Well, you've read the notes, the notes ended on a high note (Ab), and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently singing a high C for Cow.
-
And the word of the day is: AGEMATE!
-
I don't know about ending June on a high note. I'll be glad to see the back of this month because in the UK it's been the wettest June since records began in 1910. In fact the whole period April - June has been the wettest since 1910. With the Olympics starting towards the end of July everyone is hoping for an improvement but there's no good weather in sight yet.
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Glad to hear about Follies.
-
It's supposed to be a scorcher today.
We are finally getting over to Lincoln Center to see the Noel Coward exhibit and the Revues exhibit in the smaller space. While there we may take out a DVD for perusal this evening, depending on the heat in the living room when we return.
-
We will be on Long Island for the 4th of July and a few days after that. I'm looking forward to the time away.
-
It's already 79 degrees at 6:09am. I have to go out to run a few errands later (around 8am). Don't know what it will be like then.

I was just going to report that it's 79 outside!
Good morning, all! I slept terribly: around 2am, i turned off the AC. It seemed to do nothing but make noise, and the rest of the night was lousy. I will leave very shortly for Toyland and work there for part of the day in the AC.
I have nothing else to report.
Have fun at the NYPL exhibits, DR Ben! They're both quite interesting.
-
Good morning, all.
Even though it's way too early on a Saturday morning to be saying good morning or anything else.
I'd turned the (central) a/c off at midnight because the house was plenty cool; in fact, almost too cold. That should have been fine till maybe mid-morning, but I woke up at 6 a.m., and though the temperature itself was still fine, the air was just too stale, or too still. Except I had a fan blowing. But it "needed something". Turned the a/c back on, and all was right again, but here I am with a few hours less sleep than needed. I do not look forward to the next electric bill. Fortunately, it's a day with no particular obligation to do any particular thing, and I'll get a nap later.
So here I sit, drinking coffee and looking forward to "Follies" at 7:30 in the a.m.

I really MUST slow down when reading --- I read that " it's been the wettest June since weather began in 1910"

Good news about FOLLIES. I have never seen the show. I have the original cast LP.....but haven't listened to it in many years....decades.
-
OH - it was the singer's show last night....the Kritzerland Show is tomorrow night. okay...
-
At the store about 4 o'clock, there was a lot of clouds and some breeze, but no rain or storm....none at home either....must have missed us by a few miles.

Everyone enjoy this LAST DAY OF JUNE.

Greetings from Toyland!

Thank you, DR Jrand61, for posting that. I needed an opening in which to confess the same. Embarrassing, considering I've lived one hour from the city for 23 years. I have LPs and/or CDs, but this upcoming release by MR BK is going to be my inroad to this masterpiece, not to mention my salvation and redemption, all in one neat little package.
-
Okay, what I have are the original cast LP on Capitol (!!) and the 2-LP concert with the NY Philharmonic. For music, the big "Follies Songbook", I think it's called. It's a start.
-
And the word of the day is: AGEMATE!
And The Song Of The Day Is: TRIPLETS
-
Not a creature is stirring.
-
Actually, no creature in sight.
-
TOD:
They're not a Kritzerland album, but how about doing a show about the songs of:
Paul Francis Webster and Sammy Fain
Aside from the fact that they were both friends and clients, they did write some terrific tunes.
-
In fact, I might even fly into town for that one.
-
Amazon is going to start charging sales tax to Texas residents starting tomorrow, so I'm pre-ordering DVDs today.
-
Good morning, all.
And cooling vibes to all. (Surprisingly it's only 80 here now as of 9:51 a.m.)
-
Thanks, Druxy. Off to order a couple of items on Amazon today.
-
TOD:
How about redoing one of the cast albums and reinterpreting the songs?
Have you done a Jerry Herman show yet? I can't remember all of the previous themes.
Since you've had problems casting some of the men's parts, how about a show devoted to women's songs (even if you had a man, in a vein similar to David Kernan singing "Could I Leave You?").

The Cinema Theatre Association is dedicated to cinema buildings in the UK and today I spent time in their archive office sorting out some of the masses of material for cataloging and filing. The material is fascinating and I hope to continue helping out on a regualr basis.

