR Kurt to take to him this weekend.
In my DVD player - THE JUDY GARLAND SHOW....the episode with Martha Raye and Peter Lawford always makes me laugh.
In my VCR - RED GARTERS with Miss Rosemary Clooney, Mr Guy Mitchell, Mr Jack Carson, and Ms Cass Daley.
For those who may know...is the Joanne Gilbert featured in this movie the same "daughter of John Gilbert" who was recently featured on a few bumpers on TCM?
Last night I attended a rehearsal for a production of the Edward Albee play THE GOAT/WHO IS SYLVIA?
There is a moment of dance in it, and I was choreographing it for the non-dancing actors! The dance went okay...director only requested one change - and there were only two steps to beging with - but this is one strange play.
If any other DR have seen a production of it, may I have your reactions and comments please.

Ya know, Phil, it's one thing to have the first post, but it's a-fershluganah-nother thing to capture three of the first five in a war with Emily (bad Emily: naughty! naughty!)
: )
Happy Friday to everyone.
Sad day: Johnny Cash and John Ritter have departed this existence.
In my DVD player: Disc 2 of "Sleeping Beauty" Special Edition.
In my CD player: "The Rink" -- haven't played it yet. I'm trying to get my hands on as much Kander and Ebb as I can find.
Anybody here aware of some tapes of the complete original production of "Follies"? I ran across an ad for such tapes at eBay a couple of years ago and the guy selling them said they were stereo, but included audience noises and set-changing noises...but it claimed to be every single note of score of the original production.
Warner Brothers has announced it will produce a fifth Batman movie -- and this time, the caped crusader will be portrayed by Welsh actor Christian Bale, star of "American Psycho." Bale's a fine actor. And a looker. Purportedly, this film will go back to the early years of Batman...when he was just starting out on his quest to help further justice and prevent crime. Could be funny, too!

Very sad to hear about John Ritter and Johnny Cash. I was especially shocked to learn this morning that John Ritter had died. I just saw him on some awards show with son a few weeks ago.
Btw, Noel will there be a cd made of the wedding songs? I think a lot of people here would love to hear them. I am especially curious about this bridesmaids song!

Ron wrote yesterday:
Robert could beat Alison in HOH. He definitely wants to go with Alison to the final two. Jee, Justin, Dana, Nathan, Jack, Erika, and probably Jun, would vote for Robert over Alison. Nathan admits he'd like Alison in the jury house for snuggles -- she's free and easy. But would he vote for her after she duped him and trashed him and accused him of being gay? He's been the fool much too often, but I doubt he's that big a fool.
Jun's the only unsure vote I have -- she might show some loyalty to Ali for picking Erika for eviction over her.
I know Jack and Erika hate Alison and their votes with Jee, Justin and Dana are all that are needed to reward the remaining houseguest.
And I disagree she "deserves" it or "earned" it. She had some incredible luck manipulating Nathan, and her personal strength helped her save her own ass with the vetos.
But if Robert can rise to the occasion, Alison can be beaten.
Heck. I think Rob would win if Jun were left standing with him at the end, too.
Jee, Justin, Dana, Erika and Jack have NO USE WHATEVER for Jun.
That's where both she and Alison have outsmarted themselves.
If it comes down to those two, well...good for them. Then the jury has to decide which person they despise the least. Probably Jun over Alison.
I think Alison has a great shot at finishing 2nd. But I doubt she has any votes to win it all.
I just don't think Rob can win the HOH. And if he doesn't win, I doubt that either Ally or Jun will take him to the finals.
I agree though rob could beat both of them in the jury vote.

Jennifer: From what I recall, I saw the results of HOH last night. Of course, I'm in California and it was after 10 p.m. here when I looked. I recall reading it was over and I was surprised since it wasn't even 11 p.m. here. I don't know how long they stood out there, but it was daylight when it started, I believe.
Well they started at around 9:40pm eastern time (so around 6:40pm pacific). I think the first person came off at 11:30pm eastern. I guess using the snow made it end faster.
The thing I wonder about is ally's sweater. I saw her wearing it before the comp. But she took it off right before it started and placed it in the middle (beside the keys). But when the comp was in progress I saw it on the grass. But the internet sites say that as soon as the live show ended ally was wearing that sweater. So who gave it to her?

come up to me and say hello -
which was very nice as we

I agree, Rob has a very good chance of winning the game if he makes it to the top two. If it ends up being Alison and Jun, I would put my money on Jun, although I don't know if the jury realizes how deceptive and evil Alison has been throughout the game. Jun has been somewhat evil but she was more up-front about it I think, so others might look at Alison as being more innocent when she is not.

