Well, you've read the notes, you're feeling fine and fruity for having read the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the fruity cows come home.

Quote from Rodzinski at the end of last night's notes...
Quote
Where is he when he's supposed to be onstage??

I was doing I Remember Mama a few years back as Papa, and I had a scene that began with me clowning around with my youngest daughter with some sugar cubes. Curtain opens, lights up, me at kitchen table, NO DAUGHTER! I ad-libbed something lame like, "Such a morning!" It was a nightmare. Then as another actress shows up to cover, the daughter comes running on. She had been having fun with friends and forgot about her scene. Egads

Apparently he "got caught up in a conversation in the dressing room," causing his missed entrance.

I, too, played Papa once, back in high school.  Don't recall my Dagmar ever being missing, thankfully.

I'm hopeful that OzDerek is well enough to see "Dirty Dancing" - previews here this weekend - (not the Lambada) this evening. He will post a report if has been able to attend.

I have a complete run, Volume one all the way through the current volume (a new one comes out later this year).  All in jacket except five.  It's amazing to see who was on Broadway back in the late forties and early fifties.

Blueberries, yeah. Having an army of kids as me mother did, she would take us to these U PICK places in Indiana. We'd be given plastic buckets and told to go fill them with blueberries. Take them home, freeze them. Cold blueberries on a day like today would be swell.

That Tarriers single is another I "inherited" from my mom's box o' 45s. Has a great b-side called "No Hidin' Place".

Tomovoz, do you have a song called "The Cheater" by Bob Kuban and the In-men? I can't find this by hook or crook.

Cool, Tom. You let me know if you ever need any tunes. Although I think you said you have every pop hit through the 70s or so!
I mis-read your dog joke. You beat me fair and square!

The Monkees have a tune called "Apples, Peaches, Bananas and Pears" which might hold the fruit-song record.

Title: Re:ALL THINGS FRUIT
Post by: bk on June 11, 2005, 01:02:13 AM
Oh, Lord yes - tons more shows.  A typical season back then would yield ten to fifteen new musicals (more, as some of them closed on the road) and a plethora of new comedies and dramas, as well as a revival or two.  You just thumb through these things and sit with your mouth open - it's unbelievable the way it used to be.  And the stars - you wouldn't believe the people who played Broadway season after season.  Today is rather pitiful in comparison.

Well, I must toddle off to the bedroom environment to get some beauty sleep.

It's funny how our entertainment choices in so many media have decreased with time, when by all rights, they should have increased.  I speak here of fewer movies in wide release, fewer record labels, fewer unique radio stations, fewer Broadway shows...

It's odd, but your mention of the Jay and the Techniques song actually made me think of the Kuban song. I associate the songs in my mind for some odd reason. Of course, there is no way you could have known that, so now I don't know if this makes it more or less of a coindicence. It's a paradox.

A paradox driving me to sleep.

DR Matt H queeried yesterday:

Could it be FIDDLER ON THE ROOF with Hershell Bernardi?

I would say no because:

1) The narration intro to each song although written by Joseph Stein did not appear in the show.

2) Included "When Messiah Comes"

3) Included a song written for the album "Fiddler On the Roof"

4) Hershell Bernardi sang all the songs

5) Some songs (if not all) used the alternate "pop lyrics"

6) The original orchestrations were not used.

TOD: Paul Lynde

and since his show and Elizabeth Allen were mentioned the other day.........

Is this the Elizabeth Allen who was in Do I Hear a Waltz? or the Elizabeth Allen who was married to Robert Montgomery and was Elizabeth Montgomery's mother?
Title: Re:ALL THINGS FRUIT

Actually the third show just came to me.

Beyond the Fringe

The original was recorded  In June of 1962
The second one was recorded in January of 1964
The second recording had a cast replacement: Paxton Whitehead.

Even though (I believe) the show was still called Beyond the Fringe the album was called Beyond the Fringe 64 to show it was a new and different recording from the original cast. Both featured material that was in the show.

I still believe I'm right about it's being LORELEI; also, DRMattH, what I said about the HELLO DOLLY! recording with Mary Martin was that it was ESSENTIALLY the national tour cast; the show began its tour in Cncinnati, headed west, went to Viet Nam and ended up in London.  There were cast replacements but I believe all the leads on the recording were seen by me at the Shubert Theatre in Cincinnati.

I'd forgotten about the second BEYOND THE FRINGE recording; wasn't it called something like "Son of . . ."?

DRJed, we agree on the plum song.

