Well, you've read the notes, the notes were potentially exciting, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to figure out what in tarnation Amarcord has to do with the price of new mown hay.

Now that BK has posted another name, I can post another...Mickey Mantle. :)

And now, I'm off to bed. Good night, all.

TUNNEL MILESTONE, AND MORE TO COME
By KEN BELSON
April 6, 2008
TO many commuters, the two tunnels that connect New Jersey and Pennsylvania Station in Manhattan seem so ordinary that they barely give them a second thought — except, perhaps, when their train breaks down inside them.
Yet when the Pennsylvania Railroad blasted the final pieces of rock out of the tunnels to complete the underground link a century ago this week, they were hailed by many as an engineering marvel and the product of foresight and gumption.
The Gilded Age tunnels have performed remarkably well and defied skeptics — including some of the engineers who built them and doubted their durability. Each business day, about 150,000 passengers ride the 337 New Jersey Transit trains that roll through the 6,100-foot-long cast iron tubes, which are owned and operated by Amtrak, which itself runs 104 trains. Another 39 empty New Jersey Transit trains use the tunnel.
But the tunnels reached their peak-hour capacity in 2003 when the Secaucus transfer hub opened. So New Jersey Transit and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey are planning to spend $7.6 billion to build a second set that will more than double, to 48 an hour, the number of trains that can traverse the Hudson.
The project, called Access to the Region’s Core, or ARC, is in some ways as monumental as the first tunnels, which cost the Pennsylvania Railroad $111 million, a price tag that included the old Pennsylvania Station and four other tunnels under the East River. (It’s about $2.5 billion now when accounting for inflation.)
If federal approval is given this summer and grants are secured later this year, construction will begin in early 2009 and take eight years. Contractors will deploy boring machines the length of football fields to drill through granite, schist and other materials, use laser-guided satellite signals to pinpoint their location, and carve a path under 34th Street so wide that commuters will be able to walk underground to 14 subway lines, and to PATH, Amtrak, New Jersey Transit and Long Island Rail Road trains.

Oooohhh...I'm so jealous! DR Jose has a ticket to Bryn Terfel!
I couldn't infiltrate his own site to see if he would be performing anywhere near Atlanta. His site is one you have to join, but it wouldn't let me in! (I may have tried to join awhile back, but it is not recognizing my user name. Argh.
Anyway, I decided to go to a ticket broker site to see which cities were listed. Something tells me that the users/brokers at ticket specialists
http://www.ticketspecialists.com/concerts/bryn_terfel_tickets.htm
are not from around these here parts. Perhaps they use Babelfish for their descriptions of the shows, or perhaps they are playing Madlibs. Laugh if you must, but remember to be "compasionable":
"I expired the video of the last Bryn Terfel concert and it looked tough. I met the lead temptation from Bryn Terfel backstage and he was purposeful. Everyone is squeamishly awaiting some more dull stuff from Bryn Terfel."
"Bryn Terfel, Bryn Terfel, Bryn Terfel, two words come to mind: many artist. There is an excellent message represented in the song "Overpriced On Top of The Chum" yet the hot "Preview-ish" single "Fireworks in Disguise" is revealingly among my favorites. For example, a saga over a baby revolts that a phantom hangs an horrible hobo for the boss."
"The latest humorists-and-celebrities album isn’t as companionable, nor as distinct, as either, but it still has plenty of purple stuff: namely, warm, autonomous horrible material like the yellow story-song “Some Kits Are”, with some sort-of-quarrel stuff like “precious laborers Blues,” in which not even mushy masquerade cheers up the finicky tycoon anymore. A eyewitness almost wriggles cafeteria for a lawn. If your looking for a quick show, I would implacably suggest sanely wasteful tickets for the next Bryn Terfel show to end to town."
"I often enough emerge lost in these breaks and often forget what story I’ve depart to see. While Bryn Terfel's current work is quite nutty, earlier songs like "Auditorium Drown", "Don't Advance Him" and "You Ride My Area" are also benevolent and gigantic. Our post-modern society, more than ever before, relies upon Bryn Terfel. I always increased Bryn Terfel, until I got to their show and it was ugly."

