And the word of the day is: BANAUSIC!
DR Cillaliz, what did you and your mom think of the results on DWTS?
I hope my day gets better. The doctor has done nothing about an antibiotic or any treatment suggestion for this ear infection, which seems to be getting worse. Problems chewing yesterday. Now the ear seems totally stopped up this morning. Ugh.
This is a reminder for DR JANE (and anybody else who watches this show).
The premiere of HUMAN TARGET is on tonight at 8pm.
New tenant vibes would be appreciated. I show the old house again this morning.
DR John I hope your ear is feeling better today.
My BK question of the day:
What movie(s) have you always wanted to see, but have never been able to locate or catch on TV.
For me it would be the 1959 film noir TOKYO AFTER DARK starring Richard Long and Michi Kobi. It was released by Paramount, so you would think it would not be so obscure...but I have never even been able to find even a grey market print of the thing!

Same with the 20th Century Fox film HIGH POWERED RIFLE starring Allison Hayes. If I am recollecting correctly this early in the morning, it is the only Allison Hayes film I have not yet seen.

I have it on good authority that the lovely Miss Tina Paradiso will be joining our Merrie Troupe probably by next week. :)
New tenant vibes would be appreciated. I show the old house again this morning. You got 'em.
DR JohnG, our baritone Steven LaBrie has ben suffering from a bad inner ear infection as well. It must be in the air. Do you need a second opinion?Haven't seen anyone. I actually just need a scrip for antibiotics. Your friend is now the fifth person this week I've heard with one. Here in San Antonio, they're all blamed on the allergens in the air.
]DR John I hope your ear is feeling better today.
Darn, I have read your post and you sound worst. :(
MEGA EAR VIBES!!!
I'm back from the dentist, a 30-minute event that lasted 90 minutes. I've also paid off my bill of $730.00 for the dental work of the past six weeks, so that damned check I'm expecting had better show up today!Good news on getting the bill paid. I hope that's a sign your dental needs are over, too.
I think now I will head down to the NYPL Theatre Collection. There's always that hope the missing BABES IN TOYLAND scrapbook will finally turn up after being lost for nine years and answer all my questions.
First, I'll make the bed. Then I'll had out. The Oaf is up and moving about. I heard his door slam.
The Oaf was one noisy cuss around 1:30 this morning so I guess he means to go out with a bang: lots of walking about, primarily, and little in the way of crashes and thumps. I will be extremely happy when he's out of the building.
DR Cillaliz, re: DANCING WITH THE STARS
Count me in as one who is quite unhappy that Bristol Palin is still on the show. And it really has nothing to do with her mother. I am mad though that people who don't watch the show are cheating and power-voting for her. I don't think that anyone who does not watch the show should be allowed to vote.
She seems nice enough. But she does not have a lot of personality or charisma. Also, I don't really care how much someone tries. She really does not have much musicality. I almost always cheer for the person who I think is the best dancer. And even though I think that Bristol has improved. She is so far behind the others in terms of ability it's ridiculous.
It will be a joke if she wins. Because it does seem like a lot of her votes are not even for her, but from her mother's supporters. Plus some are voting for her based on "vote for the worst" or just cause they think it would be funny if she won (since she is the worst dancer).
I don't mind people voting for her if they actually like that she is a non-perfomer who tackled something very difficult. But to vote for her for the win? I will definitely be voting for Jennifer and Derek. Although I would not be totally unhappy if Kyle won. He's really improved. And he's actually quite good. Especially for someone who doesn't have the body type of a dancer.
BK, I love NIGHT OF THE HUNTER, and have loved it since I first saw it around 1977 or so, when I was in Jr. High School.
Robert Mitchum in that film reminded me very much of my step-father (making it very easy for anyone to understand why I moved from my mom's house to my dad's house!)

Vibes for DR MATTHEW on the loss of his friend.
Adoption vibes for Spats.
Elmore you MUST take a picture of the oaf before he leaves. I have been most curious as to what he looks like. (Clown feet?). :)
Or a tumbler.

I told the super that I had learned I wasn't responsible for any eviction. His response: "why should you care? Good riddance!"
I love him.