Favorite fruit:  Richard Simmons.

I think the key word is Broadway cast recording.

The first Lorelei recording was for the Tour. The second Lorelei recording was for the version that ending up on Broadway.

Just as Mary Martin was the London/tour recording it does not qualify.

The 2nd Fringe recording was

Beyond the Fringe '64

Well, I was thinking about shows that got more than one recording, and I was pondering the Mary Martin, which was essentially the national tour cast.  I didn't come to the conclusion this was the recording in question.  It's also possible that the comment starting this whole megillah is incorrect, but God forbid a press rep would ever release false information!

Good Morning!

I'm up!  I'm up!

Why am I up?!?!?!?

Well, I'll tell you why I'm up...

Remember me mentioning that Steve's new condo seems to have a "sound insulation" problem... Well, it still has it.

:(

Around 6:30 this morning, I started hearing a conversation between a man and a woman.  It was nothing unseemly or scandalous, just a conversation.  It was muffled enough to the point where I was not able to follow the conversation, but a few words did pop hear and there, and it also sounded like there were packing - for a day trip, perhaps?  Well... the conversation was coming from the other side of Steve's bedroom wall.  -And, actually, when I went into the bathroom later, the conversation was a little more distinct/louder.  Ah, well...

I know it's been bugging Steve - and it should.  He spent a good chunk of money on this new place, and now to find that even regular levels of conversation can be heard through the walls...  Hmmm... Now that is unseemly.

And that's why I'm up.

I may head back to bed in a few - Steve managed to sleep through it - or at least fall back asleep.  But there are a few errands I need to run, and I may just head out in a few and take care of them before the heat and humidity really kick in today.  Possibly mid-90s!  And LOTS O' HUMIDITY!  -Ugh.

Ah.. I just missed you... But....

Good Morning, Tom.

As for the season opener of "Six Feet Under"... Very well done.  Tied up some loose ends.  Untied some new ones.  And the opening "Who's gonna die tonight?" sequence was fun/interesting.

No real envelopes pushed, imho, but left plenty of room to do so.  And if they do get pushed, I think I'll like it anyway.

;)

On a personal note, like a lot of episodes of "Six Feet Under", the one we watched last night was... well...  They can be hard to watch with someone you love... used to love... still love... etc.  For worse.  Or for better.

As for fruit...

I like basically everything I've tried and tasted so far...

Berries are great - Blueberries, strawberries (so hard to find true, sweet, vine-ripened ones lately), raspberries, blackberries, marionberries, huckleberries, etc...

Grapes - Red and White Seedless... Frozen!  :)  I recently had some real Concord Grapes.  Very good.  Amazingly juicy.

Mangos, pineapple, papaya...

Grapefruit can be good too - sliced in half, topped with brown sugar, then put under the broiler for a few.  ;)  I didn't try this until a few years ago.  I had read about it in various cookbooks - and had seen it done on some 60s and 70s sitcoms, but just never got around to trying it.  But when I did... :)

Bananas are good too - but boy is it easy to overdo them too.

Just read this on the internet:

"Universal has released specs on three new releases in its Legacy Series . The Deer Hunter, To Kill a Mockingbird and The Sting will all get the special edition treatment on September 6th , priced at $26.98 a pop. Specific details are coming soon… "

Well, I am no fan of THE DEER HUNTER, and the last issue of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD was pretty special, I thought, but I could not be MORE delighted about THE STING, a film that is LONG overdue for a remastered, special edition treatment.

This is good news (a DeSylva, Brown, and Henderson reference) indeed!

I, too, very much enjoyed the season premiere of SIX FEET UNDER, and though the tone was fairly dark and ominous throughout (except with Keith and David), I still find the characters all totally fascinating and will go with them anywhere the writers want to take me.

Many people were disenchanted with SIX FEET UNDER last season because Nate was an emotional wreck, and there was so much edgy bitterness and melancholy about the characters, but I had no problem with ANY of that. Most of them were in bad emotional places, and it took some time for some of them to see daylight. Some of them are still searching for it.

Oh, my, an early morning frenzy! 77 posts by 9:40am.

I'm up. I'm up (a BK and JS reference).

No plans today until this evening when Mr. Moore and I will sup, probably uptown.

They say it won't be as hot but you can't trust those weather people. I need to get some breakfast. My yogurt went bad so I can't have any of that.

