Great avatar, DR TCB.     :)

Yes! If they ever need Dreamfinder again at Disney's Epcot, they should know where to find him! ;)

The AC is fixed. The fancy new digital thermostat said it was 97F when he installed it.

This is truly not directed at anyone today, but just a general thought that's been on my mind as I prepare to subject my own work to theater criticism, and as I read critques of Skip's work on Herringbone (which was ecstatic for the most part) and for his one-act at 59E59 (generally quite pleasant for Skip, with one bitchy exception).

All of us prefer enjoying something we see in the theater rather than hating it.  But the irony is that it is more interesting to write about, and also more interesting to read about, something a person really hated than something a person really loved.  Somehow, and this seems to be universal, whether they be critics, chatters or just folks, people are more inclined to say "Wow, so-and-so should be a critic" after thy've wittily or cleverly or pointedly pointed out the flaws in something rather than its virtues.  My point:  we ARE more interesting when we are being negative rather than positive, especially but not only when it comes to critquing works of art or that aspire to art.

End of theory.  If I'm wrong,. I hope something will enthusiastically pull apart what i said.  :)  I'd like to be wrong about this, but I think it pervades theater criticism.  Skip used to be a critic and one day his editor told him:  It's easy to be bitchy, it's difficult to give specific praise and to give the true proportions of a performance.

I think that praising someone is a sign of humility, while pointing out the "bad" makes us feel more "intelligent" and smart! It's an ego trip! IMHO!

Great news DR Laura!  That is what our outside temps have been, until the storm last night.  It didn't look like rain was coming, but boy did it feel like it.

Our old house never had any roaches, however the new one does! They scurry around the front porch at night and try to get in. Uck! We will be dealing with them first thing!

Last night, I watched The Apple[/b].  I know that it's been discussed here, but I just had to see it for myself.  My thoughts:  it was only about an hour and a half long and the guy who plays Alphie is cute. ;)

Just purchased on DVD AND CD!

Even if they never seem to end... I "love" the dances"! "If The Rain Gonna Fall...."! Such a joy!

Was talking about this very film with hotel guests last night; saw the film at the Dominion (London) in 1967!! Yes! 1967! And i fell in love with Tommy Steele! (If I Had Money To Burn.... I'd buy me a BANJO!)

I love THE APPLE!  (In a so bad it's good kinda way)!
Alphie is indeed a cutie-patootie!
It's also fun to see a young Miriam Marguyles as the landlady.
Maybe I'll go watch THE APPLE again.

Rodney Gilfry just called me and this apartment search has been a nightmare from hell: the papers came through for the apartment on 157th and Broadway but it is not ready to be occupied: he told me this morning that there's been no work on it since Monday when we saw it and the girls cannot move in before the middle of next week. He was concerned because there was no crew working today and since it's a holiday weekend, he's shafted.  So, there may be another possibility in the same neighborhood through another broker that he may go fo now.  The poor man may have lost the money on the other apartment (which I heard the broker tell him wouod be ready by September 1), and I admire his energy and good spirits, but this is ridiculous. These landlords should be hanged by their balls.
