I caught a delightful musical comedy entertainment tonight called The Brian From Planet X.  I don't know if you've heard of it, but it was filled with delights: driving and infectious melodies, rendered in brilliant orchestrations by a very fine band.  And the performances of two young man were particularly captivating: No, I don't mean the ones in the skimpy trunks.  Cason Murphy and Benjamin Clark had all sorts of funny takes, and appealing voices.  I also liked the pre-zap parents, and the business of the flopping rag-doll of a girl was priceless.  Very glad I went.

Whew!  At last.  Thank you, Noel.

Oh man, I might have to join the local peace protesters.  The young man I just saw speaking on the news is adorable

I began my evening watching an anamorphic DVD - another BONES episode but the first on the new set. It was the one with Zach getting his doctorate and Brennan finally seeing her father again after many years of separation. Ryan O'Neal plays her dad.

Next I needed to recalibrate my PS3 (blu-ray player) so that it could send 1080p signals to the set since I now have one that can accept them. Once I got that switched over, I put in CHICAGO on Blu-ray and played "They Both Reached for the Gun," "Roxie," and "Hot Honey Rag" to see what true 1080p HD would look like. Need I say it roasted my eye sockets. Wow! I was in sheer heaven, and I wanted to watch an entire movie, but I had a DVD obligation I had to get under my belt tonight.

Yes, and thank you, DR TCB. I copied the address and will go there once I finish up here. Looking forward to seeing what's there.

I have not seen any campaign ads except for the moveon.org one bashing Sen. Norm Coleman from Minnesota.

They don't have DECEMBER BRIDE!  One of my all-time favorite shows.

TCB, you can find a nice set of December Bride episodes here....http://www.ioffer.com/i/DECEMBER-BRIDE-50-s-Classic-TV-24-Episodes-DVD-15175117

That is someone MBarnum should interview - Gary Conway.  BURKE'S LAW, LAND OF THE GIANTS.

Oh Hell, I am sure he has already had him.

I do wish! However I have interviewed Gary's LAND OF THE GIANTS co-star Don Marshall.

The campaign ads started here about 6 months ago. They will end after then next presidential election is over.  I don't answer my phone from about 5 PM to 9 PM because it's a candidate or like tonight when I so foolishly picked it up, someone asking me who I'm going to caucus for.  this time I'm telling them all I'm undecided, but I may start telling them a different person every time.

We really dont have primaries up here. They tend to ignore us. How ever the Reps are really active. I am lucky for I am not home at night and dont get phone calls since I work.  I have seen a McCain add and the local parties are getting nasty. ND has a governor and a senate seat in the next election.

Next, I watched THE 3 PENNY OPERA (as it's written on the cover art). I had never seen this film before, and it was something else.

First, the aspect ratio is narrower than the usual old Academy ratio of 1.33:1. Criterion lists it as 1.19:1, almost a square image which was very narrow and certainly cramped some of the compositions.

Like most musicals done then, the actors sang live rather than prerecording their vocals, so the numbers are very static since they don't move around much.

Wow! Lots of music is missing, and the story, especially the ending, is very different. Lucy Brown's stuff is gone with the wind (a Victor Fleming reference). It's funny hearing Lenya sing with a soprano voice. My, she was so young! The actress playing Polly talks more than she sings, but when you hear her brittle voice, it's easy to see why. She's no Jo Sullivan!

The transfer looks very good for a film that's 76 years old. Sound is adequate but naturally lacks any real fidelity.

Did I mention Callie had her follow-up appointment today? She was not at all pleased to see the people at "That place".  She has to have meds 3 times a day now, we're adding another dose of lactalose right before bed time.  Other than that I'm just supposed to keep an eye on her. She's doing much better and was THRILLED to leave the vet.   If I have already mentioned this.....Never mind.

DR MBarnum, have you personally ordered from that website?  Are they reliable, responsive, etc.?  I only ask because that other site [tvboxset.com] appears to be a sham.

I did not know anything about ioffer.com...that bears investigating, too!

Bill Clinton has been to ND

George Dubya was also and my name was on the list of those who were not allowed to attend. I suspect it may be due to my scathing letter about Iraq to the local paper.
