I love the movie MIDNIGHT.....although it doesn't quite....QUITE.....reach the delirious heights of PALM BEACH STORY.....only one other comedy of its type from the 1930's always makes me laugh - in the right spots....and that is DESIRE with Gary Cooper and Marlene Dietrich.

Of course having Mary Astor always helps...love her lines/delivery/reactions in PALM BEACH STORY - "Buy that hat, dear, it makes you look as if you have a chin......"

I LOVE DESIRE!  And I've not seen it in years!  Is it out on DVD?

Another great line from PALM BEACH STORY, delivered by Mary Astor:  "I grow on people, like moss."

MIDNIGHT has one of my favourite movie lines, I've quoted here before, delibered by Rex O'Malley:  "I used to swallow things as a child. My mother never left me alone in the room with an arm chair."  It also has one of Barrymore's last good performances.

This is still not as shocking to me as a Sherlock Holmes without a deerstalker.

Well, I guess it would depend on the circumstances. Basil Rathbone didn't wear a deerstalker in any of the twelve modernized Universal films, and they worked just fine.

I began my evening of entertainment watching the rest of THE FASHION SHOW. I agreed completely with the winner, but I certainly didn't agree on the loser this week. A very irritating choice.

Then, to clear off some room on the DVR, I got Adam Lambert's last three IDOL show performnaces duped and those episodes erased. That cleared off about 14% of what had been taking up valuable DVR real estate.

Next, I watched and duped last night's PUSHING DAISIES. Kristin Chenoweth got to sing a bit, and the mystery was fairly involving.

Then I picked out of the Warner Archive stack of discs THEY ONLY KILL THEIR MASTERS. True, it's not a very good movie, but it has all those wonderful old MGM stars making a film on the old backlot, so I enjoyed seeing it again.

Disc had decent color (maybe a bit dated), only a few white specks, and was anamorphic, so I was pleased with the condition of the print they used for the transfer.

I ended my evening watching tonight's LAW & ORDER: CRIMINAL INTENT. I liked the twist as to the murderer's identity. They fooled me completely.

-Walk down Madison Avenue from 96th Street to 59th - CHECK!

It was another great walk.  It turned out that the "Salute To Israel" Parade was today also.  So, coupled with the Japan Day Celebration in Central Park, Madison Avenue had quite a lot of foot traffic.

*And since there is a surprising dearth of Starbucks on the UES, any café or restaurant that had a bathroom was also busy.  ;)

Now I must go open up some windows so I can cool the house down during the night. Then, it's off to bed.

Good night!

We saw the lovely staged reading of THE GRAND TOUR at the York, starring Jason Graae, Nancy Anderson and James Barbour.

I almost headed over to The York once I was down in that neighborhood, but I needed to get off of my feet for a bit - and get some caffeine in my system, so I stopped into the ING Direct Café.

It's an interesting concept: part coffee shop, part banking center, part internet café, and part running and biking accessories store(!).  They even have a special Orange (of course) ING Direct hybrid bicycle for sale!

However, the best thing about it is that they serve Peet's Coffee!  And for only $2.00 a cup!  In fact, all of their basic coffee drinks are priced at $2.00, and if you want a cappuccino or a macchiato those will run you $3.00.  And if you happen to have an ING account or an ING mug, then you either get your coffee for free or for a buck!

I took a seat upstairs where there are some comfy couches and bar stools, and while I rested my feet, I was also able to recharge my iPhone too - lots of plugs!

Once the caffeine kicked in, I then headed up to 59th and Lexington where I hopped on the N Train to head into Astoria for tonight's Marriage Equality New York rally in Athens Square Park...

Gee, I guess the glory days of people traveling to come see one of their own's show is done - I remember what fun we all had coming to PennyO's show.  Oh, well, we'll survive and have fun with those who do show up.

bk - For many DRs, a few hours drive - or a subway ride - is much, much cheaper than a flight out to L.A.

And, yes, there just happened to be more than a few DRs who came to see DR PennyO's show.  Keep in mind, however, that many of those DRs just happened to already have something going in NYC that weekend already.  -And I was playing for Penny, so...

Plus, the Nudie readings are taking place on a Monday and a Tuesday - which, for many DRs are work days - or-looking-for-work days (myself included).

I'm sure if things were more "aligned", you'd have a nice showing of DRs at the reading.  Is DR Pogue coming out to see the reading? Will DR Jolie Femme happen to be back in LA in two weeks?

In the meantime, just think of the turnout you'll have when you bring Nudie to New York City.

And stop being so curmudgeonly about it. ;)

*And I have to say that I was surprised - and still am - at how many DRs joined me for the First HHW Walking and Eating and Walking and Eating Tour.  We had 17 people over the course of the day!  And, again, that was just a case of things aligning properly.

But even if I had had only one DR joining me on that gastro-tour, I still would have been flattered and thankful for their company and "trust" that day.
