I'm going to take a Jacuzzi in a few minutes - haven't had one in a few weeks and my legs are really sore.

Now to listen to more classical music - right now, the symphonies of Alan Rawsthorne, which I'm enjoying very much.

In honor of SPRING AWAKENING's success, there is apparently a new put-down going around town, to wit:

"Honey, YOU are the bitch of living."

("The Bitch of Living" is the name of one of the more exciting songs in SPRING AWAKENING.)

My last post wasn't directed at anyone here, just reporting a new theater-related trend in the making.  :)

I'm heading down now to read more KATE and then settle in with DVDs for the evening.

Spring Awakening's "success" at this point is strictly critical.  It is not doing well at the box-office - not considering the reviews.  I think January will be a very tough month for it and other shows.  When they have to send teens all over the Internet to tell all the people who don't like the show how crazy they are and when they have to trumpet that SA made the cover of some teen magazine, well, I think they are flailing.

I think I shall watch a couple of these low-budget Hammer Studios films noir.

You're right, of course, Bruce.  The success is with the critics, financial success for Spring Awakening is hardly assured.  If the subject matter and frankly depressing nature of (the mostly marvelous) Spring Awakening weren't adversely affecting word of mouth, reviews of that ilk would have led to immediate sell-outs, even in the week before Christmas.

DR FJL  Emily from Canada used to post.

My thoughts. The words of departure would be the key.  An indication that you have enjoyed the company of the person, a "loose" invitation to meet again at some stage, and an apology (though only necessary for politeness) that you must "desert" your friend as you have other matters to attend.

Even perhaps a "Next time" perhaps we can go for coffee elsewhere etc. may be appropriate.

Throw away the guilt! Of course Mother Helen would have dealt with the situation in a superior fashion.

Have had the Jacuzzi and feel ever so relaxed now, with soreness from legs practically gone.  I shall now watch a film noir or something that purports to be a film noir.

I'm trying to think of other film performances I liked and/or even saw this year.  I did like the suicidal guy (I can never remember his name) from Little Miss Sunshine.  Haven't seen The Departed so don't know if that's good Jack or bad Jack.  Haven't seen The Queen or The Illusionist.

Oh, and there was that actor who played the gay-seeming husband in Friends With Money - he was very good in a very bad movie.

Humorous?  I think I was near death.  Of course, that IS humorous.

I do know Nicholas and Alexandra - good but not great film.

If, for some reason I don't care for it, I shall simply go to Quickie's and order a few slices.

I'm waiting for Mr. Rawsthorne's symphony to be over.  It's the final movement and, as we all know, some movements are longer than others.

The pizza does smell good, I'll say that.  Unlike most frozen pizzas, this one actually smells like a pizza.  I did what was suggested - took it out of the freezer, took the pizza out of the pan it comes in, wiped the moisture from the pan, put a little oil in the pan and then put the frozen pizza back in the pan.  Then that went in the refrigerator to sit for three hours.  Then it went in the oven.  It should be ready in about thirty-something minutes.

Well, perhaps the movement can finish later, because I'm in the mood for noir.

The  Pogue is back.  Boy, one of the things I miss most about LA, BK, is my jacuzzi.  We have a jacuzzi bathtub but it's just not quite the same thing.

I'm busy translating and adapting TARTUFFE for our spring production.  I will play Orgon.  I never done anything like this before and I'm having a great time.  So far, I'm happy with the work and think it's going to be pretty funny. Knock wood.

After donating all those clothes yesterday, it was time to upgrade my wardrobe.  I had a wonderful time shopping today. Lots of good sales out there.  My resolution this year is to forget that everyday at work is casual day and to start dressing up more every day.  Thus the cleaning out of the old wardrobe and the work on upgrading is the first step to keeping that resolution

I thoroughly enjoyed David Hyde Pierce in CURTAINS and Edward Hibbert in CURTAINS.   Christine Ebersole in GREY GARDENS was fantastic as well.   I haven't seen too many movies this year, so I don't really have an answer there...maybe Edward Norton in the Illusionist

I think I'm going to see SPRING AWAKENING in March. I don't know if I'll like it, but I am intrigued. I also want to see COMPANY and will, of course, be seeing CURTAINS again. I'm anxious to see the changes since the first week of previews in LA.  I thought I'd have time for 4 shows, but I think I'll keep it at 3
