TOD:
DVD -- Ken Burns' Jazz series.
CD -- I hope something good. Don't know if I'll have time for anything.
-
No viewing plans. We will play it by ear. It's freezer defrosting time (Saturday) and shopping on Sunday.

Good morning, all! I slept late and I will shortly run down to Toyland tyo use the piano. Last night was a lot of crazy dreams, most of which have now run out of my mind. I remember that in one I was working at the Miami University Lbrary and in another I was working at The Drama Book Shop; I have vague memories of a subway or train as well.
Today my goal is to put onto paper a couple of more songs for this Appalachian project and to determine the keys of the recorded things the director has sent as mp3 files. I've got a lot of ideas for revisions to "The West Virginia Mining Disaster," so I guess I'll be playing with that number for a cople of days to come.
I also have to take apart my EILEEN vocal score and break it down by singer, so I can have books assembled for the chorus and soloists. I now have two ore numbers to proofread.
TOD:
DVD: LOVE FOR LYDIA final disc, a couple of operas, ROMAN HOLIDAY
CD: Appalachian folk music, Offenbach, Guy Haines, Liz Callaway
VCR: the usual smut

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LA JOLIE FEMME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BELATED BIRTHDAY WISHES TO DR SAM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Friday morning greetings! Richard and I left here a little after 4 yesterday for a 7pm program at Cincinnati Art Museum, thinking we had plenty of time to do several errands and have dinner on the way. Traffic was so bad that we only accomplished one errand - NOT dinner - and made it to the Machu Picchu lecture just in time. The program was quite interesting and very well-attended and our trip home was much smoother. I just don't want to make a habit of eating dinner at 10pm, though.
-
Belated happy birthday to DR Sam!
-
Happiest of birthdays to Julieanne Pogue!
-
Apologies to DR Jennifer for mistaking her for DR Jane when I responded to her post about Facebook yesterday.

Apologies to DR Jennifer for mistaking her for DR Jane when I responded to her post about Facebook yesterday.
Oh you don't have to apologize.
-
DR FJL, re: Ashton Kutcher being the replacement in 2 1/2 Men.
I don't think it was widely known. I had also read that Hugh Grant was offered the role but at the end things fell through. Then all of a sudden yesterday I read that Ashton was in.

And the word of the day is: MYSOPHOBIA!
What Carlo Ponti suffered from?

Good morning.

Happy Birthday to Sam!

Oy! Another schedule change on presentation time for this Appalachian piece on Friday May 27. I do not want to keep bugging folk about"CHANGE YOUR SCHEDULE AGAIN!" and I've got several producers coming to this.

Greetings from Toyland!

I watched a couple of good films from my library yesterday, neither of which I'd seen for many years.
MUSIC BOX w/Jessica Lange
MERCURY RISING w/Bruce Willis
Enjoyed them both.

Greetings from Memphis University Law School. This building used to be the Post Office until a couple years ago so it's really modern and has wireless for guests!
-
So i'm in class and on the internet. this would have made law school much more difficult, but is niec for a seminar
-
DR Jane - The closest we'll get to Machu Picchu is attending Middfest this fall. Peru is 2011's featured country and my friend Deborah Schultz has created an excellent grant-funded program on Peru's archaeological treasures. The program includes last night's lecture, the one we attended last month on UNESCO's World Heritage Program, and a fabulous line-up of speakers Sept. 30-Oct. 1 here in Middletown. They also launched a booklet of essays last night edited by one of my book group friends. I'll get another copy and send it to you and Keith.
HERE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5OFvvgdEgk) is Dr. Richard Burger, last night's lecturer, along with his wife Lucy Salazar. His lecture last night was about the artifacts dispute.

DR Jose, India Palace Restaurant and Cozy Corner BBQ Ribs this noon and Eat Well Sushi and BBQ Shop Restaurant Ribs tomorrow
-
DR Cillaliz - I just read an article about how texting and social media are the new "passing notes in class." ;)
-
This morning the mayor came in to welcome us and to thank us for coming. He made a big point of saying that Memphis is NOT underwater. He's a very eloquent man and his short talk was actually quite inspiring
-
As someone with an autistic nephew (and whose father--Betsy's brother--is an internationally recognized expert MD on the subject), may I just say MERCURY RISING is a steaming pile of crap (technical term). :)
In other breaking news, today marks the one year anniversary since we moved into the new house! We closed in February but didn't officially move until we were closer to the end of the school year.
-
DR Cillaliz - I just read an article about how texting and social media are the new "passing notes in class." ;)
I believe it. The class I'm in now is pretty basic and I know most of this stuff. I am taking notes too, though
-
I'm up and have been for a half-hour - I think that pastrami yesterday was rancid. I'm okay now, but it was iffy there for a minute.
-
Got my ticket to go back to the BBQ fest tonight. Now I have a tent to go to. Not sure what tent it is other than the number, but I have a name tag that will let me get in, so it will be fun. Glad they gave me my ticket early, I think I'll skip the judicial reception and take the shuttle out there after the last class
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And that's a good thing.
-
DR Cillaliz - I really like the sauces and pulled pork from the BBQ Shop. They also have a cute logo. ;)