Der B, the Closer promo you mentioned---was it from the footage we shot in NY for our campaign or a "clip spot"?
We sent 60 sec spots to Kyra and her people, and they said that she really loved them. As far as I know, they haven't aired yet. Whenever ACCESS HOLLYWOOD does their story about the campaign, that should be the first time one of the :60s is seen. And we're holding the other back to premiere at the upfront show next month. I usually have to create something special for this, so I'm glad they just decided to use what we already made. (Even though it's less work, somethings that's a good thing.)

I find most of the shows i watch these days have storylines where you really need to watch them in order from the beginning of the season. Even a show like MEDIUM, where the case can be self-contained on the episode have family plots and other developments that span the whole year.

I sent my best friend the link to The Ticket Place. She enjoyed their write ups of Wrigley Field:
"The bruisedly tough rash mutinously escapes a swiftly wasteful guy of conceit. Every podium I’ve been to at Wrigley Field has been a authoritative moment. The benign show at Wrigley Field is altruistic."
"The security staff at Wrigley Field is very convincing for all events. The loyal show at Wrigley Field is credible. When a spry cafeteria designs a laziness, a industrious elegant revolts out opportunistically. The defined show at Wrigley Field is passionate."
"The parking at the Wrigley Field is very gigantic. Wrigley Field is the fullest place to see an newsletter. The parking at the Wrigley Field is very spotty. The seats at Wrigley Field are very established."
"Wrigley Field is the filmiest place to see an pageant. Wrigley Field is a nimble place to enjoy an event. Wrigley Field can provide shows for all ages."

THE MIKADO was wonderful! I took Greg's sister and husband along. I thought they were G&S fans. It turns out they've seen The Mikado several times and my DB-I-L said it was his favorite theatre piece ever. We also had a wonderful dinner at JCT Kitchen.
The one thing that surprised me is the song "I've Got a Little List". I knew this was a historically accurate production, so when the list mentioned Simon Cowell, boy bands, blue tooth, ipods and blackberries ("most of these made in Japan"), governors cavorting with ladies of the night, I thought: "Whaaaaa?"
Then I assumed that when it was originally written, they would update the lyrics to reflect current news items.

Marian McPartland - jazz pianist
-
I watched "The Mist" Saturday afternoon. I have the 2-DVD version with the film in black-and-white on disc 2.
There are several fine performances in the film with Marcia Gay Harden chewing the scenery (in a good way) as a hellfire-and-brimstone *itch.
Thomas Jane is very good as the hero. He is beautifully supported with a wild performance by William Sadler, a wonderful performance by Toby Jones, and extremely excellent supporting performances by Frances Sternhagen and Jeffrey DeMunn. Andre Braugher is terrific, too. The ending of this film is as tragic/heartbreaking as they come. There is a lot of gore and grit and gruesomeness. The creatures are fierce and fearsome.
But...and there is a "but" as I am sure you are aware...at 126 minutes, it's way too long for what it is. There are scenes where I simply demanded that they "move along now"...exhorted loudly that "enough is enough"....and asked indignantly if the director was "overindulgent ... much???"
I want to see it again.
And...with reservations (see above)...I recommend it if horror is your thing.

When I read about the games in the Notes the MM that came to mind after the obvious one was the novelist Michael Malone, which Sing has already mentioned. I'm kinda surprised that anyone knows him. Maybe he's better known than I thought. I've been quite impressed with some of his writing.
-
And what pray tell does Amarcord have to do with EP, or have I missed something somewhere?
I was scratching my head on that one, too.
The only connection I could come up with - tenuous, admitedly - was that both could be called "coming of age" stories.
-
And what pray tell does Amarcord have to do with EP, or have I missed something somewhere?
I was wondering the same thing, but I'm sure in time all will be revealed.

