STREAMERS is almost a photographed stage play DR JOHNG....with some fine performances. And one of the very few Robert Altman movies I haven't seen.
Well, darn! I need some Vel to make my hands as soft as a rose.

Do you think Steve wrote those specialty lyrics?
They virtually reek of his genius, don't you think? They virtually reek of something. Genius may not be the word for it.
And the word of the day is: LOGORRHEA!
DR Jennifer - A waffle is basically a piece of bread. Fried chicken and a piece of bread is not "odd". -I actually like fried chicken and pancakes. -And since pancakes and waffles can be made from the same batter, well...
Is "fried chicken and biscuits" odd to you too?
Speaking of coming attractions, I'm happy to report that it looks like my brother-in-law has finally secured permanent employment at a major L.A. trailer producing firm, after several years of having to freelance in the wake of the economic downturn. We're really excited and happy for him, it's been a very tough couple of years.Great news. I found out another friend who got laid off around the time I did just found a job.
Good stories DR JMK.Ditto.
And I join you in remembering and thanking our Armed Forces - past and present.
My friend Craig came through his surgery well. He's now waiting to hear if the tumor was benign or not. Thank you all for the vibes for him. That's great news.
DR CILLA LIZ - I am sending you an envelope tomorrow.
Well, darn! I need some Vel to make my hands as soft as a rose.
What's really scary is that I remember it ON TV!
An envelope full of Vel?

.how Joe crawled from house to house turning off the gas...and other little things
Continued vibes for DR Elmore's friend Craig!
Enough kicking around the block of DR MBarnum! I hope he is having a good day, wherever his mind may be.
I would like to virtually salute our men and women of the Armed Forces, as well as remember my own dear, departed father, Major General Michael B. Kauffman.
As some of you may remember, my Dad was a technical advisor on PATTON (he was one of Patton's battalion commanders). The character of "Coughlin" in the movie may or may not have been based, albeit slightly, on my father. We were invited to the Seattle World Premiere, where my father was one of the VIPs. The premiere had an honest to goodness pipe organ prelude and all the hoo-hah that used to happen in those days--the organist rose up on a big hydraulic lift, I remember.
When the movie started, my Dad leaned over and whispered, "That looks like Patton, but it sure as hell doesn't sound like him--he had the whiniest high voice you've ever heard." :)
Yes, I know I've told that anecdote before, but that's never stopped me.

DR George, CHRISTOPHER AND HIS KIND was a wonderful biography, but I like everything I've read by Isherwood. If you've never read THE BERLIN STORIES, "Mr Norris Changes Trains" and "Goodbye to Berlin," you should. When I was in high school, I began reading the literary sources of my favorite and not so favorite musicals. I've never read Seven and a Half Cents, but I've read the sequel about making the musical, Say, Darling. I remember the following:
Tenderloin
Candide
Prettybelle
The Sisters Liked Them Handsome
The Once and Future King
The Happy Time
Meet Me In St Louis
Flower Drum Song
There were more; my mind's thinking about Victor Herbert!

That is impressive & a great idea!!!
DR Ginny i like your plan to watch the ceremony from the comfort of your home.
DR Jose, if I ate like you did, I'd weigh 900 pounds!!! Of course if I walked like you I'd be skinny as a bean pole, lol
Sounds like you had a nice day
I am in a kind of weirdly eclectic listening mood. I started the day with that great old Mercury Living Presence Dorati reading of Respighi's Ancient Airs and Dances and now I'm listening to the King's Singers do William Billings (do in only the nicest, most platonic sense).
Last night I watched a rather nice Spanish production of Alfano's Cyrano de Bergerac. It's rather sad that he's only remembered for completing Turandot--the guy could write. :)