Well, my Dear Writer, lovely and perspicacious BK, if you want posts, then we must increase our post production. Perhaps we need a post production coordinator. Wouldn't that be just the ticket? Oh yes, that would be just the ticket.
CD player at work: The new RCA Gigi soundtrack with extras of Leslie Caron singing 3 songs (Betty Wand ended up dubbing her) with André Previn at the piano.
Whilst I was listening to it, I checked the movie out on the IMDB and read the "user reviews". Ain't the internet great? It gives know-nothings the opportunity to opine that Gigi is a lousy movie and the songs are unmemorable and (gasp!) old-fashioned!
VCR: This week's Enterprise, in which our crew goes boldly forward in search of higher ratings using those tried and true formulas for enthralling story-telling: more explosions and more skin.

Thanks, Lulu. For some reason, I thought maybe she had taken the professional name Joanne Gilbert to be introduced in RED GARTERS...that sounds funny.
Anyway...thanks. I thought the lady on TCM recently bore a resemblance to the girl in this 50 year old movie.

Oh -okay...THIS Joanne Gilbert from RED GARTERS is the daughter of Ray Gilbert, the composer, who won an AA for Zippee-Do-Dah!
I wonder who would host a party in the 1970's that would invite BK and John Ritter?

Posted by Jrand53 @ 09/12/2003 09:44 AM PST
Jrand: Leatrice did actually appear in some films from the late '30s until the mid-'40s, but as far as I know they were always uncredited bit parts. I don't think she ever used a stage name. She nearly got a big break when she was seriously considered for the role of Velvet Brown in National Velvet...but we all know how that ended. :)

Emily: "Could I be more excited than I am now?!? I don't think so..." :)
Geek, much? : )
Jennifer: Re: Ali's sweater: Yes, she took it off. So, how did it get back on? She had Jun on one side of her and Rob on the other, and they could all remove one hand from their keys. I'm sure they helped her put it on, one arm at a time, after the first barrage of slush hit them.
MBarnum: The jury knows Alison. Remember that Dana was the first juror to go into that jury house and she hated Alison. Nathan -- poor, brain- dead, whipped Nathan -- knows first-hand her treachery. Jack and Erika have been onto Alison since the very beginning. Jee has never truly trusted her.
Actually, their inability to see what's going on in the house works against Alison whose Diary Room Confessions are coming off as insights into her plan to win and she's making herself out to be a do-whatever-it-takes-to-win survivor. I don't buy it, 'cause I've seen and heard too much of what goes on that CBS doesn't show us each week. But the jurors might buy it if they were allowed to see it. But they're not. They all have good reason to hate her more than Jun or Robert...and most of them seem to admire Robert. It's only Jun and Alison who are really nasty about him, just as they were about Nathan. A couple of manhaters, that's what they seem to be. At least as far as Robert is concerned (and I don't think Alison OR Jun is much of a PRIZE).

While I don't have first-hand

seven weeks to even nod at

have caught her laughing

BK or others in the LA area---
Are any of you planning on going to the 3D Festival at Grauman's Egyptian this weekend? It looks great. Most of the films haven't been shown in 3D for fifty years. If anyone goes, please post a report at this here site.
Whoever asked about THE GOAT---
I saw it shortly after it opened. To me it was the best Albee play since the early 60s even though it is a little strange and leaves a lot open for discussion... but that's what Albee does best. I'm glad to see it is getting produced around the country. Your audiences will either love it or hate it. If you have a good cast, they are in for a very interesting evening of theatre.

And speaking of unusual film presentations in the city of Los Angeles: starting today (and for the next two weeks, I believe), the Cinerama Dome will be showing HOW THE WEST WAS WON in true 3-projector Cinerama with 7-track stereophonic sound, and, according to the flyer I have, "featuring a brilliant new print off the original camera negative, exactly as it was seen in its original 1963 Cinerama roadshow engagement."