If you've preordered, no, you don't need to do anything else. If you haven't and you'd like to do so before it goes live in a few hours (my web designer is obviously out right now, and she's also changed her cell phone number, which is annoying), just send 19.98 plus 3.50 shipping to paypal address kritzerland@adelphia.net.
-
And I guess it's okay to show you all the labor of our hard work.
-
I don't think anybody mentioned Michael Murphey yet....
"She ran calling Wilddddddddddd.....firrrrrrrrrrrrrre......"
I always liked that tune. (Well, all '70s tunes.)

And I guess it's okay to show you all the labor of our hard work.
Classy freakin' cover!!

bk, the artwork for the new release is simply stunning! :)

Very nice Primrose artwork, BK!
-
Thanks to everyone for the comments on my new avvie - courtesy my webcam and DR GEORGE.
My pleasure. ;D
-
Love the "Evening Primrose" CD cover, BK!! :D
-
THE MIKADO was wonderful!
Elmore, (or anyone else) do you know if that's the case?
I don't remember those specific items, but I do remember that there were some contemporary references when they were here in Olympia.
"Pinafore" will be here on April 25! I'm ushering. :D
-
Sorry, I think DR Tomovoz beat you to it...
Weird. I even did a search for "Murphey" and couldn't find it. Might he have spelled it incorrectly? :)
-
I made the PRIMROSE cover my new wallpaper.

It looks V E R Y interesting in stretched full screen on my computer.....

Yes, both. (Maybe no one is admitting it!)
I was the first to post Mickey, before I realized I was breaking the rules! :)

Good Afternoon!
I'm back from my afternoon constitutional, and, thankfully, I did not keep walking and walking like I did yesterday. The fresh, not-so-cold air felt good.

Thank you DR MattH for the info re: PSYCH and MONK.
I am curious are these shows where each episode is mostly self-contained. I.e., will i be able to easily follow shows from the second season if i have never seen the show before?
I find most of the shows i watch these days have storylines where you really need to watch them in order from the beginning of the season. Even a show like MEDIUM, where the case can be self-contained on the episode have family plots and other developments that span the whole year.
They are completely self-contained, especially PSYCH. If you know the premise behind each show (obsessive-compulsive disorder detective; fake psychic who uses powers of observation to deduce solutions), you can follow every episode with no problems.
-
...And now I'm finally catching up on last week's premiere episode of the new season of "Hell's Kitchen". OY! have they picked some very "interesting" contestant chefs(?) for this round.

If posting Mickey was against the rules, then I guess I didn't understand the rules either. Why was Mickey verboten?
It wasn't Mickey, per se....it was posting Mickey directly after she posted something else. The rules, as spelled out in BK's column, were that you should wait until someone else posts before posting a second, or third, etc., time.
-
Mary Magdalene.
-
I began my afternoon with last night's PSYCH. Even though I saw it months ago, it still made me laugh out loud in several places, and it was just wonderful finally seeing it in HD (though the image was grainier than I was expecting.)
-
Next came last night's DIRT. The show has always been a guilty pleasure, but I have to say that I'm enjoying it less this season because Don is on his meds and thus that surreal aspect of the show is gone, and also it's more about relationships this season and less about the frantic need to get dirt on the celebrities.
I'd also love to see the gay brother come back to the show.
-
Good morning, good day, how are you this beautiful day. I'm great. I woke up to the e-mail I've been waiting for, it was what it needed to be and the announcement can and will be made just as soon as my web designer gets the title live on Kritzerland. Very exciting.
:D :D :D
-

Oh, thank God. I was afraid there was an anti-rodent contingent here!
-
Then I watched last night's JOHN ADAMS.
A wonderful episode with Adams struggling with the rather powerless role of Vice-President. And his election speech as President was certainly stirring. Grandly delivered.
-
I quickly skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No Luke or Noah, and they were not in the previews for tomorrow either.
-
I ended my afternoon watching another 25 minutes of PHONE BOOTH. I'd like to finish it before starting A SHOT AT LOVE tonight.
Sad to say, no review copy deliveries, so it looks like that WILL be the next item I will be evaluating.
-
I just read in VARIETY that PROJECT RUNWAY will jump networks this fall:

Yes, Mickey Mouse is perfectly fine. Great choices - we hadn't thought of Mike Mazurki and we're really good at this game.

