It’s shocking to hear that BK, of all people, has seen only two stage productions of Wait Until Dark, and they both sucked.
I’ve seen only one, but I drew the lucky straw. It was a community theater production about eighteen years ago, and here’s what they did. They opened the script and followed it to the letter. Not one word changed, set design (it’s in the script) perfect, lights out directions followed, etc. The entire play was gripping, and of course the icing on the cake was when the audience collectively hit the ceiling at a certain special moment. A few lucky people were even seeing it for their first time. Stunning, and so rewarding.
I know the gal who played Suzy and I should ask her if there’s any videographic evidence. On second thought, maybe not. The quality would be horrible, and I’d probably prefer to cherish my memory of it.