THE MUSICAL ADVENTURES OF PETER PAN
Was that the correct title? That doesn't sound right to me. Oh well, maybe I didn't get enough sleep.

I'm now home and the apartment smells like fried bacon!
I am now craving a BLT.

I had one for lunch at a roadside cafe. Very good it was to!

Saturday afternoon greetings from the west side of Lima, OH! We came up this morning for the funeral of one of our parishioners. Marian was diagnosed a couple of years ago with cancer at age 83. She decided not to pursue treatment, but to live as fully and comfortably as possible without being tethered to bottles and machines. Her service was conducted by her daughter's Methodist minister, who had been visiting Marian regularly. She'd told him to do the service right out of the Book of Common Prayer and, when we arrived this morning, he invited Fr. Richard to participate. From the audience, it looked like they'd spent hours preparing and rehearsing. We'll go home after church tomorrow.
-
I hope this slow Saturday isn't due to the terrible storms that rumbled across the country last night. I am thinking that Kevin may be without power today.
-
The crowds have started to descend on the Taste of Tacoma (actually, rather small crowds); but immediately the dark storm clouds started to gather. No rain yet, but...............
-
Fruitful visit to Big Lots. In addition to a Francois Truffaut (Mississippi Mermaid) and the Irene Pappas Elektra, I came across a $3 copy of "Attack of the Puppet People." I know Elmore will not be amused, but I will finally get to sample this slice of cinema history. Don't know when I'll get to watch it, as the new "Great Expectations" just came in at the library and so did "Hugo." But I think it can wait a week or so.
-
Back to homework.
-
I went to a couple of Big Lots a few times a few years ago, and found a couple of decent things, then it dried up and I stopped going. I guess it's time to pay them another visit. Nice to hear they had a Midnite Movies DVD -- maybe I'll wind up with one of the few remaining ones I want (or "need"). (I've got probably two-thirds of them.)
-
Well, the rain has arrived. Actually more of a sprinkle than a storm.

I never know what they're going to have, so I head back there every two or three months or so and usually find at least one. Today, it was five.
-
Had a lovely time with dear reader Jane and her ever-lovin' Keith. We took a long walk, talked - it was grand.
-
Then I picked up a couple of packages, then had a meeting, and in an hour we do our stumble-through. I really don't want to eat the Gardenia food again tonight, but alas - maybe I'll just have some prosciutto and melon and a baked potato or something like that.
-
What is talapia? That was their fish this weekend but I know not what it is.
-
Gave some notes to the East Coast Singer.
-
Having a little allergy thing - maybe I'll take a pill just to nip it in the bud.

It is a very mild whilte fish. Some might call it bland, unless it is seasoned when it is cooked.

I hope some more Kimlets show up today. i don't think I can do this on my own.

Hugh Jackman, in Entertainment Weekly, calls LES MISERABLES the most meaningful film he has worked on in his career. Hmm, I hope it is good.
-
A friend of mine, actually female, tried to get in and see MAGIC MIKE last night, but it was SOLD OUT!
-
Nicky only ate half of his breakfast this morning and he just turned his nose up at dinner. I would be a little worried if he wasn't sitting next to me begging for kitty cookies. And he is now getting adament about his cookies, but it won't do him any good until he has eaten dinner.

Damn! I could have made five posts out of that story.

The temperature here is only in the mid-sixties, but those little rain showers have really increased the humidity.
-
I've had some dinner and I'm contemplating what I wll do tonight. I may watch some movies on VHS thathave not yet made it to CD, like the Disney "The Sword AndThe Rose" aka "When Knighthood Was In Flower," with Glynis Johns and Richard Todd or "Mack The Knife," which I keep turning off because the choreography is dreadful. It's Brecht, for God's sake, not OLIVER!
I bought myself a ticket for the Thursday July 5 matinee of ONE MAN TWO GUVNORS. I am looking forward to it.

Larry, did you go and see the Broadway PORGY AND BESS?