And a few hours ago, also through the wonders of Twitter - as well as a couple of texts - I was treated to lunch at an opening-soon restaurant in the East Village. Mozzarella Crostini with Bottarga; Pasta and Greens in Broth; Braised Beef Short Ribs. -And the pasta and accompanying escarole salad were "anointed" with the chef's own olive oil - her family owns an olive grove in Puglia. It had just been pressed last week. WOW!!!
I Think That Joe Raposo was A Very Talented Composer Of Songs.
When You Look At His Contributions To Frank Sinatra's Canon and Sesame Street and Kermit and Company,I think You'll Agree
However,His Unproduced Show on Broadway Of A WONDERFUL LIFE baffles
Me...Book Problems? I don't Know.
All I know is that the Title Song along with IN A STATE haunt me endlessly.
Any Opinions Out There?
I sat through "Raggedy Ann" up in Albany when it had its first production. They were then taking it to the Soviet Union on a cultural exchange. I've got some Russian blood in me (from my grandfather Woloskiewitsch's side). And my only thought was, "What did the Russians ever do to us? Is this some new form of Cold War weapon?"I Think That Joe Raposo was A Very Talented Composer Of Songs.

I was at the opening night of his big flop show, RAGGEDY ANN. What the hell?
I honestly don't think IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE was meant for a Broadway run, but for regional Christmas productions. I could be wrong.
Speaking of Christmas, I ordered today my friend Joe Cassidy's Christmas album.

In other news...
Through the wonders of social media - Twitter, in this case - I was offered a pair of tickets to Bryn Terfel's recital tonight at Carnegie Hall. HOO and RAY!

We've had a butterfly mishap. A wing didn't straighten after it emerged.
Berko Wainer was born in Subrawsky in 1889. During the war he was in France. Deported with transport 52 from Drancy to Sobibor on 23/03/1943. Berko perished in the Shoah. This information is based on a List of deportation from France found in the Le Memorial de la deportation des juifs de france, Beate et Serge Klarsfeld, Paris 1978.

At the risk of sounding super insensitive, I have to ask if it survived.
It has survived. The Butterfly Scientist (a HHW recurring character) says he may still be ok.
It's ok, Jane. It's a bug.
Whether it can live in the wild is another question. I may have a pet.
Cilla, do you recommend any background check sites? The one I used for my current tenants charged me an arm and a leg and ended up not providing me with much info. I want to know if they've ever been convicted of a crime and/or declared bankruptcy.

I am happy to report that the other monarch that emerged today is healthy.

He'll just fly in circles....I'm so sorry, but as soon as I saw he may be ok, I just had to say it
I'm baaaaaaack! I spoke to my landlord: the Oaf is leaving but there was no eviction so I can get over my anxiety that I caused his departure.
I told the super that I had learned I wasn't responsible for any eviction. His response: "why should you care? Good riddance!"
I love him.
Was the Raposo Raggedy Ann an adaptation of the animated film he wrote the score for? I love several of those songs, especially Blue, What Did I See, and Candy Hearts and Paper Flowers. I'll discuss Wonderful Life in the notes tonight.
This litle kid in the balcony panicked, started shrieking and screaming "Get me out of here!" I thought, kid, you're speaking for all of us.

What state are they from? Here's the court records in Oregon http://courts.oregon.gov/OJD/OnlineServices/index.page? (http://courts.oregon.gov/OJD/OnlineServices/index.page?)
Most states have free criminal record searches if you know where they've been. I usually use FBI fingerprint checks for my immigration clients. We can do it for $18, but you can't do that for a potential renter....
I've never really checked for bankruptcy, you'd want to check the federal district court website for your district, or wherever they lived.

I've felt that way at more than one show, Elmore.
As long as you all don't tell me I am wasting my time.
I am so glad I didn't take Little Ricky to the vet tonight. He's had plenty to eat, which is good because all food and water have to be taken away in 15 minutes. He's on his roost right now, but I'll take him upstairs to my room abotu 8:00PM. I don't think he'll be happy being shut in there, but it's WAY better than being in a cage at the vet, so I'm not going to feel very sorry for him
My sister got my niece's (the baby with roseola) school pictures today. The people taking the pictures give a website with background options.
IMO these people are insane. I don't know who they take pictures for, but i'll assume they do little kids pictures and school pictures.
There were 100 choices. And none of them were plain backgrounds. Everyone that was sort of nice had some weird object in the corner that was ugly. Most of them were either outdoor scenes (fields...) and a bunch were things like the eiffel tower (?).
But a lot of them were outdoor scenes with things like farm animals (cows) in the pictures. Now who on earth wants a school portrait where there kid is standing beside a fence with a cow. Another one had geese chasing the kid.
It was hilarious but ridiculous. My niece is wearing pink. There is one pink background that actually looks sort of schoolish. It has letters in the air. Another pink one makes it look like she is outdoor standing beside a cherry blossom true (nice but is this how one wants the kids school picture?).
Oy.