Sounds like you are having a great time. Enjoy!

When I got here, our cleaning man was finishing up. Now I can find neither ruler that was on my desk! I know they're there. Somewhere, but every time he comes in to clean, I need a week to locate things.
-
I hate when they have law professors give us lectures....I do not need to know the historical background of asylum and what the Norwegian delegate said at a meeting in 1951 - Tell me what I need to prove and how I need to do it. This woman is really annoying and looks like she's barely old enough to be out of law school
-
I may be sneaking out of this one to be first in line for lunch.

what the Norwegian delegate said at a meeting in 1951
Husker du?

Breaking news from Variety:
Ashton Kutcher has officially joined the cast of Warner Bros.-produced CBS comedy "Two and a Half Men," as the show moves on from the Charlie Sheen era.
Production on the ninth season of the series -- the first without Sheen -- will begin in the summer, with plans to have the show ready for a fall re-launch.
"I can't wait to get to work with this ridiculously talented team, and I believe we can fill the stage with laughter that will echo in viewers' homes," Kutcher said. "I can't replace Charlie Sheen, but I'm going to work my ass off to entertain the hell out of people!"
Said showrunner Chuck Lorre: "We are so lucky to have someone as talented, joyful and just plain remarkable as Ashton joining our family. Added to that is the deep sigh of relief knowing that our family stays together. If I was any happier, it'd be illegal."
-
So.... is Kutcher going to be the 1/2 man's father? Like The New Darren?
-
DR Laura, I think you are an angel for "interfering" on behalf of Ruby.

I tell other women that Ruby is one of the ones who broke the way for ALL women to be what they want to be. And you'd never hear that from Ruby.
-
Happy Birthday, Julieanne Pogue!
-
Gosh! I was hoping they'd resurrect Sasha Mitchell's career for "Two and Half Men". He'd be very funny, I think.
-
So.... is Kutcher going to be the 1/2 man's father? Like The New Darren?
Maybe they'll report Charlie to be in a coma....and then when he wakes up, he'll have forgotten what he looked like and how he talked.

I may be sneaking out of this one to be first in line for lunch.
;D

So.... is Kutcher going to be the 1/2 man's father? Like The New Darren?
Wouldn't that be weird? The article doesn't actually say, I wondered the same thing.
-
Of course, I've maybe seen 7 or 8 minutes of the show over its many years on the air.
-
So.... is Kutcher going to be the 1/2 man's father? Like The New Darren?
lol sheen is the uncle.

That's right. I remember that now from the three minutes I watched the show. When the one-half man was a little boy.

I just got off the phone with the surgeon's office & was reassured all the squishy, clicking, & other disturbing sensations i'm experiencing are normal. What a relief! I feared the pin he put in was moving around.

I am a very proud aunt today. Our niece Lauren (whose father died almost 2 years ago) just completed her second-to-last semester of college and earned a 3.84 GPA - her highest ever.
And

DR Jane - that's a relief! Squishes, clicks, and other disturbing sensations are good reasons to call the doctor's office!

I thought so-lol. i tried finding info on line & couldn't. all i found were stories that scared me & decided to stop reading. ;D none of them mentioned what i'm feeling.
-
That would freak me out, too, Jane.
-
So.... is Kutcher going to be the 1/2 man's father? Like The New Darren?
I don't know, I don't particularly care. In the few times I watched the show, I was amazed that something so dependent upon sexually over-active men and erection jokes could be so tasteless, not funny, and continue to run.
-
Thanks, DRs Laura and Jane. Those 2 nieces (along with 2 more nieces and 2 nephews) bring me a lot of joy.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to La Jolie Femme, aka Julieanne Pogue!! ;D

And (again) Happy Birthday to DR Sam!! ;D

we watched in the beginning but there was never any growth to the characters & the "jokes" stayed the same. over the years we have caught, accidentally, bits & pieces all of which were the same. the older the guys, including the kid got, it just seemed more pathetic.