Probably unknown to most of you, some NW-ers may recognize her name, she had the biggest megachurch in the NW (a little south of Portland) until she and her husband were arrrested for fraud, having bilked millions out of their parishioners for personal "loans" (which were never repaid). The husband is still in federal prison, IIRC, and Ms. Morrissey gives "inspirational" speeches nationally to ostensibly pay down the debt, though the last Oregonian article on her stated that virtually nothing had been paid.

I have always been curious about Li'l Abner, and only recently picked up the first paperback collection, beginning with the original strips. Haven't read them yet, though.

I'm not even aware of "complete" hardcover collections. I grew up reading "Dick Tracy" in the laste 1950s and through the 1960s. Those are my favorites. Ditto "Li'l Abner".
I've got nothing against any era, though....

Here's a little quandary: I was only going to sell this title to one online mail order place but they won't take it without their usual thirty percent discount, and I'm loathe to give it to them - on this title, I don't want to discount to anyone, really. Then again, he would probably order 200 or 300 of them. But one of the key ideas behind this was to drive traffic to Kritzerland so while I may initially regret not having those 200 CDs sold at a lesser price, I think I have to stand firm. The idea is that you can't get it for the same price anywhere else. That's the way the Varese club titles work.

I think if you buy an ad in the Sondheim Review and post to CASTRECL and (I'm loathe to admit) All That Chat, you'll have your 3000 gone in no time.

Maybe it's best to get 200-300 of them out there so word (and demand) can spread? It could lead to more Kritzerland traffic later on, no?

I think you're pretty much correct. Do you do castrecl? I know Larry does. I can send you the press release as soon as we're live on Kritzerland and you could post it to castrecl.

Nothing ever proven. It was said that King Vidor actually solved it, but withheld the information; but I doubt it. I believe the insanely jealous Miss Shelby was a far better choice than MMM.

Good Evening!
Well, here's a friendly "hint" of sorts...
A friend of mine is coming in from Toronto tomorrow afternoon, and he spent some time today buying theatre tickets for some shows this week. When he checked first thing this morning, nothing "good" was available for anything he wanted to see this week. Well... Around 2:00, he checked Roundabout's site, and, lo and behold, he was able to get a first row, Front Mezz seat for Wednesday night performance of Sunday in the Park with George - with the discount code! Then he just checked about an hour ago for tickets for South Pacific, and he was able to get a front row, Center Loge seat for tomorrow night's performance. -And I just checked myself, and there were fourth row, Center Orchestra seats available for Wednesday's matinee! Both performances were listed as "No Tickets Available" earlier today. (Alas, no discounts, but still...) -Oh, and he got a fifth row orchestra seat - on the aisle - for Gypsy on Thursday night.
-It's all in the timing!
-
Modest Mussorgsky

Well, the new Kritzerland release is up on the site. HOWEVER, bk, you may not see too many orders, as at least in some browsers, the site keeps "refreshing," and you can't actually read any of the text or click anywhere to order before it refreshes again.

Mary McCarty (Follies--Who's That Woman)
-
Mandy Moore - Isn't that someone?
Yes. And I believe I was the one who listed her earlier. ;)
-
Madam Mesta
-
Marin Mazzie
Or is that a repeat?
Yes, it is.
-
Does that count as another name even though it was used?
-
Well, she's worth repeating :)
-
And then there is the woman I comfused my previous MM with.
Writer Mary McCarthy who disliked Lillian Hellman
-
Yes. And I believe I was the one who listed her earlier. ;)
Well, I knew I'd heard about her somewhere ;D

Matzoh Meal

Just wanted to say I love the cover for Evening Primrose.
Maybe BK can contact Charmian Carr to do a cd signing in LA and also sign the cds that were bought.
-
Molly Maguire
(I believe she's still a miner)
-
MELBA MOORE
-
Motormouth Maybelle
-
Mystery Man
-
In the past 2 weeks I've gotten a brochure in the mail that said "Have you considered Assisted Living?" Today I got a catalogue of Elderhostel tours. LOL. I like to plan ahead, but I won't be able to go for 8 plus years
-
Mystery Meat
Has anyone done Mystery Meat?
-
Was MARILYN MICHAELS mentioned?
-
Well, I had a purposely very low-key day, and now I'm ready for a very low-key night of sleep.
Goodnight.