I love most fruit, especially blueberries and strawberries. Peaches, apples, oranges, grapefruit (when Anthony is home we usually have grapefruit with our breakfast on Saturday and Sunday), nectarines, seedless grapes, cherries, raspberries, kiwi, and since they techncally are considered a fruit, tomatoes.

After breakfast, we walked around Shockoe Bottom for a little bit.  This was the part of town that was hit bad by Gaston last summer, and Isabel the summer before.  Lots of flooding and water damage.  This was the first time either of us had been down there in a while, and even though it was nice seeing a bunch of the stores and restaurants recovered and reopened, there were still a lot of places closed up.

We passed one place where there was still mud caked onto the venetian blinds in the front windows.  There was another space we looked into where the floor was all rubble from water bubbling up through the sewer system.  Lots of "For Rent" signs up.  And lots of spaces still looking beyond being rent-able.

Over in the Farmer's Market area, there was some sort of pet and animal fair going on today.  There was even a small petting zoo with a llama!  Lots of vendors.  Lots of dogs sniffing each other.  I hope to make it back for one of the Thursday "Fresh Markets" - there are some great produce vendors.  And some ice cream and sorbet ones too!

One vendor that made Steve and I laugh out loud was a gentleman selling European style breads.  The name of his company was "No Wonder" with the logo being the word "Wonder" behind the red circle with the slash through it.  Next time, I'll buy one of the t-shirts.

I think we're gonna go shopping later this afternoon.  We're both just taking care of 'stuff' for a little bit here.  Steve is in the middle of duplicating CDs from the latest Richmond Men's Chorus concert.  He even designs the CD cases.  Ands puts them together.  Thankfully, they usually only get orders for about 80 of them from each concert, so it's pretty reasonable for him to do on his own.  However, the RMC is springing for a 7-CD duplication machine sometime soon.  At least Steve hopes it's coming soon.

If I had to pick a least favorite..hmmm...maybe pears only because they are sort of messy to eat.

My favorite way of eating  fruit is in a pie...love berrie pies!!

You are cruel, BK.  You are the elixer of cruelty.

Right when I'm in my first week as a supermarket cashier, you ask about favorite fruits?  Do you have any idea what it's like, trying to remember all those codes for the veggies and fruits, so that I don't have to look them up each and every time?

Bananas - 4011
Limes - 4048
Lemons - 4958
Apricots - 4218

Fortunately, most of the fruits that are sold have those little stickers, with the codes printed on them.  Yep, those little stickers that are stuck on each and every fruit, that you have to peel off before you eat them.  They're there for us checkers, to tell us what the code is.  We punch in the code on our keypad, and whether it's by weight or by the number of that fruit being sold, and everything is computed for us.  Danged handy, but it helps if we memorize them, just because it's faster.

Yesterday went pretty well; I was training on one of the fast lanes, with a limit on how much was supposed to be in each cart (fifteen items).  But when it slows down, there's no problem with calling someone over to the fast lane, to help them get out more quickly.  I did exactly this, of course, when I saw a befuddled-looking grandmother trying to decide where to go.  She had a fairly full cart, but there were no other customers in my lane.

It turned out that she was the head of a clan of eight, with three filled carts waiting to be checked out!  I had a ball, trying to keep everything moving smoothly, and I had to bag everything myself, as the baggers were all working in other lanes.  The grandmother and I were laughing about it all, having a grand time!  And, when I told Dixie, the shift manager, what had happened, her only negative comment was that I should have turned off my "fifteen items" light, so that other customers wouldn't get frustrated.  Heck, I'll take negative comments like that any day, if they're constructive and can help me do my job better!

Cilantro - 4889
Parsley - 4899

Broccoli (by the bunch) - 4060
Broccoli (crowns only) - 3082
White Corn (sold by the ear) - 4077

(Corn looks particularly good this year.  I didn't know what fresh corn could taste like until I moved here!)

I think the key word is Broadway cast recording.

The first Lorelei recording was for the Tour. The second Lorelei recording was for the version that ending up on Broadway.

Just as Mary Martin was the London/tour recording it does not qualify.

Correct.  This is how I understood the conversation.

The 2nd Fringe recording was

Beyond the Fringe '64

I don't know the show, but was the Beyond the Fringe '64 the same show just with different people or was it like Forbidden Broadway, where there was a new edition?

Good Afternoon!

Well, I think we're about to head out... I think...