They're Oregonians. It looks like you have to be "official" to register at the OJD site--they ask for your "organization." I just thought maybe you had used a background check site before.
Maybe if no one buys the photos because the backgrounds are hideous they will put in a plain option.
If you wear cuddleduds under your bigger pants it'll still be comfortable. If you wear them under pants that just fit, they can be a bit tight...if you don't wear cuddleduds....never mind
The movie came first. I think most of the score was dropped for the stage show, which was illogically conceived. Terrible costumes, choreography and a cast that was uneven in talent. If I recall, many were not in the union, which prompted its own problems when it arrived on Broadway. The only song I remember was something called "Buttons and Bows" that was repeated one too many times for its own good. Was the Raposo Raggedy Ann an adaptation of the animated film he wrote the score for? I love several of those songs, especially Blue, What Did I See, and Candy Hearts and Paper Flowers. I'll discuss Wonderful Life in the notes tonight.
I think the musical came first, although I could be wrong. It was such a mess: doctors trying to kill the little girl who owned Raggedy Ann and Andy, a werewolf in cahoots with the doctors, a bunch of evil and sexy bats who tried to seduce and strip Raggedy Andy for a map to locate whatever object will save the girl from death. At the beginning of Act Two, the werewolf came down to the apron and howled. This litle kid in the balcony panicked, started shrieking and screaming "Get me out of here!" I thought, kid, you're speaking for all of us.
Finished watching the close to three hour Charles Laughton Directs Night Of The Hunter on disc two of the new Criterion set. Really fascinating on many levels. I dare say, that if someone tried to direct Laughton the way he's directing his actors he would have had them for dinner or quit.I heard he treated Elsa the same way.
The doctor finally came through and called in a prescription for an antibiotic. I've taken two so far and already feel some better. But it's still difficult to chew, which is hard for someone who eats. Had pumpkin ice cream for dinner. And a fruitsicle.
tonight the Vixter and I went to the mvie theatre for the One Night Only showing of the 25th Anniversary Concert of Les Miserables
Marius was sung by one of the Jonas brothers - the front seats were all occupied by fangirls who, whenever young Mr Jonas appeared on screen, would immedialtely start taking flash photos and holding up their phones and video the movie -
the manager of the movie theatre happened to be in the audience in the row behind ours - he had a large uniformed security guard warn the girls to put their phones away - with limited success - but at the 10 minute intermission he walkewd down and said "Not only is your behavior rude and distracting to the rest of the audience but it is also illegal - if there is an repeat of this behavior in the second half of the show, I will bring the house lights up and you will be leaving in a police vehicle."
The second half of the show the audience was very well behaved

Oh, man. I've just returned from The Academy, where we screened our film. WOW!!! I don't htink it will ever look of sound as good as it did in that room; spectacular! I've noticed when I see movies in LA that they sound better than anywhere else, but this was superb!
We had a surprise---Al Rosen attended and was part of the group of speakers afterwards. We didn't know he was coming; it was a thrilled to meet him! We also had Mike Lieberthal and Shawn Green there. It was great to meet them all after looking at them on my laptop computer for months on end. They were all adorable, and Al said he cries every time he sees the film (in a good way!). It was so neat to see the film with them; it was the first time Shawn and Mike had seen it and they really loved it! The audience was very appreciative, and it was interesting to see the film with a NY crowd and what they bring to it, and then an LA crowd, since those two towns are such a big part of the story, especially with Sandy Koufax.
So I'm just kvelling in a major way!
Tomorrow we're shooting for our next film, and interviewing Lieber and Stoller. Can't wait to meet them!