Every week Newsday has a page in its Sunday supplement featuring a particular year in the past, #1 Song, Movie, Bestseller, etc., as pertains to the present week.
This week it was 1966, and what was the top box-office draw in September? A Man for All Seasons. It is hard to imagine that happening today.
"In entertainment news this week, A Man for All Seasons left Matrix Recycled in its dust for the tenth week in a row as the prime demographic movie-goers picked intelligent writing, acting and direction over digital violence." Now that would be science fiction.

BK -- Your psychic predictions lately have been phenomenal. You seem to have an uncanny knack for knowing when we are about to hit a certain number of posts -- sometimes at the exact moment it happens.
Perhaps this could be the premise of a new TV detective series. A show about a writer, who solves murders by knowing the exact moment we are going to hit 50 posts. Possibly on the FOX network? What do you think? I smell a hit.

Thanks for THE GOAT comments, Bill. I too think it is one of Albee's best...of course I have only seen it once, and that in rehearsal. The actors are very good - one exception, but he is good. All of the dialog crisp and sparkling, but one exchange that stuck in my mind is....
HUSBAND: I won't do it anymore, I'll stop.
WIFE: It's not about the stopping, it's about the starting.
MBarnum, the Queen of Outer Space, Mona the Reform School Girl, AND BK himself - that will be a lunch to remember. Michael, don't forget your camera. You must share the moments with the rest of the HHW family.

A Man For All Seasons would not even be made today in the form it was made as it received a G Rating. Today a G is the kiss of death for all films except a few animated or children's movies (and even many of them are PG). What was meant as an indication of no sex, bad language and violence now means only for young kids. A Man For All Seasons has absolutely nothing unsuitable for children (thus the G) but absolutely nothing to interest them. It is that rarity today, a G rated film for adults. When John Houston made Annie he had do add the word "damn" to get a PG instead of a G! With a few rare exceptions, a family can no longer go to the movies together. If it's suitable for the kids it usually is a total bore to the adults; if the adults like it, then it either bores the kids or is not suitable for them.

I will start:
Yosimite Sam rigs a piano to explode when Bugs Bunny plays the tune "Endearing Young Charms" (I think), but Bugs of course keeps playing the wrong note, until Sam can stand it no longer, says: "No, you idgit - it goes like this"...plays the correct note and ... blows himself up!

Amongst the plethora of passings into the beyond, Mike Stokey of Pantomime quiz...Does no one other than me remember poor Mike?
On the CD...Johnny Hartman, This One's for Tedi, which has a brilliant rendition of The Ballad of the Sad Young Men from The Nervous Set..
VCR & DVD...Nothing...I've got a deadline line this weekend and I'll be watching nothing...but I have waiting for me when I'm done, a Broadway Archive DVD of School for Scandal and a tape of The Ministry of Fear.

Nothing in any media players. Busy at work with some deadlines and planning a presentation for the office in Cleveland which will happen in November. It it ridculously expensive to try and fly to Cleveland, OH, (a major city in my book) if you don't stay over on a Saturday. Even using Orbitz, etc., it's crazy. Except for Continental, nobody flies nonstop from any of the NYC airports to Cleveland. Argh!
Posted by Ben @ 09/12/2003 12:47 PM PST
I remember Mike Stokey. "Pantomime Quiz" was seen on more stations and in more time slots (usually as a summer replacement) than any show except "The Arthur Murray Dance Party".
Favorite WB Cartoon: All of "What's Opera Doc". A deluxe 4-DVD set of re-mastered classic WB cartoons is being released in November for the older viewers while the younger fans go see "Looney Tunes Back In Action" where the classic characters interact with Brendhan Fraiser and Jenna Elfman.

Burn On
There's a red moon rising
On the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake
There's a red moon rising
ON the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake
There's an oil barge winding
Down the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake
There's an oil barge winding
Down the Cuyahoga River
Rolling into Cleveland to the lake
Cleveland, city of light, city of magic
Cleveland, city of light, you're calling me
Cleveland, even now I can remember
'Cause the Cuyahoga River
Goes smokin' through my dreams
Burn on, big river, burn on
Burn on, big river, burn on
Now the Lord can make you tumble
And the Lord can make you turn
And the Lord can make you overflow
But the Lord can't make you burn
Burn on, big river, burn on
Burn on, big river, burn on

I apologize profusely for my E&Tness over the last week or so. I'm so busy with wedding planning stuff, and of course, my employers have chosen this particular time to be busier than they have ever been since I've worked here! Couldn't they wait a month???
I had the pleasure of hearing Maya's tape of "What More Do I Need" and "Unusual Way", and stayed up way past my bedtime listening and recording comments to her onto a tape. It was way fun, thanks Maya! And a nice diversion from wedding stress. I sent the tape out today, I hope you like it!

