Comparing dining out in NYC with LA has its problems:
New York City has about 50% more folks occupying a lot less real estate than does LA.
To compare NYC dining with LA you would have had to try:
Artesia for Indian
Westminster for Vietnamese
Long Beach for Cambodian
Chino for Basque
Solvang for Danish
San Pedro for Slavic
Manhattan Beach, Laguna Beach, Malibu, Costa Mesa for up-scale dining
Also, the life style differences between very urban NYC and basically suburban LA argues for many more, (hence better choice), restaurants in NYC (I venture a guess that the average New Yorker eats out much more frequently than does the average Angeleno) - compare the number of supermarkets on Manhattan with the same population area in LA).