I'm done paying my bills, and catching up on my newspapers.  And Steve has been tracking down MIDI files for some of the pieces he'll be doing rehearsal CDs.  Luckily, most of it classical and in public domain, so he's been finding most of it.  Unfortunately(?), it's Christmas music.  So... Well, at least I won't have to be here listening to it day in and out for a few weeks.  But, maybe the Christmas music will help ease the heat and humidity of the Richmond summer for Steve.  And his neighbors!  ;)

While browsing the Sprint PCS site, I decided to check out the Ring Tones section.  Who knew?!?!?  I could have songs from Avenue Q, Wicked, Fiddler on the Roof, or even Hair and Hairspray as my ring tones.  Pop, Hip-Hop, Country, Jazz, Gospel, etc.  There's even College Fight Songs.

My "favorite" section was there ones with the Spanish woman's (voice) reading sexy greetings.."Hey, Papi.."  Unfortunately, there was no sexy man's voice... But I'm sure there's a website for those too somewhere.  And that search shall have to wait for another day.  Or not.

The Kiwis are Going Native!  They're Taking Over!!! (http://www.scoop.co.nz/stories/AK0506/S00047.htm)

Quote
Wild kiwifruit are serious environmental weeds. Vines pose a danger to native bush and exotic forest, as they are very long-lived and grow prolifically, strangling and even breaking trees. A single 30-year-old wild vine can smother 1000 square metres of scrub and young bush.

Today is SUPER SATURDAY (http://www.evergreen.edu/supersaturday/) at The Evergreen State College!  It's their annual celebration!:

Super Saturday is the premiere event for The Evergreen State College and the largest one-day arts, crafts and music festival in [Washington] state, offering a wide variety of entertainment and attractions to nearly 20,000 attendees. June 11th marks the 27th Annual Super Saturday where people from all over the community will travel to the Evergreen campus to explore the arts and crafts of over a hundred vendors, experience 30 live performances from bands, dancers and other artists; and take in a number of fun kids’ activities, not to mention loads of great food!

I'm on my way (a Wise Guys/Bounce reference) and will eat my way across campus.  They have so many different things, and it's the first appearance of the year of the Demo Burger! (as opposed to the Republican shredded beef or chicken or whatever it is that they sell ::).)

After that I might be going to a co-worker's 60th birthday (no gifts, please) party.  I'm still not sure if I want to go, but we'll see what it'll be like after SUPER SATURDAY (http://www.evergreen.edu/supersaturday/)!

As for fruits, bananas, oranges, grapes, grapefruit, pineapple, peaches, cherries, blueberries (mainly only in pies or yogurt, though), lemons, limes, watermelon.

Fruits I don't like:  papaya, cantaloupe, honeydew, kiwi, raspberries, blackberries.

That's it for now. :)

Ooh, I love fruit. My favorites are kiwis (I can swallow a kiwi whole, but my mom gets mad when I do that), cucumbers and little baby corns (both ingredients of floop), chocolate, and of course cherries and the cola fruit (Cherry Coke!). Black olives and bell peppers are good too. And apples. McIntosh apples. I also like the wolffia fruit, although I've never seen one. It's the world's smallest fruit, slightly smaller than a grain of salt.

My least favorite fruits are FIGS, bananas, coffee, okra, and I'm sure there are more.

Tom, thanks for your greeting. I will tell Anthony.

True, I'm not on much during the weekend, but with my husband gone I must find things with which to occupy my time. This fills the bill nicely.

Also going to a movie w/DR Elmoore (AKA Larry). We are thinking about Cinderella Man. Larry should be on his way home from 14th Street now and we will meet up around 5:30.

It's been hot but not as hot as yesterday. Tomorrow is supposed to be VERY hot (90 degrees) and there's a parade in town (you know the reference don't you???). The Puerto Rican Day Parade will wind its way up Fifth Avenue and then in two weeks the Gay Pride March will work its way down Fifth Avenue to Christopher Street and Hudson.

Enough of schedules for summer fun in New York. I must go now and do things to prepare for Larry. It's hot and I must perform my mid-afternoon abloutions (almost a Sweeney reference but not quite).

Bye!

If you go to CINDERELLA MAN, we (or some of us) will want to hear how sexy Craig Bierko is (playing champion Max Baer). I know the character is portrayed as a ferocious, lip-snarling villain in the movie (his real-life son - Jethro Bodine - has already lodged his complaints about the decidedly negative depiction of his father for the sake of a dramatic arc; i.e. hero versus villain), but I want to get your take on his looks, etc. Supposedly, he underwent a tremendous physical regime to bulk up for the role since Max Baer was known to have a perfect physique (and if you ever see THE PRIZEFIGHTER. AND THE LADY with Baer and Myrna Loy, you'll know he did.)

