It's beautiful here, too. I guess the start of a new month just gives me hope that soon this awful summer heat wave will be history. Fall can't get here soon enough for me.

A little too much info, Sis -- or as we say on HHW -- most unseemly (for a lady to admit!)  ;)

And to just what are you referring, my dear soul sister?  [Jeanne says as she blinks her eyes]

I know that MATTH and I will celebrate the first donning of the sweaters this fall. It looks like we'll have some company. All on different days, of course, due to different climates.

I will don my winter coat (a sweater) in December.

I was just posting when I suddenly got unregistered. Humm.. maybe my stupid ISP again.

I was in the midst of posting about how I spent the last couple hours decluttering my kitchen. It ALWAYS takes longer than I expect. Yes, this is a MOAN. Maybe that's why the first post didn't post.  :)

Suburb opens this Thursday -- press night is Tuesday -- and I'm ready to be committed to Sunny Vale.

When all is said and done, I'll have to post a recap of my AD experience -- and experience it has been... BUT I've learned a lot (that maybe I don't want to be a director after all ....) so in that respect it's been a perfect practicum for my Master (not the part about maybe not wanting to be a director any more -- that actually is undermining my Master plan -- but the part about learning so much has been good).

I'm really proud of the set and worked with the guy yesterday to get all the lighting set -- my first lighting design project and I think it's going to look really cool -- got to use some gobos (guess that's how you spell it) for two scenes -- red flames for the barbecue scene which is written as very frenzied and rtitualistic and a window pane with the light blue moonlight spilling through for a night time bedroom scene.  Oops, too much info but the lighting got me fired up again after a bad week (I was ready to walk one night -- grrrrr -- working with some of the people -- grrrrr!)

Oh, and the cast is doing really well -- they've got it down pretty much, they just need to stay focused -- at times they seem to know know the music but are starting to flub some of the lyrics again now that they're messing with props and costume changes (the music it rather Sondheimish so tricky -- and not forgiving if you get the least bit distracted) -- and they're at that point where they need an audience.  I know it's there, I just haven't seen them turn it up to the full wattage yet.

Okay, DR Jeanne is the little angel on your right shoulder saying in the sweet voice "Go for a walk, Dear BK" while Mz Karen is the little devil on the left shoulder saying in her Exorcist voice, "DONUT, DAMN IT!"

Walk, donut?  Walk, donut?  ...  DONUT, DAMN IT!

Oh, I see, Miss Innocent, by "let it rip" you were meaning RIP -- as in "let it rest in peace"? (Karen says as she smiles knowingly) ...

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I ended up falling asleep last night and waking up to this morning a new recording of Bach's "Goldberg Variations" by the pianist, Simone Dinnerstein.  I had seen a few write-ups about her and her recording over the past few weeks, and since it was on sale at Virgin yesterday, well...

Of course, I ended up listening to almost all of the 30 variations and the da capo of the Aria before I finally drifted off to sleep last night.  As most of the reviews have indicated, this is not your "Father's Goldbergs".  Even the main Aria upon which the following variations are based is imbued with more, well, "musicality", than I've ever heard before.  -The repeat of the first section is actually haunting in a way - I ended up hitting the rewind button a few times last night just to listen to it again, amazing sense of color and control.

And when I woke up this morning... It was a good thing to wake up to.  Alas, I also found out that there's a bad area on the disc - lots of skipping in one of the variations - so I'll have to take it back to Virgin today for an exchange.  However, what wasn't skipping was still quite a fascinating and illuminating listen.

-And, yes, it's a BEAUTIFUL day here in NYC.  Again!  :)

The white pelicans often nest in the lakes area where my parents live. But they aren't there this year.

Tonight we were discussing how there are fewer songbirds this year, noticibly so. Has anyone else noticed that?

Sadly, that seems to be true, but there are a lot more rapperbirds around than I care to hear.

Good morning all -

And a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to our dear Ron Pulliam!  I know my mother has already done enough birthday wishing to cover the entire Murphy clan, if not everyone else on here, but I figure you can never hear "Happy Birthday" enough...

Here is a great idea for a full HHW gathering (provided someone wins the Mega millions or the Powerball).

Good Afternoon!

Well... I need to get ready to head in for my matinee.  It's not until three, but I think I'll do my usual routine of getting off the subway a couple of stops early, and walking down to the theatre - it's just such a beautiful day.  -I also have to stop in Virgin to exchange my defective CD.

Then it's a possible dinner with some DRs, and then I'm seeing/hearing Eldar at The Blue Note tonight - his late/last set.  I can't wait!  :)

So...

Laters...