Good morning...
Today, my best gal, Sabrina, and I are heading over to Santa Cruz for a lovely day away. Unfortunately, the weather isn't the best, but as long as it isn't raining, it's cool. We are going to the Beach Boardwalk and will probably hit the downtown area. There will be fried food eaten, sweets purchased, and hopefully sparkling conversation. I say hopefully because every time we get together, we end up talking about the ex. - we were all friends even though I brought her into the relationship. The ex, in fact, never said word one to her when he broke up- and this is a wonderful person who was over the house at least once a week, she watched the dogs whenever we needed it, and was a great help to us when needed. Not one word, I tell you. I feel bad for her. She's wanted to call him, but what would she say? I know what I'd love her to say, but talking to the ex is a waste of anyone's time and I don't wish it on anyone.
On that note (an ALW D-Flat), I have a load of towels in the laundry and am going to walk over to Starbucks. (7 minutes door to door, can't beat that - ON FOOT!!!)
DR Ginny i like your plan to watch the ceremony from the comfort of your home.
It was quite moving, with singers who didn't feel the necessity to turn patriotic songs into pop numbers (like the ones in last night's concert). Richard was pretty wiped out when he got home - showered, had lunch, watched a little TV, and now has slept for a couple of hours.

Where in tarnation IS everyone? You'd think it was a holiday or something.
My friend Craig came through his surgery well. He's now waiting to hear if the tumor was benign or not. Thank you all for the vibes for him.
It's 87 degrees and very humid and windy here today. A cold front is about to move through. This is tornado weather, hopefully if any touch down they will be in the middle of nowhere.
Joe set up a facebook page to let people know how he's doing. He has his story of the day of the tornado...wow. Anyway, you can friend him at Joe Royer (the one from Joplin Mo) or you can find him through my facebook page.
Enough kicking around the block of DR MBarnum! I hope he is having a good day, wherever his mind may be.
He should be arriving home soon if he isn't there yet.
Thanks to George, I have Ethel Merman singing "Everything's Coming Up Roses" on the DVD and, well, I think everything's going to be bright lights and lollipops today. For all of us.
George, just finished listening to "At Long Last Love." It's like getting reacquainted with an old friend after too many years. Many thanks.
According to Wikipedia, "At Long Last Love" is available online through Netflix:
"To date, there has never been a home video release of the film in any format, though it became available to stream online in early 2011."
And this is only for the few of us who care.
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!

I can hear the conversation in the car now...
"Mom, are you sure you don't need to stop for a bathroom. I mean, we're passing by Sunrise right now. I'm sure they wouldn't mind letting you go in..."
Jose, i tagged Craig. Again, thank you for your patience explaining it to me. :-*
You're welcome, Jane.

Did you show up at your next-door neighbor's house a lot, Cillaliz? ;-)
Today I received a special delivery letter.

I hope it was after they discovered penicillin!
We finished Downton Abbey and loved it! We are looking forward to Season 2. Oh, that Mrs. O'Brien. She tarnishes the good name of Ireland but she did have second thoughts so I'll cut her some slack.
Well, I managed to take the garbage out and make it back into the house without falling again; so that is some improvement.

'The Good Companions" is one of my all-time favorite novels. I think of Elizabeth Trent, Inigo Jollifant, Joss, Susie and the rest as real companions to me, which is what a great novel is supposed to do. I know people who feel the same about "Pride and Prejudice," but this is the book for me.DR George, CHRISTOPHER AND HIS KIND was a wonderful biography, but I like everything I've read by Isherwood. The sisters Liked Them Handsome was the source for HIGH BUTTON SHOES. I really enjoyed the Sally Benson stories Meet Me In St Louis as well. I remembered more that I read:
Gypsy
The Happy Time
The Son of the Grand Eunuch (Rodgers & Hart's CHEE-CHEE)
A Connecticut Yankee In King Arthur's Court
Buried Alive (DARLING OF THE DAY)
The Good Companions
Greenwillow
The Story of the Trapp Family Singers
Anna and the King of Siam
Tales of the South Pacific
The Phantom of the Opera
Les Miserables
My mom's threat to my dad is always "Shape up or you're going to the home";D
As for the Topic of the Day...
The ones that come right to mind are:
"The Lords of Discipline"
"Saving Private Ryan"
"South Pacific"
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