You beat me to the punch, DR Michael Shayne. Mary Martin NEVER played Broadway with HELLO, DOLLY, and the entire discussion was (supposed to be) about Broadway cast replacements re-recording the Broadway score on a new album.

Well, I was actually speculating on possibilities, but it certainly got a lot of panties into bunches!  I forgot one of the most famous examples:  COMPANY, which replaced Dean Jones' vocals with Larry Kert's, for the "London cast recording" but kept everything else from the Broadway cast recording.

Did anyone mention this recording and I missed it?  I hate being dragged over the coals!

I love fruit.  Favorites include pears, blueberries, raspberries, and grapes.  I used to hate bananas, but now I'm rather fond of them.  Apples, I can take them or leave them.  Oranges are okay, but too often dry and hard to peel.  The little Satsumas and tangerines are a huge favorite of mine.  I often buy a box or four during the holiday season :)

I believe Forbidden Broadway "closes" inbetween editions or else Forbidden Broadway would have a lot more performances than attributed 2,232 performances (1982-1987) of its original run.

Beyond the Fringe never closed. Its name change came in January of '64 and it closed fice months later.

There is a Beyond the Fringe '65 billed as an return engagement without any of the original players. So really was revival and ran only 30 performances

DR Michael Shayne, I'm not sure I understood your question, but the Elizabeth Allen of DO I HEAR A WALTZ did play Paul Lynde's wife on his first TV series.

My question was that. Was the tv wife of Paul Lynde in The Paul Lynde Show the Elizabeth Allen who was in Do I Hear a Waltz or the Elizabeth Allen that was married to Robert Montgomery and was Elizabeth Montgomery's mother.

The answer as you stated is the former.

Thank you for straightening it out.

I'm back from a somewhat distressing casting session.  I must say, I am sometimes appalled by how not so good many actors are.  This character is so on the page that all you have to do is read the dialogue and you'll pretty much at least have the basics of it.  But, we had some actors who put so much "acting" on top of it, and acting that was not suited to the character, that we all just sat there with our mouths open.  I didn't see anyone who I would even call back.  So, we may have to have another session.

Spent several midday hours helping at the garage sale.  One of my friends came in to help and spotted a brown leather Eisenhower-style jacket and said, "This would be great for the right person."  I realized that the "right person" was probably just crawling out of bed at home, so I called DS Rob and he walked over and bought the jacket for $7.50.  It looks like it was made for him.  Just had an email from the AAUW branch president, thanking everybody for their efforts and announcing that we made about $1000 for our scholarship fund.

Late this afternoon, DH Richard, DS Rob, and I went to see the Star Wars movie (which they had each already seen, separately).  I liked it, especially the lead-in to the "old" first SW movie, which we're watching now.

Goodness, have I neglected to tell the HHW about my new job?  Shame on me.  My new job, which I've been at for exactly a month now, is at a place called ACAP Child and Family Services.  I forget what CAP stands for, but the "A" stands for Auburn, which is the city it's located in.  It's a daycare, but also a resource center for parents...particularly teen and foster parents.  So there are parenting classes, health programs, general financial aid programs, etc.  I work in all the classrooms, so I care for infants on up through 5 year olds.  I absolutely love it.

Jed's interview, btw, is on Tuesday, time TBA.

Speaking of Jed, I'm off to see AGYG tonight!  I finally get to see TCB and Jed in action.  I will, of course, have a full report for ya'll upon my return :)

The Lovely Wife and I actually spent the afternoon in the Wood of Holly on the boulevard of the same name.  venerable Book City where I first worked when I came out here has lost its lease and is closing its doors.  You might want to stop down there, BK.  The owner gave me a fifty percent discount on stuff.  Don't know whether that's regular discount or just for me, but they are a-wheeling and dealing.  Trouble is Book City's prices are somewhat high on a lot of stuff and a lot of good stuff is long gone.  But  I'm sure you can still find great deals.

I'll be sorry to see another icon leave Hollywood Boulevard.  When I first came out there were probably a dozen great bookstores of H.B. well over half great used bookshops.  Once Book City leaves, only Larry  edmunds will be left...and even it is a shadow of its former self.

In fact the whole character of the street has changed.  Even though it was a tad seedy, it was individualistic and unique.  Now it's become so homogenized.  We walked up to the mall on the corner of Hollywood and Highland and it could be almost anyplace in America, shop-wise.  Sad.  Sad.  Sad.

