Next came Luis Buñuel's THE MILKY WAY which certainly held my interest even when I didn't understand all the religious allusions he was throwing at me every thirty seconds. It's surreal, of course, as so many of his films are, and there are some funny moments amid all the lecturing on the evils of restrictive dogma of the Catholic Church, but when all is said and done, if you need a playbill to understand all these heresies he's using as symbols or illustrations of his points, it's too enigmatic for the casual consumer. Or at least for THIS casual consumer.
