WHAT A STRANGE DAY WAS YESTERDAY
« on: May 12, 2005, 11:58:32 PM »

Well, you've read the notes, you know what a strange day was yesterday, you are now curious whether today will be a strange day, and now it is time for you to post until the strange cows come home, which certainly won't be yesterday.  Have I been obtuse enough?

DR JOSE - thanks for the additional Indy Pic!  You will be happy to know that I have lost about 12 pounds on my diet and although I will never be as thin as DRJOEY, at least DR RICHARD won't have to use the wide angle lens next time I am in the photo!

Elvis!  Loved the additional photos as well.

And DRJANE reminded me of another historical novel:  NICHOLAS & ALEXANDRA.

Media check:

DVD: I LOVE LUCY - the 4th Season
CD: PIPPIN - the music tracks
VCR: THE COLOSSUS OF RHODES again.  Don't forget that you have this movie, DR BK...or did you watch it?  I am trying to recall your comments.

THE RAZOR'S EDGE - a wonderfully cast movie, though it is not a patch on the book, which is one of my favorites of all time.  The first scene at the party where Tyrone Power tries to explain to Gene Tierney how being in the war has changed him, is beautifully scored and photographed.  Clifton Webb, Lucile Watson, and Herbert Marshall are wonderful, as are John Payne and Anne Baxter.

Of course, the scene when Ty announces his engagement to Anne and Gene throws down the phone, and the scene when she insults Marshall and throws sandwiches at him, and the scene when she finally admits to Power how she manipulated Baxter.....  A long, long film that I truly enjoy.

Oh...I am glad TRE is coming to DVD - I hope Silvia Stoddard is NOT one of the people on the commentary.

Good morning, all!  I will be E&T most of the day; Rodgers & Hammerstein are summoning me to finish up SHOWBOAT, and I'm seeing a movie tonight with Matthew, my best friend from college.

Dear Friend BK, let me know the dates, etc. you will be in NYC, and I will make the reservation for Joe Allen on Saturday night.

I'm listening to Jerome Kern as I write this, but I have nothing lined up this weekend:  too much to do before Monday madness!

Good  Morning!

Yes, believe it or not, I'm actually up before Noon.  Before 10:30.  Before 9:00.  Before 8:00!?!?!?

How did that happen?  Well, I guess since I Wussburgered out before midnight EDT...  That's how.  Which is good, since I have to run some errands this morning here in Richmond, and I hope to get on the road back up to Fairfax before noon.

In any case...

Friday Media Check...

Is it really Friday again already?

:-\

I did try to listen to some CDs earlier this week at my parents' house, but the wall outlet that I usually plug my mini-boom box into seems to have gone kaput.  So... No electricity, no music.  But I have been catching up on my soap operas, so all is not lost.

...And, yes, there are other wall outlets I could plug my mini-boom box into, but with the way the room is configured, and where the major pieces of furniture are placed, getting to some of those other outlets is a bit inconvenient.

Happy Birthday to LaJolieFemme

As one of our resident food experts said:

Gateaux for everyone! and I will add

avec chocolate

Listening to BBC Radio 3 right now. Don't know what else I will listen to during the day.

I am seeing Anthony's show tomorrow (w/Darling Deb and Daughter and Husband and Anthony's parents and Aunt and Uncle) and on Sunday evening I'm seeing Brian Stokes Mitchell at Lincoln Center. My work theatre buddies and I will be having a nice dinner and then off to see that beautiful baritone voice.

DR George: You've got mail (in your e-mail box, not your pm box here at HHW)

Just reviewing yesterday's notes

How could I forget Ladies of the Club, Spring Moon, The Good Earth and ShoGun? Loved them all.  There's also a book by Amy Tan that isn't strictly historical, it bounces back and forth between the present and about 100 years earlier,  The Hundred Secret Senses

I am afraid I will not be able to make and Hainsie/Kimlet meets in May (after tomorrow night with DR Ben that is!)

Both the weekend of the 20 -22 and the Memorial Day weekend are entirely booked with Girl Scout stuff

Don't hate me because I am "helping girls grow strong"