I'm methodically making my way through my twenty or so "Capitol Sings" series CDs (each disc highlights the songs of one composer or lyricist (or composer/lyricist, as the case may be.)) This week I have Duke Ellington and George Gershwin in the CD player in my automobile. Keeping them company are the OBC recording of GUYS AND DOLLS, Carly Simon's "My Romance" album and Sarah Vaughn's "Golden Hits" album. There's a sixth CD in the changer, too, but for the life of me I can't remember what I put in there. I guess I will be pleasantly surprised when it comes up.

Posted by Jay @ 09/12/2003 02:11 PM PST
Joy--thanks so much for the nice comments about my tape, and I absolutely can't wait to hear your comments! We've missed you here and I for one am looking forward to hearing all about the wedding when you become "Joy, Joy, married lady." Okay, that didn't work as well without the rhyme, but you know what I meant!

And while I'm in such a talky mood, I should let our Dear Readers know that I had a double celebrity encounter the other evening at my favorite celebrity encounter locale.
It was opening night of the Los Angeles Opera on Wednesday evening, and I was there to see the company's new production of THE DAMNATION OF FAUST, by Berlioz. During the intermission, I answered nature's call in the restroom immediately adjacent to the large bar on the promenade level of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. When I was done (yes, I washed my hands), I exited and began to make my way through the crowd. As I did so, whom should I literally come face to face with but Mr. Jack Nicholson. I recognized him even though he was NOT wearing those dark glasses that he tends to ridiculously wear indoors. He was having what appeared to be a rather jovial conversation with Miss Diane Keaton. It was very crowded and difficult to get by, so I said, "Excuse me" and Mr. Nicholson made way for me to pass. End of encounter. Isn't that just too too? I know all you dear readers have fainted away from the excitement of it all, but I am more than sure that you will get over it.

I am going to visit the lovely and ailing Miss Doris Dowling on Saturday. If any of you remember her from LOST WEEKEND or THE BLUE DAHLIA or BITTER RICE or Orson Welles' OTHELLO, among many other terrifc performances... and you have something to say that I can pass on to make her feel wonderful, please let me know.
Posted by Panni @ 09/12/2003 02:25 PM PST
Panni -- You know, Lost Weekend is such a painful film to watch, in the same way that Midnight Cowboy is painful, but the acting in it is superb. Ray Milland is wonderful, but Miss Dowling's performance as Gloria is the one that haunts you long after you see the film. What a joy it must be for you to know an artist of her caliber. Please tell her that I send my thanks for sharing her great talent with all of us.
Posted by TCB @ 09/12/2003 02:45 PM PST
DR Panni--DR JR and I are probably the only two people on earth who would beg you to ask Ms. Dowling about her work on "The Party Crashers," with Frances Farmer and Bobby Driscoll. Any Farmer anecdotes would be cherche! Is she related to Eddie Dowling?
Posted by JMK @ 09/12/2003 02:52 PM PST
Jay, the story of your celebrity encounter is as exciting as the time I met Brent Barrett.

Hello fellow readers and BK, how are we all? I hope you all had splendid Friday's, I know I did, and I'm also babysitting tonight to make some mucho bucks, so all is great :)
In my CD Player: Typical teenager band "Jimmy Eat World". Listening to this CD just makes me happy, I don't know why.
In my DVD Player: American Pie One and Two. I love these movies, awful as they may be.
In my VHS: Some home videos from when I was an annoying, ugly little kid that make me laugh.
In my Tape Player: Well, SOON to be in my tape player, Maya's tape. My tape player ate the test tape, so I have to get it fixed or use someone elses.
Hmm...Today's posts were very fun to read! As I sit here and chew my Orbit gum (peppermint, the best, for those who care), I laughed quite a few times while reading.
Oh, and I'm writing a term paper for History, and my topic of choice is Art History. I'm going to compare the lifestyles and techniques of Da Vinci and "Mona Lisa" to Michelangelo and "The Last Supper". If any of you have some good information that you think might help me out, it would be GREATLY appreciated :)

