December 13, 2003:
"BEATING A HASTY RETREAT"

Photo of Bruce Kimmelbk's notes II

Well, dear readers, you know what day this is but in case you’ve forgotten I shall tell you what day this is because why should I keep such things from you? Today is the day when she of the Evil Eye comes and so I must beat a hasty retreat before her arrival. Have you ever beat a hasty retreat and, if so, what did the hasty retreat do to you to deserve such treatment. Can you beat a non-hasty retreat? What the hell am I talking about?

Have I mentioned that I shall have to beat a hasty retreat because she of the Evil Eye will be here shortly? Yesterday, I had a very busy day at work but now I have two glorious days to relax and recuperate, not necessarily in that order. I only have one thing I need to do, and otherwise I shall sit on my couch like so much fish and watch movies on DVD. Isn’t that exciting? Isn’t that just too too?

Well, why don’t we beat a hasty retreat and click on the Unseemly Button below because she of the Evil Eye will be here all too soon.

Yesterday I ate a sandwich from some place called Quizno’s. I didn’t find it all that yummiliscious, but it was certainly acceptable as a foodstuff – next time, however, I shall try an altogether different sandwich. Look how I am prattling on about a sandwich when I must beat a hasty retreat.

Whilst on my hasty retreat I shall be picking up some brand spanking new Jacques Demy DVDs. Jacques Demy, for those not in the know, is the marvelous director of The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort. There are about four films out this week, most of which predate Umbrellas. I’m very excited to see them.

Well, dear readers, I must take the day, I must do the things I do, I must go hither and thither and also yon. Today’s topic of discussion: Since Mr. Demy’s favorite composer is Mr. Michel Legrand, what are your favorite grand Legrand songs (I’m sure we’ve done this before, but maybe we haven’t, and yet maybe we have)? I’ll start – You Must Believe in Spring (from Rochefort), I Will Wait For You (from Umbrellas), The Summer Knows (from Summer of ’42), How Do You Keep The Music Playing, What are You Doing the Rest of Your Life, The Windmills of Your Mind and tons of others. Your turn. Let’s have loads of lovely posts, shall we, so that when I return from beating a hasty retreat I shall have lovely reading matter for my mental delectation.