And isn't Margeurite in Germany known as Faust elsewhere?

;)

Oui!  Those Germans don't want Charles Gounod polluting their Goethe.

No one did as far as I remember. But isn't that what they did with the Grease and Wonderful Town for Brook Shields?

Yup.  They just recorded her vocal tracks and the rest of the CD was from the original release/cast.  Kiss of the Spider Woman and the Pearl Bailey Hello, Dolly! were entirely new recordings.

With the Pearl Bailey HELLO DOLLY!, the entire cast was replaced by an all-black cast; it wasn't a case of bringing in a new star.  When I saw Ginger Rogers do HELLO DOLLY!,  some original cast members like Sondra Lee were still in it.  I have no idea why BMG did a whole new cast with Vanessa Williams; perhaps it was contractual?

Well, I'm back from Super Saturday at The Evergreen State College.  I walked around and bought my Demo Burger and Diet Pepsi, then I had a chocolate turtle crepe.  It sounds better than it was, though.  It wasn't bad, but just not great.  Anyway, I didn't buy anything, but there was a lot to be bought.  There were several stages around the campus with performers performing all day.  Talk about festive! ;D

After that I was planning on going to a co-worker's 60th birthday party, but I'm just not in the mood.  I wanted to take a nap, but I started looking on the Internet for the answers to the Unseemly Trivia Contest and was distracted.  I was able to answer all of the questions!  I e-mailed BK a few minutes ago and even got the "Returned mail: see transcript for details" e-mail.  I really hope that BK actually got the e-mail.  I got all the answers!! (as far as I know ::)) One of them was very difficult (for me, anyway).

And yesterday in the mail, I got my latest eBay acquisition:  the limited edition soundtrack to "Mame" with Lucille Ball.  Except mine isn't a numbered limited edition, it has a hole punched out of the barcode.  It stated that in the listing, but I didn't read it that carefully.  So, I got a promo copy and no number.  I wonder...if there are fewer promo copies, does that make it more limited, even though it's not numbered, or do they make so many promos that the entire run of CDs really isn't that rare? ::)

Had a wonderful and laugh-filled and relaxing evening with the wonderful, laugh-filled and sweet Mr. Moore. We stuffed ourselves on Mexican food and in the process had two, count them, two margaritas! Oh, my, I can get tipsy on one. Larry just had to walk 3 blocks back to his apartment (with an elevator) but I had to walk to 79th Street and take the subway. It was good for me. It cleared my head. BTW, we each had two margaritas because it was two for one night and the waitress just brought that second one and we couldn't waste it, could we??? Even though the glasses had salt and we asked for no salt. The food was good and the company was even better. I turned on the air conditioning in the bedroom and I'm getting the laundry ready for tomorrow. Anthony is still out with the Forum cast celebrating his and Nick's birthdays (which were yesterday).

I will go now but I may return later this evening.

Actually BMG did not record VW's Kiss. Her own record label did and they also recorded her St, Lousis Woman that was part of a Encore's season. (Usually DRG records them)

Great decision.  I much prefer the 2nd KOTSW. Better male leads too.  I was disappointed when I got to Broadway and Chita had been replaced but I was truly "knocked out" by the performance of Ms Williams.  If only her performance in the TV "Bye Bye Birde" had been as good!

Back from the movie and dinner, about which more later.

I hate the Hollywood and Highland mall, and from what I understand, it's almost a complete bust.  It's one of the most confusing places I've ever been to - if they'd done something like The Grove there, it might have worked, but as it is, I would never ever visit there again.

I'm back from a night out at Shea Stadium where the Beatles once did play. As did Grand Funk Railroad for you fans of that group.

In any case the ballgame was rain delayed for an hour and a half, and the game itself was 90% boring. Then in the last inning some crazy stuff happened and it ended up being quite exciting. A Met hit an inside-the-park home run to tie the game (very rare), then, in extra innings the Angels, who are now calling themselves the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" (have you ever heard anything as inane?) took the lead only to lose it AGAIN, when a Met hit a regular home run with two strikes and two outs. So, it was fun, though I was mainly just hanging out with big sis.

SWoody, it's not your fault, and I know it makes it more convenient for you, but those stickers on every piece of fruit are the bane of my existence. They are sometimes hard to remove or leave behind a sticky substance. On plums, in particular, they often tear off the skin of the fruit when you peel them off. I rage against them!