Jrand53 -- I didn't have the SLEEPING BEAUTY pop up book, but I did have the Deluxe Colorforms set. Man, did I play with those things until I wore them out. Who remembers Colorforms?
Media Update -

I have returned from my long ordeal in Los Angeles. I spent a week at the hospital every day before my father passed away. I was glad his suffering was over and the end was peaceful. My father was ninety years old and a practicing physician until he was eighty. Dayrl Hickman (brother of Dwayne) and Alison Arngrim from "Little House on the Prarie" were patients of his. Marjorie Bennett was also his patient. Does anyone remember her?
I just returned from a visit to the doctor as I have a rather dry, tight cough and cold I can't get rid of. Now I found out something interesting I thought I would share. She said to eat watermelon for colds. The liquid in it is especially good. So I bought a huge watermelon which unfortunately isn't very good. But I am eating it. I have had four large slices and am stuffed. Now I know why watermelon is good to eat when you want to loose weight.

Thank you, DR's. I'll ask about Miss Farmer and I'll pass on your compliments to Doris. As for being related, her sister was the actress, Constance Dowling ("the beautiful Dowling sisters"). I agree about the character of Gloria living inside the viewer long after the film. If I remember the story correctly, it was a role she almost didn't get because she was considered the wrong "type" ... However, her boyfriend (that would be Billy Wilder)insisted that she could do it.

Ron P - Having worked with her (a very good experience) Diane K is actually very much like Annie Hall (who was absolutely not sleek and cool). She's funny, bright, eccentric and endearingly insecure.
Posted by Panni @ 09/12/2003 03:26 PM PST
DR Ron--
Actually, I've sighted Miss Keaton once before, at a very popular antiques center in Pasadena. (She has made quite a living--beyond her Hollywood career--buying run down houses, refurbishing them and decorating them with antiques, and then selling them for quite a profit.) "Cool" is a good word to use, because she struck me as being very self-confident and determined in whatever mission she was on that previous time I spotted her. I did not get close enough to her on either occasion to smell what fragrance, if any, she might be wearing.
Posted by Jay @ 09/12/2003 03:30 PM PST
Well, maybe she was self-confident for that one moment I saw her.

DR TCB--
Hey! I've been in the same room with BB, the WSM on several occasions. Of course, each time, the room was a theatre and he was on one side of the footlights and I on the other. Does that count?

Jay--great Jack Nicholson story! Has he ever been in a movie with Diane Keaton? I'd love to see them do a film together, preferably one by Woody Allen!
Jane--So sorry to hear about your father! My condolences.
Vintage (and not Old) Laura--I am simply beside myself to hear your BB story! Was he terribly suave and dashing? Please tell us! :)
Posted by Maya @ 09/12/2003 03:56 PM PST
Jay: My last word on the self-confident vs.insecure debate: I think one can be both. Some of the most "self-confident" people I know are also quite insecure. (This comment has nothing to do with D.K. - it's just a general observation.)BTW - I don't look at being insecure as a negative judgement of character.
Who among us is secure in his/her talent, beauty, intelligence, whatever...take your choice. Okay, back to work.

Jane, I am so sorry about your father. I was wondering how things were going for you. Please accept my condolences. We missed you here on HHW! And oh my gosh yes, I know who Marjorie Bennett is...she was in a million movies and tv episodes!
Matt H....I don't know yet which episode on the Jack Benny DVD has Giselle M. or if it is the one that has the violin duo. I haven't come across that one yet as I am only on # 3 of 15 episodes! But whichever one it is, it's bound to be funny. The Fred Allen episode was hilarious!

Anyway, I am being creative right now. I had the idea to put together a collage of photos of my favorite Broadway men that I will later hang up in my room. Let's just say there is a LOT of Brent and Stokes and I may be adding some Gavin Creel later....Any other suggestions? ;)

Fridays are SO exhausting, what with the long trip to New Jersey to teach a college class. I had them sing today. One guy, whom I'd had much faith in, sang six bars of Giants in the Sky and stopped, unable to continue. It was clear to me he was judging himself, and, unhappy with the sound he was making, froze up. So, with that student, my goal is clear: getting him to stop judging himself.
I was also able to steer two fairly proficient singers away from two Frank Wildhorn songs without saying "Look, it's most important to me that you act your songs, and you just can't pick songs that give you nothing to act." The "Someone Like You" girl is moving on to "Can't Help Lovin' That Man." By the end of the term, I hope they'll understand why a line like "we were cut from the same surly star" can never be performed effectively.