I didn't know what tilapia was either. All of a sudden, just a few years ago, it seemed to be everywhere. Right out of nowhere. It's a nice fish. As DR TCB said. Mild. Nice. Goes with anything!

Frequently on the menu in the dining room at my Mom's retirement community...

The did the same thing, at least out here, about twenty five years ago with Orange Roughy. I had never heard of it until the supermarkets started giving Samples of this terrific new fish.

Yes. When these things happen it's as though someone had just invented a new fish.
-
Larry, did you go and see the Broadway PORGY AND BESS?
I have no plans to see a travesty of a piece I like very much. I'm sorry, DR TCB, but the arrogance and stupidity of the creative team and what they've done to the work violates all I believe in.

It's the truth! It's the fish equivalent of the color ecru for designers.

It seems like the big new thing here is blood oranges.

What the hell is a blood orange? It sounds like a problem for the ER.

I was pretty sure that was your fellings about the production, but I wasn't sure. I totally agree with you.

I thought it was what Anita Bryant tried to suck out of the gay movement in Florida.

Yes, our humidity here is currently 85%.

All I did was to go into my Settings to see if they had changed my e-mail address (they had not). I didn't change anything. The two sidebars are fine, but the wall itself is blank.

What is talapia? That was their fish this weekend but I know not what it is.
It's an innocuous white fish that's being heavily farm-raised now and supposedly in deplorable conditions. Preaching aside, it's supposedly fish for people who don't like fish.
-
What the hell is a blood orange? It sounds like a problem for the ER.
It's a wonderful orange where the flesh and the juice are blood red, though the skin is orange. The taste is sweeter, a little less acidic than regular oranges. They grow in Sicily and Southern California. Very trendy. We made a blood orange-rum gelato in Italy and I have friends who make blood orange margaritas every Friday.

What we need to farm next: Blood Orange Roughy.
DR Elmore posts for me re "Porgy and Bess". Not that that should have to be said. But there it is.
-
We went out for a bit of dinner and to browse in our favorite Lima bookstore (also a Vera Bradley
enabler retailer).
-
Cilla and / or Ginny, did you have any damage from the storm last night?
-
DR TCB, at home we only had one good-sized limb down in the backyard and a lot of twigs in the front. Here in Lima, about 100 miles north, they've lost a lot of trees. The cemetery we were in today was a real mess. I think the big difference is that in 2008 the southern part of the state had a visit from Hurricane Ike that cleaned out a lot of old growth that was still standing further north.

Probably the only niice thing anyone has ever said about Ike. Glad to know you are safe and free of damage.

I made a nice dinner for Vixdad and myself - on the outdoor grill - marinated steak, mushrooms and onions sauteed in a butter & sherry, scallops in a lemon butter garlic and corn on the cob

Vixter was at work

today I did some cleaning

One of my high school classmates (among the sixty of us who have reconnected recently) has been declared brain dead today. He got up in the night because he was hungry, he grabbed a piece of leftovers, and chocked on it. By the time his son found him he was unconscious. The doctors say he is totally brain dead. His son is just trying to bring himself to tell them to pull the plug.

Hugs!