Magical Mister Mistopholes (sp?)

Well, I watched the first four episodes of A SHOT AT LOVE. Just exactly the way I suspected it would be. Now it all boils down to the systematic elimination of a man and a woman each week. Some people go ballistic when eliminated; some are relieved for it to be over. Most feel hurt.
These are one hour shows (about 40 minutes sans commercials) so it takes a long time to watch a disc worth of them. It will take me two more days to get through the rest of the shows. Four at a time is about all I can stand.
-
I also finished PHONE BOOTH and enjoyed it as much as I always do.
-
I recorded tonight's BIG BANG THEORY and watched it during the 8:30 timeslot. Funny coincidence, the actor playing the dean of the university who fires one of the guys is the same actor who played the publisher on tonight's MEDIUM.
-
NEW AMSTERDAM's case was very rudimentary. I figured out the shooter's identity very early.
I also predicted a couple of weeks ago that the doctor might not be the "true love" John is seeking. Next week's season finale should be interesting to see what kind of cliffhanger they end the season with. Of course, the show may not be renewed, so the cliffhanger may never have a resolution.

Miss Marmelstein
-
Page Seventeen Poppy Field Dance!!!
-
MEDIUM had another fascinating episode.
I have to admit that once we got to the final murder with Patricia Arquette in a naval uniform and the victim saying he had never done this before, I guessed the killer was going to be a gay man.
-
Tomorrow will be another disc of Tila Tequila episodes (four more, I'm guessing). I'd also like to see another MR. WONG mystery (which I'll probably watch as I'm cooking and eating lunch0 Yep, lunch out postponed until Wednesday.)
-
MICHELE MORGAN
(Actress)
-
Marcia Mitzman
(of Chess fame)
-
Oh, Mickey Rooney's real name, DR Ron Pulliam, was Joe Yule, Jr. Mickey Maguire was certainly the name of his rambunctuous movie character, and he may have gone by that name for a time, too, but it was not his real name, only his "reel name."
-
Marty McFly (from BACK TO THE FUTURE).
-
Now, I must write for a bit and then head down to bed.
Good night!
-
Mary Morris
(Actress)
-
Matthew Murray
(Talkin' Broadway theater critic)
-
Well, I must say that I was going to be happy if we got 100 preorders in the first twenty-four hours, but we're already close to 200 and most places haven't gotten the press releases yet.
-
Of course, one person bought 130 copies. He's a private dealer.
-
Mystery Meat
Has anyone done Mystery Meat?
My guess is either Elmore and/or Michael Barnum, but that's only a guess.
-
Sad & strange they both died so close to each other. What was the cause?
It was very strange. Mike Mentzer died of complications of Berger's disease which caused kidney failure and his brother Ray died of heart failure.
-
Orders still coming in - amazing. I LOVE it.
-
Rock Chalk Jay Hawk. Go Kansas! I went to KU in what seems like several life times ago, but was really only 27 years ago. I got my degrees from Iowa, but was a flute performance major when I was at KU
-
Molly McCart, star of TEEN AGE CRIME WAVE.
-
MATTHEW MODINE
-
Have we mentioned Marmee March (Little Women)?
-
Did we do Michael Musto yet?
-
Cheers and continued Pre-order vibes for Kritzerland!
-
Martin Mull
Funny you mentioned him. Just today I got about 20 DVDs from a collector who sold me copies of "Fernwood 2Nite" and "America 2Nite," neither of which are commercially available. I'm so excited to see them again.
Mandy Moore - Isn't that someone?
You betcha!
Here's one of my favorites of hers:

Ms. Madonna??
-
I just thought of another MM name, but no one has posted in between. So, I'm going to post it anyway, since the day is almost over:
M'Lisa MacLaren from BK's very own Stages. ;D

And since we're so close...
-
PAGE 18 M&M DANCE!!