Dear Reader Maya:
Messrs. Barrett and Mitchell make an excellent start. Your collage would be seriously lacking if it did not contain photos of--oh, just to name a few off the top of my head--Douglas Sills, Hugh Panaro, Malcolm Gets and Jason Graae.
Okay, now the entire world of HHW knows my taste in men.

Oh yes. Davis Gaines, too, for those occasions when only a blond will do.

The planning of the bachelor party is now complete, which is a huge load off my mind. It will be very fun and very musical theatre-related.
Yes, Jennifer, we do plan to record a CD of Our Wedding, the musical, and offer it for sale. I'm very nervous about getting the recording to sound right, since I'm no BK. (In fact, I'm in great need of a BK. Perhaps Guy Haines could be sent in his stead?)
A whole lot happened with the wedding night song this week. The first draft, which the bride had deemed too dirty was sent to the best man, and she agreed with the bride. Totally inappropriate, and, besides, why are they talking about what she should do to you? Before I got her comments, I cleaned it up a little and shortened it on Wednesday, and this draft was sent to the bridesmaids, who will actually sing it. And they love it. They can't understand anybody finding it too dirty. So that was something of a victory.
VCR has that PBS documentary about Elia Kazan and Arthur Miller. I forget the name of it. Something like Sinner Qua None
CD this week is the Far From Heaven soundtrack by E. Bernstein
Can't make chat Monday as the bride and I are supposed to get a dancing lesson from our choreographer. BK -- do not park on Hollywood Blvd.

MBarnum - I met Doris about ten years ago when I was producing a show on which her husband, Len Kaufmann, was was one of the writers. ...Which I found slightly embarrassing - as I was probably twenty years younger than he was. He's a dear sweet secure man, however, so it didn't bother him in the least. We became friends and he introduced me to Doris. Doris and I really hit it off. She's a brilliant woman who reads voraciously, has seen and met everyone worth meeting - from Henry Miller (who drew her) to Hemingway - and tells a wicked story. What's not to like? My then nine-year-old daughter also became a great buddy of Doris'. The two of them would sometimes go off together - and my daughter would come back fully outfitted in some new, very sophisticated, elegant outfit - hat included, natch - which Doris had let her pick out on her own - giving her fashion advice, I'm sure - and then purchased for her. (BTW - Doris was married to Artie Shaw - not alone in that category - but is, I believe, alone, in having his only child, Jon Shaw.) Jon is a renowned tatoo artist and Doris, who is incredibly elegant, sports two tattoos - one of which says "MOM"...
Long answer to a short question.

I rode in an elevator with a famously handsome man this week. The woman I was with blurted out "You're on television, aren't you?" and he shyly nodded. They then established that they were both going to see the same director, she for an audition and he for a rehearsal of Nine. (The show, you should know, has only one adult male role.) She said "Nine! I'm dying to see that. When's Antonio Bandaras leaving?" His now-in-rehearsal replacement, John Stamos, politely gave the answer.
I was cringing so much I dented the elevator.

Lulu! I thought I was the only one who knew about Story Records from Disney! I had the Picture-Discs, which featured photos encased in a clear LP. I loved them so much...I wonder where they are now.
I, myself, had two celebrity encounters today. I nearly ran into Mr. Jerry Orbach on 54th Street on my way to MTI, and then I walked beside, but not with, Mr. Jim Walton (of MERRILY WE ROLL ALONG fame) on my way to the subway to get home. It was quite exciting, but not as exciting as Jack and Diane.
Maya: I want to hear you sing! And if I may suggest a few guys for your collage: Max von Essen from DOTV (www.maxvonessen.com), Joe Machota from MAMMA MIA!, Norbert Leo Butz, Matt Morrison (from HAIRSPRAY), Howard McGillin, Matt Bogart, Danny Gurwin (from FULL MONTY), Patrick Wilson, Matt Cavanaugh, Michael Park, Roger Bart, Brian d'Arcy James, John Hill (from HAIRSPRAY and BOY FROM OZ...ask Craig for info), Hugh Jackman and Malcolm Gets. How's that for a list?
I could suggest a list of women for you, too, but I don't think you'd be very interested in putting them up on your wall.