DITTO! and a very nice house it is, in a very nice neighborhood for walking!!!
-
All CDs and, happily, books, are shipped. Whew! The helper will be shlepping everything to the post office in an hour or so.
-
Oy, do I have a lot of writing to get done. I must try to post reviews of THE HUSTLER, TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH (with a most brilliant commentary featuring Mr. Nick Redman) and JOURNEY TO MECCA (an astoundingly brilliant NatGeo IMAX feature) today. That is a LOT of words, dear readers, not to mention screencaps.
-
And yet, here I am, reading your posts.
-
When JR and I were able to get the Lois Kibbee papers on Frances from the University of Washington, one of the things that made me LOL was Lois bragging to Frances and Jean Ratcliffe that she was able to "pound out" 1,000 words a day on Frances' ostensible autobiography. I pound out 1,000 words before I finish my first cup of coffee in the morning. :)
Maybe if Lois had been able to "pound out" 2,000 words a day we wouldn't have had the Scientology revisionism, let alone Jean Ratcliffe's self-aggrandizing work.
-
I see another trip to Toyland in my future: I left everything I meant to bring home with me there. Damnation!
-
spend time enjoying the piano since you have to return :)

Good Afternoon!
It's been a nice, if a bit overcast day, here in NYC.
...And that's all for this post.

I did like how Ashton Kutcher - a.k.a. @aplusk - announced his new gig via Twitter yesterday afternoon:
"What is the square root of 6.25?"
-Or maybe his publicist came up with that? ::)

Congrats to DR Ginny's DN Lauren!

Did Danise's Facebook account get hacked, mayhaps? Or did she visit an app that automatically sent out a "message" to everyone?
-
Yes, she got hacked.
-
Or something.
-
Good Evening!
And as Friday the 13th winds down here on the East Coast...
Did anyone have any bad luck today?
-
Just Danise.
-
Great photo, Cillaliz.
-
Too exhausted for anything else. Night, all.

Earlier tonight, I went to a concert by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. It was part of their "Spring for Music" series. It was a good concert, with some very interesting programming.
You can read about the concert as well as listen to it HERE (http://www.npr.org/2011/05/14/136255805/the-st-paul-chamber-orchestra-at-carnegie-hall).
-
And since I seem to be battling a case of the drowsies right now, well...
Goodnight.
-
Back from a fun dinner at Islands, where I had my usual bacon cheeseburger which, instead of being called the Big Wave with bacon and cheese, is now called the Malibu. I had fries, as well. Then we went to the thirteen-year-old's apartment - previous to dinner I'd figured out a first pass at a show sequence, so we sang through it in that order and I'll be hornswoggled if the damn thing didn't just work. And boy is it a fun and VERY diverse show. Patter still to come obviously, but that gets much easier when the structure of the show has been set. Her grandma was visiting from Canada, and she had a good time listening. Boswell hasn't finished writing out the charts for the songs that we did arrangements for, but we should have those soon. Melody had made yummilicious brownies of which we all partook. And then she put in some glow in the dark vampire fangs - that was pretty funny, actually.
-
Yes, she got hacked.
Yikes!
-
Good Evening!
And as Friday the 13th winds down here on the East Coast...
Did anyone have any bad luck today?
Actually, yesterday my car started making a fluttering noise. When I drove home last night, it was pretty loud, but otherwise ran well. None of the dashboard lights lit up. I checked my oil when I got home (I hadn't had it changed in quite a while ::)) and it was very, very low. I decided that I should get the oil changed in the morning, but as I was driving I figured that the noise couldn't be related to low oil, so I stopped at a local automotive place. They were able to look at my car right away and it turns out that a belt had split. They had to get a belt from another store, but they had it all fixed in about an hour. So, I actually had some good luck today. :)
-
Yesterday, I also (finally) made an appointment to have my car serviced at the dealer on Tuesday. Even though my car isn't under warrenty any more, I still take it to the dealer because they've done all the work and know what needs to be done. I get it serviced once a year, after I get my income tax refund.
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
Topic of the Day:
On my DVR: two episodes of "Law & Order: Los Angeles." It's too bad that they fired Skeet Ulrich, but I really like this show.
-
After that, I need to start watching "Fringe." I have the last six, count 'em SIX episodes recorded and to watch.
-
Nice when the birthday folks don't show up to acknowledge their good wishes.
-
I gotta tell you.
-
That's what being in "love" or being obsessed with Facebook does. Frankly, I like it here -
