Today I get to observe a grants review panel deliberating over 8 applications for funding for performing arts projects.  Interesting to observe the process, which is open to the public because it's tax money being distributed.  The event takes place right in the Library auditorium, so I'll be in and out.

So, is the car in question a relatively new one?  Or are you due for a new one?

The car is a 1990 Ford Probe SL, silver gray, with approximately 66,000 miles on it.  I bought it used in 1993 from original owner when it had 33,000 miles on it.

It has been used for driving to/from work, and sundry around-town excursions, as needed.  I would be amazed if it were to suddenly be declared truly "dead" as it's in quite sound condition.

The Bay area's air quality is, according to meteorolgist Steve Paulson of our Fox affiliate, "lousy."

We have hazy, smoky overcast conditions, primarily owing to a fire burning in the South Bay for the third (or fourth?) consecutive day.

Add the smoke to the marine layer and you get a very eerie sky, with a sunrise that's both beautiful and ominous.  I did not notice any smells yesterday, but I can detect the "smokiness" in the air this morning.

;D ;D Unfortunately, Jose, most life before 10:30 consists of just what you said--breakfast and laundry. Well, for me it's checking email and HHW, too.   ;)

:)

Although, it's a good thing I'm getting into "early mode" since I'll have to be in "early mode" while I'm in Charlotte this weekend.  My audition briefing is at 9:00am each day.  -Although, at least on Saturday, I'm supposed to be done by Noon, so at least I can take a nap in the afternoon.  :)

Car vibes for DR RLP.....irritating machines....

Moon void, you know.

Yes, DR CILLA LIZ....there are several each month, but they usually only last a few minutes at a time.

Such wonderful words about the Cabaret Acts from last night in the notes.

Sounds like FUN FUN FUN.

I guess I have seen a few cabaret shows.....but nothing that stands out....for good or ill.

Eventually.

My mindset is in "I'm going to be late for work if I don't move now" mode.

Reality is I'm staying put until I hear from my mechanic.

I have some apple-cinnamon oatmeal heating in the microwave.

It's in my soup bowl.   Sadly, there's no "dedicated" oatmeal bowl in my house.

DR MattH....I know you were relieved when your cable was restored last night.

I, too, watched last night's "Bones"...and it was a repeat for me, as well.  BUT...I hadn't seen it in high-def the first time.  WOW!  That show popped very nicely.

Crap.

Again I say, "Crap."

Inexplicably (as of yet), my car "died" on the road at a traffic light yesterday afternoon at 5:15, approximately one mile from home.

AAA was called.  I was made a "priority".  Truck arrived  1 hour 15 minutes later.     FUN!

Car towed to my mechanic of choice who was, surprisingly, still at work, but not "working", per se.  He wrote out a work order and said he'd call me this morning as soon as he figured out what the trouble is.

Sigh.

Again I say, "Sigh."

And crap, too.

As someone who despises all and any kind of car trouble (because I'm so ignorant about what makes them tick), I have great empathy for you. So sorry this happened.

TCB (or PVC, if you prefer),
It makes me angry to hear about the treatment you're receiving from your doctor. It's just like what I experienced. So little compassion, so much one-size-fits-all. One doctor pooh-poohed my request for a colonoscopy at age 50, gave me a sigmoidoscopy instead, telling me it was the same thing (literally!), then, when it was negative, gave me a verbal pat on the head, completely ignoring all my concerns. I dropped that doc. (He also did some very sloppy prescribing.) Another doc, says to me whenever I express a concern about my health, "But you look so healthy!" Arrrgghhh!! For me, it was a matter of hitting the books, reading up as much as I could, and then being VERY selective with the docs. I have no health insurance, all visits are in cash out of my pocket, so if a doctor or treatment doesn't help, well, you get the picture.

My conclusion, after many years of seeing dozens of doctors and receiving lots of treatment: that the majority of practitioners are far behind the research. There is a LOT of research taking place, but in order to keep up with it, said practitioner must do a lot of reading and/or attend seminars. Most, in my view, have chosen to maximize profits by seeing more patients and have neglected the keeping-up part. I know a number of retired physicians; what they say isn't pretty.

Sorry to be so negative, but that's my view.

Good morning!

Another reasonably cool morning, but afternoon temperatures continue into the mid-90s for another week. Argh! How I hate this! But the mornings are cooler. At least that's comething to celebrate.

Yep, it's one of the really nice ones in HD.

My cable was not restored until this morning. More about that in a minute.

Very sorry to read about Marcia Mae Jones (which DR MBarnum posted last night but I didn't read until this morning) and, of course, Pavorotti.

Did MATTH or any other DRs see the film THE SECRET LIFE OF WORDS?
I watched it last night, an impulse rental. Very moving story about the atrocities of war-- not for the faint of heart.

The cable repairman showed up about 9:15 this morning. It took him about 45 minutes to fix the damage. Whatever it was that jerked down my phone line Tuesday morning also tore the cable line, too. At any rate, verything's fine now.

When the man came into the house to check on the hookups, etc. he noticed the good picture on the set, and I told him I was on the verge of buying a new set (larger screen, higher resolution, more digital connections), and he offered to buy mine, so now I won't have to advertise for a buyer.

So something good did come from this maddening experience.