Thanks, DR TCB. There are also a lot of power outages, including at DN/G Lauren's - about a mile from our house. Her sister, Rev. Amy, lives about an hour north of Lima and posted on Facebook about an hour ago that their power had just been restored. There were people browsing in the air conditioned bookstore because theri power was out at home. There are traffic lights out just down the street from the hotel where we're staying.
-
Sorry to hear about your classmate, DR TCB.
-
Our stumble-through was a little rougher than I care for - one actor in particular is really struggling with his lyrics (especially to Come Back to Me), but hopefully it will all be smooth tomorrow. I worked with several people after - our one young (twenty-two) singer has been "trained" to sing while looking over people's heads and I really had to get strong with her. I gave her a ten-minute master class in connecting a song to an audience and if she remembers and does what she did after we went through it all, she'll be terrific. She was overselling and grandstanding, which I don't really allow in these shows, so we worked each of her songs and they're much, much better now. She's really talented.
-
Then Shelly, Adryan Russ, and I went to Jerry's - I had an omelet and a bagel so that I don't now have to eat a meal at the Gardenia. I'll either have some melon or a baked potato or something like that.
-
Sorry to hear about your classmate, DR TCB.
Me too. Such terrible news.
-
It was a pretty nice day today. It's starting to get quite hot again.
-
Very nice at the pool. Lots of people there. And they let us use our noodles.
Love that!
-
Sorry to hear about your friend, TCB.
-
I don't think it got above 90 today. It's now a pleasant 83 outside. So, of course, I'm inside.
-
Swimming noodles i mean. They look like long floaty sticks (like 5 feet long).
So relaxing to sit on one. Then you can just float around the deep end.
-
I am hoping that it will not rain tomorrow night for the fireworks.
-
I hope this slow Saturday isn't due to the terrible storms that rumbled across the country last night. I am thinking that Kevin may be without power today.
You're right, TCB! The power just came back on--hurray!
-
I fell asleep at about 10 last night and woke up about an hour later to the sounds of a horrific storm. The power went out shortly thereafter.
The tree outside my condo lost a few branches--no damage done, though.
-
Glad to have you back, DR KevinH!
-
The power outages were hit and miss. The condos across the driveway had power --they have underground wiring, from what I hear.
-
Glad to have you back, DR KevinH!
Thanks, DR Ginny!
-
The temperature wasn't bad this morning. I went out and bought a cooler, ice, peanut butter, granola bars, etc.
-
I didn't want to come home to the hot apartment, so I went to Macaroni Grill for a late lunch. I lingered.
-
I guess I have to throw out everything from the freezer.
-
My cell phone (it's an old-fashioned flip phone) was losing power. I went to the verizon store to see if they had a car charger. They looked at me like I was crazy, I guess cause I have such an old phone.
-
I now have lights, a/c, internet (obviously) and cable! Yay!
-

I am so very very sorry to hear this, Tom
-
I guess I have to throw out everything from the freezer.
When Hurricane Ike knocked out our power in 2008, we immediately ate all the ice cream like in JURASSIC PARK. The next day Richard and Rob fired up the charcoal grill and cooked all the meat. Being without power for 5 days, though, we ended up pitching everything else from the freezer and refrigerator. Not worth taking a chance.
-
Fortunately when Irene hit last year we had enough warning that I was able to buy dry ice which I put in the freezer and the fridge and it kept things pretty well for the week we were out power (I did have replace the dry ice a couple of times)
-
Incredible meal and evening out on the deck tonight. Fireworks going off for miles, from every direction. Good food, company, drinks, cigars, perfect weather, etc. Now basking in the a/c'd house.
-
Getting news of friends around the northeastern US without power. VIBES to all.
-
Stay safe vibes for aone and aalll
-
Back from the second show. She was so much better tonight - the first third still needs some performance work, but once she got about fifteen minutes in, she got comfortable in her own skin and just had fun and the audience ate her up. She found her center and energy and I now feel if we spend some quality work time that we can easily get everything else smoothed out and she'll then have this locked in. Very full house and good energy.

I gotta tell you.

Amazon is going to start charging sales tax to Texas residents starting tomorrow, so I'm pre-ordering DVDs today.
Amazon is based in Seattle, Washington. We've always had to pay sales tax...except when ordering from marketplace sellers.
I buy from Amazon for the library where I work and I look at the cost of ordering from Amazon direct including sales tax, versus from a seller where shipping is usually charged. Sometimes, sellers don't charge shipping. :)

Surely a classic like ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE would come before GREAT EXPECTATIONS!
And I want a full review, DR John!
-
Speaking of classics, I finally watched the 1940s version of STATE FAIR.
It will never make it into my top favorite musicals.
-
Today, my cousin John and his wife Angel arrived from Oregon. They're visiting for the week since our aunt is up from California. They brought gifts! I got a small wooden lighthouse keychain and a bag of chocolate covered pecans (I've had them before...they're fantastic!) and some chocolate rocks. They're pieces of chocolate with different colored candy coating that look like rocks.
-
DR TCB, that is terrible about your classmate. Just goes to show that you never know when your time may come.
